Yeah, a bit disappointing so far...

Re: Lanterns [Crime, DC Studios]

All of you that don't have the patience to watch a show shouldn't even be commenting on fora like this.

If I listened to any of your reviews after the first or second episode I would be missing out on the absolute intriguing show that this has become.

Y'all should at least let the show finish before spreading all your useless complaints all over the internet.

First of all, welcome to the forum smile

Second, waiting till the show is finished to discuss it? Why?
What good reason would we have to wait that long to discuss things that we liked or disliked, to argue and discuss about certain things we noticed and maybe offer insights to things others don't know about (like in this case comparison to the comics).
This gives us the opportunity to exchange ideas how the story might progress and maybe even blow our minds together at the end with a twist we didn't expect.

It is great that you like this show..but then again, in your case I would want to talk about the show right away and don't wait until it's done?
For many of the people who both watch the show and post in this forum, the show is unfortunately not as intriguing as it is for you. And that is what we are discussing here.

How about instead of telling us we shouldn't be doing what you see wrong to do, give us another perspective?
What do you find so intriguing about the show?
What parts of the story are fascinating to you?
What is your opinion on the Green Lantern Corp as depicted in this show?
What characters do you like and why?

Feel free to wait until the last four episodes have aired and tell us then - maybe all of us will find your perspective intriguing as well smile

Let's say you accept a new job, not because you applied to it but because your parents signed you up as a newborn and raised you to think you want it. You start out and realize they haven't even told the guy who already has the job that he is fired. They tell you it's your job to tell him. He already knows though, and you watch him completely debase himself trying to cling to it. Also, you meet another former employee and see that the current guy isn't even an exception. Those employers really do have a terrible track record. Yet another employee killed one of them at some point. They even managed to sort of fuck over your own father once, only took about 20 seconds. Do you still want to take that job?

He just wanted to prove he could, but not to actually get involved in that mess. Seems sane to me.

No, really, what are you even referring to? The "don't change my skin color" thing? Surely you do realize that was just there as a pretext to let him mention that his parents gave him special treatment?

If you truly do think that systemic racism isn't really a thing in the US anymore, I would be interested in hearing your theory on why, in a country where less than 15% of the population are any sort of "black", more than 30% of the prison population are.

storywise this episode was awesome - it's just a shame that the first 4 episodes don't really fit into it.
With what we now know everything that happened in that town so far feels stupid - could've done a much better job with building this up.

It did have some very bad scenes though...

▼Spoiler

The alien suicide bombers....how would they have blown up the entire town with those small explosions? That's a bundle of dynamite at best.
Also don't they have any alien weapons? Is human weapons and suicide bombs all they brought to take down a manhunter?

Same with the farmers...for advanced technology do they only have darkness (which apparently is specifically for green lanterns)? No other high tech stuff?
What about the satellite lasers? Surely that could've taken out those cars instead of using them on the townspeople...it worked with Zoe's car...
And btw...when Jordan took out the first satellite, didn't he check if there were more? How did they hide them?

Is the ring always low on charge in the comics as well? Kinda lame plot-device...

They made it sound like a Manhunter is more like a Succubus? I expected more, especially physical prowess - she got handcuffed to a car and had to cut off her hand...not capable of breaking the cuffs?

Apart from the technology, what made the Manhunter so dangerous? Taken out by a single bullet...meh.

As for the Lanterns....I've given up hope seeing them in a heroic light in this show...

IMO this is what happens when you don't like or even care about the source material.  This is just repurposing an IP to promote "the message".

It's what they on the right call 'reverse racism'. Apparently it is 'racist' to accurately portray what black people go through or have gone through, or at least that's what white supremacists say. That in so doing is somehow in itself racist against white people... somehow. They're using coded terminology but this is what actual racism sounds like.

Woke has multiple meanings. Woke (awoken being the full word) originally meant in street slang, to be aware of social issues prevailing in black communities. Essentially if you were aware that black businesses were burned down and black wall street, which was a section of successful NYC businesses that were burned down during KKK riots in the city, as well as prominent black businessmen and doctors being lynched throughout the decades have lead to an ongoing generational disparity of wealth.

Woke is also used by the right-wingers as a negative pejorative term for anything they view to be critical of right wing ideology, but is most often used as a coded word for racist intentions, such as anything that they view that is 'reverse racist', or has anything to do with pro-lgbt or anything else they don't like. Honestly with them the word has the near infinite flexibility of a slur at this point in their eyes.

Sure, entirely possible that there will be discussions about woke, if a show basically is based on it smile Same as anything else what people like or don't like in shows. And woke stuff is so polarizing that is has taken down governments, led to dissolvement of institutions, Musk purchasing Twittter and turning it into even worse hell hole etc. etc. All as expected.
