It does look like it could be a promising second story arc... but if nothing here is directly connected to the first arc, that would be disappointing.

▼Spoiler

I really didn't like Stewart in this episode. Came across very unlikeable.
He said to Gardener to stay and pay respect, to only seconds later answer his phone during a funeral?

Carol Ferris...that was barely anything - why not involve her more? At least a conversation between her and Kerry or something.

Also blackmail girl...maybe there is something more to her? Got the impression it's not about the money.

Deserved more runtime:
Abbys | Dead Like Me | Devs | Firefly | Gangsta. | Jack of all Trades | Kevin (probably) saves the World | Lodge 49 | Mrs. Davis | NYC 22 | Powerless | Roadkill | Special Unit 2 | Stumptown | Surface | The Brave | The Crazy Ones | The Finder | The Middleman | Truth Seekers | Two Weeks to Live | Whiskey Cavalier

P.S. In 2026 is just one meaning for woke and all sides, left and right and all other flavors long ago agree on the definition.

That. That is exactly "Why?" - you say there is only one definition for woke and everyone else is going to chime again...then the entire discussion starts anew... like it has in every show thread this issue has been brought up.

Damn it...I am doing it as well...forget what I wrote. I won't try to interfere in your ouroboros-ed like discussion anymore.

P.S. All good smile

I respect your opinion that all conversations about 'wokeness' should be in one thread. However, inevitably, there seems to be a certain subset of people that will cry repeatedly about any 'wokeness' that appears in a show. I believe it's appropriate to address those comments within the thread when it pertains to the show. In this thread someone asked what they meant about being woke, and I provided the best explanation I could for the contextual meaning. Sorry if it annoyed you, frankly it annoys me too, mostly because I recognize it's use as the carefully coded racism it is, and am annoyed it's infected this site as extensively as it has.

Given the show's DC origins, with shows like The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, and Smallville, this is certainly one of the better shows they've done.

But it's still a DC show. My expectations couldn't be lower, and so far the show is pretty enjoyable if I disengage my brain and forget the source material as best I can.

Why for the love of god did I assume this was done? I apologize. Still a good episode. Although it drove me nuts. All that messing around while you had very little time? I almost screamed at the TV.

Thank you lighton for pointing out the error of my ways. smile

Re: Lanterns [Crime, DC Studios]

I'm enjoying this series except for the seasonal episodic style. Not my favorite. Star Trek the original series was better than most of the following spin-offs because there was a new story every week that began and ended that particular episode. This Lantern has a lot of talking, there is a hook and then you have to wait 6 days to hear a lot more talking until the next hook...6 more days, and on and on. So, the last episode we are likely to find out how Jon Steward becomes the Green Lantern, and how it happens without a ring. I just wonder if the next season, (if there will be one), Hal is always there, because not many people are aware that American film making has a very old secret rule. If there is a leading Black actor in a film, there must also be at least one White character in the film.

Re: Lanterns [Crime, DC Studios]

I mean how obvious is it to anyone else is it at this point that the big reveal is going to be:

▼Spoiler

the kid that was the 'grandkid' of the manhunter is actually her child. It has to be. The sheriff isn't actually the mother, she's raising him hiding him in plain sight. The kid is totally a manhunter. Give it 10 to 1 odds her husband's mind was altered or he's in on it too. I suspected it when the alien suicide bomber asked how many kids they had, the manhunter must have also been trying to interbreed with them too. I knew it the second the sheriff said the obvioius manhunter child wanted to be president of the united states. The kids working crowds on this episode, and it's just obvious. The sheriff knows and was keeping Hal close when he came back to town to see if he was ever onto the kid, and killed him when he figured it out.

Also, I really hope they explain how in the heck Hal managed to spring Sinestro when he had no ring. That's impressive.

Re: Lanterns [Crime, DC Studios]

This episode was awesome !

Thinking why the heck didn't they start with this. Especially with the end of Episode 1.

They could've gone 01 + 06 + 07 as major plot story and inbetween tell the past that caused all of the damage and pain with flashbacks (only what's important to connect the two story lines).

I am not the biggest fan of flashbacks, but in this case it would've made for much better storytelling and character development.

And now we are at the perfect point to continue where 05 left off.

Maybe that is also something the fanedits reddit @SgtSaint mentioned could do smile

Re: Lanterns [Crime, DC Studios]

hmmm... i wonder is this where Sinestro creates "HIS" ring? and corps?

also, would be nice to show a cameo of Phil Lamar the voice of Jon Stewart from justice league animated. like... he is in his apartment, trying to find the voice, for the show he is auditioning for, and the real Jon Stewart comes crashing through a wall or something, they talk, Phil hears his voice and copies it. i know it takes "money" to put something like that together, but come on it's worth it. DC usually do things like that. eg: Annette o'toole, Lana Lang in superman movie then she was martha kent in smallville. John Wesley Shipp who was the flash in the 90's then as jay garrick later in the flash 2014. they did it before why stop now LoL

Re: Lanterns [Crime, DC Studios]

good show over all. 7/10
the story was obvious and most everything was telegraphed long in advance.
( they really were not subtle in the story telling, and still had pointless filler )
they got a cheaper green lantern for follow up shows over mr big bucks.

but that guy must have more mental issues then most slave trafficking  victims.
what his parents did to him was right up there with brainwashing and abuse of the highest levels.
real mk-ultra levels of evil.

the feel good ending was just a cop-out for a ending.

▼Spoiler

seriously that would be like a 15 year victim of wife beating going back to hubby
it is all kinds of screwed up that he went back home to the his parents and 2 brothers
and they portrayed it like the prefect family getting back together WTF
having his wife/lover be the killer of hal in a mistake that was just reflex????
mass murder machine who is known for twisting peoples feelings "convinces" everyone he is
not a bad guy and just wants to live his life and a football star and more???

DC still is not committing to the stories they seem to want to tell.

i did approve of some of the morals the story was trying to tell
but im feeling they left it as more
"do evil, and shitty things, just hope someone you love will forgive you because they are too messed up to do the right thing and walk away from you"

Re: Lanterns [Crime, DC Studios]

I watched ep 7 & 8 back to back:
-Well, at least Tom King is consistent in his love of writing sad, depressed, suicidal heroes, sigh.  This one falls somewhere between Batman Rebirth and Mister Miracle.
-No one on this production team has ever played ANY kind of "sports ball", lol.
-The use of the ring or more appropriately the "lack of use" of the ring has become a very tired plot device.
-"GENERATIONAL TRAUMA", so gauche 🤣
-Still...what law did Hal break to catch a dime in federal prison?
I can see why S02 hasn't been "green lit" just yet;  maybe John could team up with Sinestro to fight capitalism and ride around the country in a RV like Shazam did in the 1970's?  I watched these two ep's in our theater and I gotta say the best thing about this show is the cinematography, the audio mix & the soundtrack - all are really good.

Damn you are a glutton for punishment!!
If I never see it again it will be too soon.

I sincerely hope Ellison fires Gunn and they reboot the whole damn universe again, it’s just an absolute mess already. There is no way that they can turn this around and make it a successful engaging franchise. No Batman as they don’t want to conflict with the now on hold Matt Reeves “Batman 2”, no Wonder Woman in sight, Discount store Superman, Dead Hal Jordan. And the next movie is more of a Lex Luther story than Superman story…..you can’t make this shit up!

Lemme AXE you why Guy Gardner walked away from John Stewart AFTER he noticed John had an unsanctioned lantern AND a stolen ring AND declared he was taking over Earth let me know, lol.  I mean, this is the same Gardner who stood toe to toe with Superman recently but now he's gonna walk away because John said some really hurtful things to him.

Perfectly valid questions, but I'm curious. Is there a reason you're making fun of his accent?

didnt his emphasize the accent more and more as the show progressed?
he was putting the emphasis on "axe" every time he said the word by the end.

i swear it felt like they wrote some parts just so he could say "axe" with emphasis.

it was distracting for myself and i thought the director/actor was either making a direct point or the director was to busy to notice what the actor was doing..

dont actors in movies generally avoid accents and regional dialect idioms??  unless there is a good reason?

Depends on the accent. I definitely wouldn't say that NY or Bostonian accents are avoided. Was Bill Burr's accent an issue in the Mandalorian? Or if there's a British or any kind of foreign guy in a show they seem to highlight that accent. My favorite accent was Kamina Drummer in the Expanse, because the actor went out of her way to train herself to have a Russian-Chinese-English accent mix and is why she kinda sounds off on a lot of words. There was a really cool interview with her about that, and she clearly had put a lot of thought into it. Did Matthew Mcconaughey's southern drawl ever get called out?

Nope, but there does seem to be an issue here doesn't there. So I ask again, why does the way he says 'ask' bother you so much?
