Topic: The 'Burbs

The 'Burbs
https://static.next-episode.net/tv-shows-images/huge/the-burbs.jpg

A young couple moves back to the husband's childhood home, only to face threats from new neighbors and uncover dark secrets of their cul-de-sac.

Apparently a reboot / reimagining of the movie version from 1989.

First episode was fun, good combination of witty dialogue and mystery.
Compared to similar shows this feels a bit lighter which I do like.

Characters are very likeable. Not sure about the pacing yet - feels a bit off.

Let's see where this is going.

Spoiler

Throwback to Tom Hanks from the original movie as Horace Hinkley in the documentary picture smile

Deserved more runtime:
Abbys | Dead Like Me | Devs | Firefly | Gangsta. | Jack of all Trades | Kevin (probably) saves the World | Lodge 49 | Mrs. Davis | NYC 22 | Powerless | Roadkill | Special Unit 2 | Stumptown | Surface | The Brave | The Crazy Ones | The Finder | The Middleman | Truth Seekers | Two Weeks to Live | Whiskey Cavalier

Re: The 'Burbs

I adore the film, one of my most watched movies from my youth.
Watched the first episode, they seem to be doing a decent job of keeping the theme.

Some 'ah this might be too cheesy for me' bits but enough moments I enjoyed to keep me in the game.

"Pizza dude!"

Re: The 'Burbs

Well, based on the positive comments above I'll give it a go even though it looks like another race-swapped money grab.

Re: The 'Burbs

Finished watching S01, can sum it up as Desperate Housewives from T.e.m.u with usual rot sprinkled on top. Meh, 5/10, had a potential to be way better.

Watched the movie trailer, imo it has no relation to it except a shady house, suburbs and the borrowed title.

OMG, we got about 10 min into ep 2 and turned it off.  Spoiler: it's all based on "white people bad/racist" and it's delivered with a very heavy hand, to the point of being offensive.  What a shame, this could have been really entertaining given the cast of quirky character actors.

Funny how racists always out themselves.

Yes, if tables would be flipped, Twitter would explode how racist this TV show is big_smile Minimum 10x they managed to squeeze in interesting lines smile Also, what is ironic and hilarious - and no clue how they themselves don't see this 1+1 - they at the same time spew their racist bs and also insult themselves. For example, white people and their white picket fences - so, you are saying that you are shocked to not live in sh1t? big_smile Imo it's not offensive, it's dumb and funny. And the most funny is the chain reaction which ends up with a Donalds signature on their dollar bills big_smile

aaand another one, you guys make it too easy to tell who you are. It is hilarious though. I work with farmers and Republicans, and it's awesome watching all them lose their businesses and farms because of his policies. He absolutely destroyed the US soybean industry.

I'm ocean away from all your Democrats & Republicans circus in 100% white country, the only racism I see is in American TV shows smile And it's  not Republicans destroying something, you all together in a team effort did that smile Plus it's a very simple math that stuff like in this show helped to elect Donald not once, but twice smile Chances are Hollywood is 2-in-1, biggest Donald haters and supporters at the same time. No political ads will work as good as couple TV shows/movies that spread similar stuff as this one. If you fight fire with fire, the result is fire. And if it's not clear, I'm not a Donald fan, he is an insane grandpa smile And also I'm not on Dems or Republicans side, both sides are detached from reality, there is not a case that one side is right and another wrong. Wrong are both, just different package. Racist also are both big_smile

Admittedly you have a strange sense of humor if you think that's funny and your septum ring energy is certainly palpable it doesn't appear to be that accurate at first glance regarding the industry as a whole.  Not that I'm any kind of expert.
