Topic: BSG Season 4 - Good News, Bad News and a Lot of Other Cool Stuff
Season 4 - Some good news, some interesting news and some bad news . . .
First, the bad news.
In space, no one can hear you scream, "Frak! They aren't airing the new season of Battlestar Galactica until April 2008!?!?"
Unfortunately, we're stuck here on Earth, which means the cacophony coming from fans of Battlestar is quite audible.
Late last week, executive producer Ronald D. Moore, while discussing his upcoming directorial debut (more on that in a bit), told the Los Angeles Times that the highly anticipated final season of Battlestar won't premiere until April 2008. The finale of season three aired in March 2007, meaning that more than a year will have passed between seasons when Battlestar is up and running again.
Moore did not mention whether the final season will be split up into two halves, with the second ending in 2009 as previously reported.
In September, members of the cast of the show were quoted as saying season four would begin in February, but reps from Sci Fi were unable to confirm the date, saying only that it would premiere in 2008.
Next up, the interesting news.
In other news, Moore, who is the creative driving force behind the show, will make his directorial debut in an episode of the upcoming season. "For all I know, I'll hate directing, but right now I'm hungry for it," said the Emmy-nominated writer.
And finally, the good news.
Until next April, Battlestar fans have the two-hour telefilm Razor to look forward to. Razor will air on Sci Fi on November 24, but Sci Fi is partnering up with Microsoft to bring the movie to theaters for a special screening. Theaters in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, Dallas, and Seattle will hold preview events on November 12. Admission is free, but seating is very limited. For theater and seating information, head to the event's official Web site.
An unrated and extended cut of Razor will also be available on DVD on December 4. The season-three Battlestar Galactica DVD still has not yet been dated.

Those of you lucky enough to live in a city where you can catch BSG: Razor on the big screen, need to go to this site to register in advance, and you can thank Microsoft for the FREE tickets as they are co-sponsoring the event as part of a cross-promotion for Zune and the simply amazing Mass Effect due out next month on Xbox 360.
I, unfortunately, like a complete dumbass, moved to the little city and am no longer living in the big city, so I am totally frakked and will miss out on the big screen, BSG goodness. So please, if you live in or near one of the cities on the list (they are actually showing in more cities than just the ones on the list, for example the SF showing is not only in SF, but also in San Jose, San Mateo, Mountain View, San Rafael and Walnut Creek), by all means go and enjoy in my stead. And don't ever say I never gave you anything.
Oh and one final tidbit. I know no one in their right mind is watching Flash Gordon (it's gotta be the worst piece of crap ever mislabeled science fiction). But Sci-Fi in a sad attempt to bolster viewers for a show that is deader than Painkiller Jane, are broadcasting a mini-episode of BSG called Takeover, broken into seven parts during episodes of Trash Gordon. I won't spoil the contents of Takeover if you are not yet aware of what it is about, but it is supposed to set up the story for Razor, the BSG tele-film that will broadcast on November 24. I will say this however. From what I have seen so far, it is better than the webisodes they did leading into season three, and it is something that I think fans of BSG, both neo and classical, are probably going to want to see. All that said, Sci-Fi has been kind enough to the fans to make it so you do not have to wade your way through an entire episode of Trash Gordon to see Takeover. If you want to see Takeover, then it is only one mouse click away. Enjoy.
