Just caught the pilot. Rob Thomas' new sitcom for Starz, is full of Veronica Mars alumni, and very funny. Will most certainly watch again.

FUNNIEST ONE LINER : I don't want you serving them two jiggers!"

NO. The line does not mean what you think - but that's part of the fun. And when you finally do see it in context, one word of advice. DO NOT be in the process of drinking anything. I almost choked to death on a Vanilla Coke when they said this. The line is pure comic gold, in an already pretty funny episode. If we can expect more of this throughout the rest of the series, then sign me up.

Re: Party Down

Watched the pilot.  It was ok, quite amusing, but definitely not laugh out loud funny yet.  I'll watch a few more episodes though, see if it finds its comedy feet a little more.

Re: Party Down

Yeah, it wasn't really funny. It was somewhat funny. I also will give it some more eps untill I decide.

...where did I put that rat's ass I could give?

Daemons are benevolent or benign nature spirits, beings of the same nature as both mortals and gods, similar to ghosts, chthonic heroes, spirit guides, forces of nature or the gods themselves.

Re: Party Down

wait, they still make vanilla coke?
I haven't seen that stuff in years!

Re: Party Down

I used to love Vanilla Coke, but they stopped selling it in the UK.  It was a very sad day in the life of Karenbear.  sad

And I really shouldn't talk about myself in the third person.  It's kinda creepy...

Re: Party Down

Ya, Vanilla Coke was awesome... I miss it... they don't sell it anymore in Canada either...
I think the next poll should be about how awesome Vanilla Coke was...!

Re: Party Down

Did not find this show amusing at all... sorry..

Re: Party Down

In Germany you still find Vanilla Coke in some - not all - places. I love it - keeps you awake while watching your daily eps big_smile

We still have vanilla coke here in Canada, in warehouse stores and such, but I don't like it.

Where? I haven't seen any in at least 4-5 years... at least in like Quebec/Ontario regions...

Re: Party Down

Vanilla Coke?

I'd kill for a Peanut Butter Snicker.

Re: Party Down

I really wanted to like this show, but it was just boring.  I'll give it another chance though... maybe.

The cameo from Enrico Colantoni was the only highlight.

Re: Party Down

low blow...

I'm suprised you had time to make that post in between episodes of Corner Gas...

Re: Party Down

Wow, I never new Canada had an east/west divide thing going on.  wink

Re: Party Down

I don't actually think there is... it actually took me a pretty long time to come up with any sort of comeback, and all I could come up with was a Corner Gas joke...

The only real divide I can think of here in Canada is between cities like Montreal and Toronto, mainly due to Hockey team rivalries...

Re: Party Down

My mom says there's a lot of french people in Canada. :>

Re: Party Down

Ah paisley, I knew I could rely on you for a long rambling reply to a mostly jokey couple of posts.  big_smile

But on the other hand, that was actually quite informative.  Thank you.

When Robin from How I Met Your Mother makes fun of Canadians, she's making fun of Ontario and Quebec, not Canada really, because all the jokes are Ontario - Quebec specific, and don't apply to the rest of us.

Sorry to tell you, but she is actually portraying a Vancouver based character (i.e. Western Canada).

I'm from Quebec myself, so I'm a bit suprised by some of those comments. Not offended in any way, I actually love joking around about these kind of things. Just not sure why you think it is specifically like Quebec/Ontario that Canadian jokes are usually focused on... I'm no expert on Canadian culture or anything, but I'm kinda under the impression that Western Canadians tend to have the strongest/funniest accents. Obviously it would make sense that people from the East make fun of people from the West and vise-versa.. so maybe I am a bit biased... but even on tv shows and stuff it is usually Western Canada that is being poked fun at, or like Newfoundland, or the french demographic from Quebec. So ya, not sure where the idea of most Canadian stereotypes being focused on Quebec/Ontario comes from...

Re: Party Down

You can't just say Robin is portraying Quebec/Ontario stereotypes simply because it suits your argument... Although at the very least, I think we can both agree she is hilarious on the show.

Also, I don't think it is a question of anyone being in bubble or anything like that. If anything, Ontario/Quebec are the two most cultural and diverse provinces in Canada, with the most going on in both of them. Maybe that is why you think the majority of Canadian stereotypes are focused on these regions, due to our visibility compared to most Western regions. The whole about/aboot thing is also not Quebec or Ontario. If anything it is maybe people from Newfoundland region who talk like that...  but 100% not Quebec, and although I'm not from Ontario, I've been there enough and have never heard anyone talk the way you describe.

As funny as all the stuff your saying is, you should probably be careful about not mixing up actual facts and your own personal ideas. I think your trying too hard to focus all these Canadian stereotypes on a specific region, when the truth is, no one knows enough about Canada to identify stereotypes from one particular region. I would say most, if not all, Canadian stereotypes are just a big mixture of random funny things from all over Canada.

Re: Party Down

I was flying from Calgary to Victoria with a Canadian Airline and the stewardess just made the security announcement in English - then she paused and asked if French speaking pessengers were on board. Nobody raised their hand so she said she could skip the French part she would normaly do.

That was the point where I realized even Canadians think strongly of a east and west coast thing big_smile

Re: Party Down

Yup, I don't think anyone is all too fond of all this force fed french... It can be pretty bad here in Quebec, especially the english speaking areas, with all these crazy french by-laws imposed on english speaking people...

Re: Party Down

Ya I thought you'd be happy that we actually agree on something!

I'm gonna stay far away from the whole Western stereotype because I don't really have a good idea of one aside from what I see on Corner Gas big_smile
The truth is I haven't been to the West so I got nothing...

Re: Party Down

It's fun for saturday mornings... Has some good humour but also few of annoying characters...

Re: Party Down

I'm from Shediac, New Brunswick.  We're a little busy with the Acadian-English hatred to care about the rest  of the country.  Also letting First Nation children die in hospital hallways.  I've never been farther east in Canada than New Brunswick, so I don't know anything about that, but in New Brunswick the English and the French hate each other like blacks and whites in the Southern US.  It doesn't help that all the cops are from Quebec.

Zoë:   Preacher, don't the Bible have some pretty specific things to say about killin'?
Book: Quite specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.

I mean that the writers have created few of the characters so annoying that if the Star Trek holodeck was real I would get them in there and kick their virtual asses...
