Topic: Battle of the spinoffs
Back to TV for the current poll. Over the years TV executives have ruined many a good show by trying to extend the premise into a spinoff, but occasionally they have got it right. I've picked a few that I know of from recent years - which show will win as being worthwhile in its own regard rather than just being a crappy money making idea. Or do you feel that no spinoff is worth it no matter what. Vote now.

I don't think so, but I've never really watched JAG so I couldn't be sure.

KB - I use to watch JAG a bit years back but I reckon NCIS is the better of the two.

Re: Battle of the spinoffs
Oh I just had a thought - I should have included one of the Law & Order spinoffs - there are like a dozen of them or something. Ah well, I'm not changing it now.

As I'm so young, I am blissfully unaware of this, but what did Frasier come from?

Re: Battle of the spinoffs
Hard choice between Atlantis, NCIS and Angel but being a true Sci-Fi fan I went for Atlantis. P.S, Good Poll.

Re: Battle of the spinoffs
I had to go with Atlantis. Didn’t like it at first but after SG-1 finished I had an Atlantis marathon to see what I’d missed. Got to liking it quite a lot by the time I was current. I’m surprised NCIS isn’t doing better in the poll. I also didn’t know until recently it was spun from JAG. Never liked JAG much but NCIS seems good for a non Sci-Fi kind of show. Good character development. Much better than the average formula show like any of the CSI bunch.

Re: Battle of the spinoffs
Loved Angel (mainly because of spike! and Cordelia) Hate Atlantis (hated SG-1 as well) I just never related to it although I love Sci-Fi Didn't like Frasier, though Cheers! (sometime I hear the theme in my head) Loved JAG (mainly because John M. Jackson) - Hate the characters of NCIS (mainly because of this Abby character) About the rest...CSI: Miami?? No! CSI? yes ma'm ...my two cents!
...Its all been said before!

Re: Battle of the spinoffs
yeah, i'm not sure that the CSIs qualify for 'spin off' status... they more than qualify for 'carbon copy' status though...

Re: Battle of the spinoffs
The extra CSIs can't be classed as carbon copies as that implies that CSI is as bad as them. Its almost like CSI was too technical for americans to understand, so they had to dumb it down with Miami, which is annoyingly obvious in the way it explains things.

Re: Battle of the spinoffs
NCIS is not a spin-off. It's a completely new show from the creator of JAG. .. But were is Private Practice?

Re: Battle of the spinoffs
NCIS is a spin off - it is part of the same universe as JAG, and some of the characters in NCIS were introduced first on JAG for a couple of episodes.

Re: Battle of the spinoffs
Hmm.. I missed that (since i don't watch JAG) I found a mentioning of it as a spin off though, it's on Wikipedia where they also describe the JAG episode you're talking about. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JAG#NCIS_spin-off
