Topic: Movie remakes?
With the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still due out at the cinema this week in the UK, it got me thinking about movie remakes in general. I'm usually not in favour, especially when the original is a classic, but I'll reserve judgment until I see it. Your thoughts?

Re: Movie remakes?
I actually don't like old movies... in general. However there are some classics but I'm not sure I'd like them if I hadn't seen the movie a long time ago and fell in love with it then. Ergo Star wars and Back to the Future... A remake there would be terrible.... But a remake of movies like Harry Potter would be nice.. I hate those movies, you could have done so much with the books, but no, we have to make movies for the youngest of children... THEY ALREADY HAVE SPONGE BOB! THEY DON'T NEED MORE! Edit: I have no idea where that came from... probably just tired..

Re: Movie remakes?
I agree that there are those few films that you just shouldn't remake, and definatly those films you shouldnt make a sequal to. but some films could be polished up a bit. i dont get the new friday the 13th film coming out, was it because they finally got to part 100 and thought they might aswell start it again. i do like alot of old films, but then even some of them are remakes, like 'john carpenter's: the thing' that was made in the 80s but its still a remake, but i rather that one to the original, but they could never make a sequal or remake to it, the cliffhanger ending was just fantastic.

Re: Movie remakes?
The HULK remake (only about 3 years after the original) was waaay better than the original.

Re: Movie remakes?
I like the King Kong and Planet of The Apes remakes better than the originals. And one that I like the most is remake of Star Wars Episode IV New Hope by a gentleman that goes by the name Adywan. (Han shoots first!) If a movie is made with good enough visual effects and the storyline is good, it won't need a remake. For example, I don't want to see a remake of The Terminator. But maybe if someone would make a remake of The Creature from the Black Lagoon, I'd go and see it.

Maybe not but... But the remake is a fan edition thus perhaps not qualifying to be called a remake.

Re: Movie remakes?
would you count the aliens vs predator films as remakes, cus i kinda do as its a remake of the franchise and a desecration of them. they were terrible and yet they are making a 3rd. all the kids i talk to like the films but they have never seen a single alien or predator film, and granted if they did they probs wudnt like em. granted i was born when the 2nd alien film came out but i did get into them at a young age and loved them, well the 1st and 2nd one anyway of the alien films and the original predator film.

Re: Movie remakes?
It would be nice to see a remake of the old Superman movies... there are so much wrong with those movies, even more than the horrible special effects.. I understand the whole Superman thing, I mean of course he can fly, and he's strong and nearly indestructible... But they break so many other rules of physics in the movies. He catches a falling Lois 2 feet about the ground. She should be split into pieces (yes tBBT). When Superman and Lois flies, Superman only holds her hand with his hand, and they both fly.. how could she possible have the strength for that?

Re: Movie remakes?
I've thought and thought and thought until my head hurts and the only film I can think of where the re-make was better than the original; John Carpenters The Thing and as a general rule sequels should be kept to one.

The poll is movie remakes NOT movie sequals so the second Bill & Ted doesn't qualify.
