Topic: Show Pages - How to report missing trailers?

Since I don't know if you informed santah about the trailer already I'll let him know. smile

Speaking of which - what is the best / correct way to inform santah about trailers?
Last time I used the thread Show Images - Feedback and Update Requests

Current standard method: "contact us" down right at the bottom on https://next-episode.net/ and send show URL and trailer URL (after making sure it's not a fan-made or "concept" trailer [I really dislike those]). smile

I suggested that he adds a "Report missing trailer" button on every show page without a trailer, but that didn't come to fruition (yet?!?). cool

Re: Show Pages - How to report missing trailers?

I like the "Report missing trailer" button idea.

To not clutter the UI, maybe have the regular "Trailer" button greyed out when there isn't a Trailer available yet. When you click on it you get something like:

"Unfortunately there isn't a trailer for this show available yet. If you have found a Trailer please insert the link here:"

And underneath an edit box where you can enter the link?

Deserved more runtime:
Abbys | Dead Like Me | Devs | Firefly | Gangsta. | Jack of all Trades | Kevin (probably) saves the World | Lodge 49 | Mrs. Davis | NYC 22 | Powerless | Roadkill | Special Unit 2 | Stumptown | Surface | The Brave | The Crazy Ones | The Finder | The Middleman | Truth Seekers | Two Weeks to Live | Whiskey Cavalier

Okay, maybe "Report missing trailer" is too much text...

I fear that 99% of users would totally miss an option that you only see when/ if you click on it.

Maybe the "Trailer" icon greyed out and "Add Trailer" (in two lines) overlayed in color? (Clicking it would then show something like you suggested.)

Re: Show Pages - How to report missing trailers?

Whatever the UI is, it'll be on about 3/4 of the show pages, shown to everyone and will be used by very, very few people.

That's why I'm hesitant to do it.

Re: Show Pages - How to report missing trailers?

Instead of the show page, maybe adding an (optional) field on the Request a missing show would help?

Just an extra field where you can enter the YouTube link for the trailer. I assume the coding effort is minimal and the work at the backend for checking and adding the trailer is the same.

If someone requests a show to be added, they probably have heard about it from somewhere, maybe even saw a trailer.
Of course, many shows probably don't have a trailer at this point...but for those who have this makes it easier.

It will probably benefit the people who request new shows or request trailers to be added and does not at all affect the people who don't use them.

Any thoughts on this? Haven't requested a show to be added in a while, so forgot myself smile

Re: Show Pages - How to report missing trailers?

This will be used so infrequently by the users who are requesting a show (I'd guess less than 1 in 100) and YouTube trailers are tricky (AI trailers, fake trailers, videos with age/embedding/region restrictions) that it really wouldn't be worth having that field when requesting/adding a show.

Users can freely suggest trailers through the contact form though.
