I swear the first episode has counted down to zero at least twice now. When will the second episode air?

Re: New Amsterdam

I just found out that a Swedish dude wrote that episode... or directed or something tongue

Re: New Amsterdam

Just watched the first one, it looks OK, I might see how the next few go.

Lasse Hallstroem directed it, yes. I have yet to watch it though since it seems to be a bit different from the pre-air that leaked a while ago.

I also want to know that... do I have to watch the pilot too before I watch the second ep?

Re: New Amsterdam

I've seen both but I also tend to forget stuff easily, especially when it comes to TV shows. But anyway, I think they changed some things with the female doctor who tried to save him, you know "The One". And I'm not sure but I think there was something different involving Omar as well. I'msorry for not being more helpful, but I really can't remember a lot from the pre-air.

Re: New Amsterdam

Thanks Locke.. I just watched the pilot and didn't notice any ground breaking changes... however it was a while ago sense I saw the pre-air... So I'm not to sure either...

Re: New Amsterdam

Just read a story on the changes.

http://tv.msn.com/news/article.aspx?new … p;GT1=7703

The biggest modification: Originally, John Amsterdam was bitter and depressed about his immortality.

He happens to be a recovering alcoholic. He has been sober 15,495 days, he declares at an AA meeting. But then he got overwrought after having possibly crossed paths with The One while on a crowded subway platform. He felt compelled to have a drink.

This crucial scene took place at the bar owned by Omar (Stephen McKinley-Henderson), Amsterdam's loyal confidant.

"If I can find her, time will have value," he told Omar, insisting that's "a good thing." Yet he seemed pretty desperate while saying so.

"He's waited 400 years for this moment and he finally has it, and then he decides to lose his sobriety over it? That was confusing to the viewer," says Manson.

In the bar scene as re-shot, Amsterdam looks happy instead.

"This is like nothing I've ever felt," he tells Omar. Somewhere near him on that subway platform, "she was there," he says. "I know she exists!"

So do viewers, who saw his apparent soul mate: a lovely young woman named Dr. Sara Dillane (Alexie Gilmore).

This time, John feels no need for a bender.

Coster-Waldau says playing a cheerier Amsterdam "was a big change for me. I had to redo my analysis of the character" when reshooting the scenes last summer. "But it made sense: He should be a character of hope, not disillusionment."

Besides brightening the hero's mood overall, other changes were made for the New "New Amsterdam." John's partner, Eva Marquez (Zuleikha Robinson), is introduced much earlier in the revised episode. And right away Amsterdam identifies himself to the audience as a cop, whereas, in the initial version, he didn't spell out his profession for almost five minutes, while, instead, the action dwelled on him in his 17th-century persona.

"We didn't want the viewer to wonder for too long who this guy is," says Manson.

Re: New Amsterdam

Thanks for the quote!

Re: New Amsterdam

my hunch was good, I really like the show. Don't know if it'll survive though. Doesn't seem terribly mainstream.

Re: New Amsterdam

Good news and bad news.
Good news; I like it.
Bad news; I like it so it will probably get cancelled quite soon.

I don't know, the whole thing is just very tastefully done. These kinds of shows just die on me... like all the time smile

Re: New Amsterdam

This thread has been totally on topic so far...what's going on?

Re: New Amsterdam

I dunno.
New Amsterdam. Each episode is better than the last. The Pilot was kind of "blah", but after watching the third episode, I'm really into this now.

So of course it's getting canned.

my thoughts exactly... i wasn't too overjoyed at the changes in character direction made betwix the pre-air and the "air", but damn... now methinks that may have been a stroke of genius... much enjoying this one big_smile

[it kinda makes me think of Moonlight... purely in the fact that the 'episode of the week' part of the story is pretty sucky, but the bigger mythology is much fun and goodness]

Re: New Amsterdam

I havent quite made up my mind about this show yet. Will have to give it a few more episodes. Still, I wasnt exactly left 'woow' after the first three.

I really think they're picking up. The school one was pretty bad, but the next one with the solider was really better. Dunno, Moonlight really rubbed me the wrong way. And this one I really, really like.
