The scripted television series will be a faithful adaptation of the original Harry Potter books written by J.K. Rowling

A bit early to post, but since the trailer (see show page) just dropped I might as well smile

Release date December 2026 according to the trailer.

Apart from Nick Frost as Hagrid, nobody from the cast featured in the trailer really stood out to me (both in recognition and presence).
Production looked a little bit cheap imho, but hard to tell from a trailer. But most of all the scenes felt shallow, did not feel the depth from the movies.

I honestly think from all the stories they do remakes or reboots, this is the biggest mistake of them all.
Harry Potter is among the movie franchises that is timeless and should stay that way.

So yeah, not sure if I am going to watch it - maybe and episode or two and than switch to re-watching the movies smile

Deserved more runtime:
Abbys | Dead Like Me | Devs | Firefly | Gangsta. | Jack of all Trades | Kevin (probably) saves the World | Lodge 49 | Mrs. Davis | NYC 22 | Powerless | Roadkill | Special Unit 2 | Stumptown | Surface | The Brave | The Crazy Ones | The Finder | The Middleman | Truth Seekers | Two Weeks to Live | Whiskey Cavalier

Re: Harry Potter [TV Show]

I saw one article (https://www.slashfilm.com/2132464/harry … -problems/) that complained (along with Chris Columbus) that it looks like a duplicate of the movies, shot for shot. Apparently, there are some scenes in the series which are in the first book, but were left out of the movies. The material in the trailer seems to edge just a bit darker than the movies.
I'll watch the first ep, then we'll see. Not sure I'll be able to suspend my knowledge of the movies to keep an open mind!

Wait a sec… was that snape?

Now, who says there isn’t some kind of political agenda? I don’t know what that agenda is, but why do it?

Maybe this comment is for the other thread.

I knew about new Snape and honestly didn't care at all.

Nobody, again Nobody(!) can replace or play this role better than Alan Rickman.
So who cares which actor is "trying to play the" character - in my mind they will never be able replace the image of Hans Gruber ( smile ) playing Snape that I have.

In the Harry Potter books, Severus Snape is consistently described as a thin man with sallow (pale/sickly) skin, a large hooked nose, and shoulder-length, greasy black hair that frames his face. He has cold, black eyes, often described as dark tunnels, and uneven, yellowish teeth, frequently resembling a bat or a gargoyle

Why is it to essential for them to change it?

We all know why by now. Virtual Signaling and diversity messaging is more important than honoring the source material.

I'm actually kinda surprised the Weasleys are gingers still, I'm not sure how they managed to avoid the ginger genocide in entertainment...good for them.

While I will probably skip it (the movies are good enough for me), I will watch with eager anticipation the absurd minefield they have created for themselves by going out of their way to race swap such a pivot character.

1. Harry's dad bullying the crap out of the black guy when they were young.
2. Harry's dad hanging the black guy from a tree as part of said bullying.
3. Harry instantly being suspicious of the only black teacher in Hogwarts for no real reason initially. It really seems like the Potters are just a family of racist bigots lol
4. The whole Snape being the "Half Blood Prince" ie: Half mudblood.

I think this is going to be very entertaining.

As I'm sure you know, there was a *LOT* of fuss when the casting of Snape was announced for basically making a black guy the "evil" one. I do wish they'd picked characters whose race wouldn't matter, such as Dumbledore, Minerva, or Hagrid. As for your points, yeah, they might have to do some material massaging and retcon. I'm all for diversity, but I'm not sure they thought this through given that they want to do all the books, one each season.

That is basically my point - we already had the perfect representation of Snape with Alan Rickman.
In fact, we already had the perfect depiction of the story on screen.
A remake should only be attempted if you try to make a better version of a good story which had flawed storytelling.

The Harry Potter movies had great storytelling and captured ever necessary ounce of the books.
The question is not "why is it essential for them to change it" but why do we need this TV series (apart from the obvious)?

Because "diversity is strength" or something like that, who even can follow that messaging cascade big_smile Have your Severus with dreadlocks and be happy about it big_smile

Re: Harry Potter [TV Show]

Somehow I am happy I missed out the Harry Potter hype… not read the books, not saw the movies and give no s*** about the series.

All I saw - when I got exposed to some part of the Harry Potter universe - was some kids/teen fantasy stuff which didn’t made me the least bit interested. Funny enough, while being a huge fantasy buff.

Re: Harry Potter [TV Show]

Never watched the movies... liked the books too much and wanted to preserve my memories of those. The race switching in this is pretty insane though. It is going to be super amusing watching a black Snape get abused by Harry's dad. Though I bet they gloss over that.

White man bad is part of their genre, so chances are they will emphasize it. Still waiting when they will discover that white people live also outside of USA and had no plantations big_smile

Re: Harry Potter [TV Show]

As the YT comment said "It's like watching new people in your old house". And that saddens me.
