As Karen is MIA this week, I decided take charge of this and settle a dispute I have with arashi once and for all.
So, which one do you think is the better show?

I'm for the shield, he's for the other one. Needless to say neither has watched the other one's show when this argument started. Clearly, I was right tho.

A) It's alarming how many people have not watched any of these great shows. Yes, they both used to be on pay TV, but let's be honest here - most of us using this site download our TV shows anyway, so what's the hold up? Everybody is bitching about "nothing good being on TV" and yet they haven't seen these shows? WTF?
B) I watched both and The Shield is clearly better. The Wire is great, but it is almost a documentary, slow moving and carefully crafting it's universe and story. While there is nothing wrong with that, The Shield wins by being simply more enjoyable. Furthermore, you get Vic, one of the most interesting anti-heroes since Riddick - the characters in The Wire, while great, are all "normal" - yes, Omar is the bomb, but he is just a very smart criminal. And I am not even talking about The Shield's phenomenal final season that had me biting my nails and screaming on the top of my lungs through the last 3 episodes.

the shield is good tv, the wire is one of the best pieces of entertainment of the 2000s. It's doing things and going places nothing has before it. There is no argument here.

Both GREAT shows and my sympathies go out to those who've watched neither but if my arm was being twisted (really hard) I'd have to say the Wire was the slightly better show.

Have to go with The Wire although The Shield is great too. It kinda hurts even to pick one I have two words to those who haven't watched any of the shows, Watch them !

Neither one was my usual taste but I tried both. Only made it through a season and a half of the shield before deciding it just wasn't worth the time. The Wire on the other hand grabbed my interest and after finishing all seasons I could have watched more.

Two of my favourite shows here and I can't believe how few people have seen them.
I voted for the wire because it was a much more complete show, it put you into the lives of everybody on it, not just the 2 main characters. The shield, while still good, was a little two dimensional after the first couple seasons.

Looks like more people have watched the shield, but of the people who's seen both shows, they prefer the wire...
