That 70's all the way! smile

I felt the same thing about 70's and Rome - just vice versa big_smile

Maybe these shows a mutually exclusive. Or is there a fan of both shows who can't decide which of those two shows is more awesome? big_smile

hehehe no its that that 70's show ... it made me laugh like crazy person... but i have 2 say the last season was not that great.... tongue

Re: Best period TV show?

I liked both...but only watched that 70s show when I caught it on tv...it wasn't good enough to follow for every episode.
Rome on the other hand, had Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo...two of the most awesome characters ever to grace a tv screen...dynamic characters that actually changed with time...beautiful sets....great writing, filming and directing....the whole cast was dynamite. Max Pirkis as Octavian too...he was phenomenal!

That 70s show could've been set in any other period between 1960 and 1999 and it wouldn't have lost or gained anything.
Liking that 70s show more than Rome is like liking the Sunday Funnies more than a good documentary.
It's a matter of substance vs. no-brained-escapist-ha-ha.

I can definitely understand that some people enjoy stand up comedy more than visiting the Louvre....but those people shouldn't have a say in what a good museum is. They'll just pick the museum of the history of stand up comedy! People that appreciate museums should have a say concerning the best museums!
If you don't appreciate period based television for the fact that it's period based television, you're undermining people who are genuinely discerning!

I gotta go with Paisley on this one....Rome Rome Rome.

Why does there have to be a difference.  I mean, how the hell do you define "best" anyway.  Most entertaining?  Most representative of the time?  Greatest writing?  Greatest acting?  There are so many perfectly legitimate ways to define this, and everyone who votes will have a different viewpoint, and therefore vote differently.

I for one went for my favourite show on that list, which was Blackadder.  Perhaps not known for it's accurate attention to historical detail, but a funny, brilliant entertaining show set in times past.  smile

Ok, seems reasonable.

And about topic. Like paisley1 said, that people will choose there favorite show. That's with every poll, at least when poll isn't worst something...  And about not seeing all the shows from list, that's the reason i haven't answered this poll. And what i have seen from the list(Have seen only: Blackadder, Merlin, Robin Hood, Rome, That 70s Show, Xena), there just not that best Period show, including Rome. But that's just mine little opinion.

Ee.. I haven't noticed other(discuss) option until now. big_smile So my choose will be this and discussion about that was already here:

Like I said in my previous post, period pieces are best judged and analyzed by their attempt to authenticate the period in which they are depicting, ie, art and set decoration along with costume and hair styling.  You are proof of my argument above, that they might as well have said, favorite show, not best period piece.  Favorite is far too subjective, but the term best, which is used, at least allows for some qualitative results, which unfortunately, we're not seeing at all.

Best judged like that by you. The rest of us however, are freeminded individuals (not a Herd) and can choose to judge shows as we please. I do not like being dictated to by the likes of you.

Re: Best period TV show?

I've only seen these shows from the list
Blackadder, M*A*S*H, Quantum Leap, Wonder Years, Happy Days

As far as period shows go this older Australian production.
The Sullivans told the story of a lower middle class Catholic family during World War 2.
TV series 1976-1983

Re: Best period TV show?

first of all ... best period tv show does ask for the best tv show thats basic theme is set in the past. and who likes what why ... is not exactly a matter of debate but of taste. I didnt watch rome cause welll ... I pick jerking off to donna in that 70s show over jerking off to fuckin Claudius Whateverdafuckus in Rome (but whatever you prefer dude) So when I pick that 70s show ... I have my reasons.

Stop judging man ... we all get it - youre fuckin sophisticated (I mean, comes with the territory of co-running a torrent site, youre the ELITE) and the book was better than the movie.

Its cool ... I dont judge, but dont you dare to judge us.

Oh yea and ... what DA FUCK does "disagree with a poll" mean? You cant disagree with a poll result man ... that makes no sense. you know who dont agree with polls a lot? Dictators. Are you a dictator? And why on earth do you hate babys?

Now ... take this input, find your inner self by banning some guys from tvtorrents.dick for having a low fuckin ratio and come back to me and the rest of the HERD with an official apology. You dont have to mean it.

see what you made me do again ... you made me angry and I got rude and now I feel bad for being rude.

Thanks man ...

Dictating?  Hahaha, that's pretty funny.  The results are dictated by the herd (majority), not me.  Instead of taking everything I say as an insult to demean and belittle people who think other than me, maybe you should rise to the challenge and prove why That 70's Show was the best attempt to authenticate it's time period over the other shows, and actually create a new and interesting dialogue, rather than getting upset at my critique of the people on this site and their misguided opinion.

yeah but you keep on repeating your self with your opinion about Rome... we get it you like it...   but i don't care about it... never did never will the poll is about my opinion and not yours cos its a freaking poll

Why?

And while I didn't choose That 70s Show myself, I can guarantee you that they authenticated their period of choice a hell of a lot better than Rome did.  By the sheer about of reference material available to them to authenticate against.  I mean, did all the actors in Rome speak in Latin?  Did they get someone who was there at the time as an adviser on the show?

Re: Best period TV show?

Are you dense?  It's not the word chick that I mind, it's the fact that you seem to think only a chick could be responsible for some off the wall ranting.

Re: Best period TV show?

Well I never thought I see the day, possibly someone around here I find more personally offensive than Ben.  Huh.

And you know, it's not the fact that I find you offensive that bothers me.  It's more that you can't seem to understand why you're being so offensive.  But that's fine, maybe you're just not capable of thinking on those kind of levels.

And at this point I agree with madboobs - bored now!

Re: Best period TV show?

And can someone PLEASE get on my back for jerking off to Donna?!?

Gees .. whats happening here.

Re: Best period TV show?

Love this thread.

And paisley1 - going against the popular opinion in a forum, what did you expect? smile

I understand the reasons behind it and your arguments, but this is not something that can be won on arguments. People like different stuff. People would pick different stuff as "best". People interpret poll questions differently. And it's ok.

Also, That 70's show is sooo much better than Rome ... smile
(see, that's how an argument is won)
