Topic: Talamasca: The Secret Order
https://next-episode.net/talamasca-the-secret-order
The Talamasca is devoted to studying the supernatural world and keeping mortals safe from its darkest elements.
First episode was good, left me wanting to see the second. -- Post EDITED by admin, see two posts down.

Re: Talamasca: The Secret Order
Agreed. Also, it's been so long since I read the books this is almost new to me aside from the name. Looking forward to ep 2. I liked Jason Schwartzmann's character.

Re: Talamasca: The Secret Order
I decided to watch Mayfair Witches first since the Talamasca are involved in that show also. Will get to this show after. Made it to the beginning of S2 and decided to stop with the Mayfair Witches.

+1 Cautiously optimistic, but a good start. I am finding it a little odd that Episodes 1 & 2 air tomorrow according to multiple sources, but can already find the first one to watch, but not the 2nd one which was slated at the same time.

Yeah, we stopped with the Witches, too. You do not need to have watched that series to understand Talamasca anyway.

I am not familiar with previous Anne Rice TV adaptations. Is there a particular order one should watch them in?

I'll wait for an IMDb rating before checking it out.

Sounds promising. You might also like https://next-episode.net/1899 (If you want to discuss that, please use the 1899 thread.)

Re: Talamasca: The Secret Order
Only watched the first episode so far, but 8/10 feels a bit high imho. I would rate this episode 6/10. I like the main character, but the backstory feels a bit wonky. And the organisation... the introduction was displayed too small for my taste. ▼Spoiler With stories like this, there has to be a reason why the main character has been kept "hidden away"... I mean the book connection feels too random for it to be a reason, especially since boss lady doesn't seem to know or care about it. The big "they are always listening" moment would've been great if they would've actually shown someone listening in. But now evidence of that at all. So why has he been raised outside of this supernatural world?
But let's see what episode 2 has to offer.
Deserved more runtime: Abbys | Dead Like Me | Devs | Firefly | Gangsta. | Jack of all Trades | Kevin (probably) saves the World | Lodge 49 | Mrs. Davis | NYC 22 | Powerless | Roadkill | Special Unit 2 | Stumptown | Surface | The Brave | The Crazy Ones | The Finder | The Middleman | Truth Seekers | Two Weeks to Live | Whiskey Cavalier https://next-episode.net/user/WilliamDrakeMcGregor/

Some of the answers you seek may be answered later in the series. To me, most of them are self evident. ▼Spoiler He just got out of school, pulling him earlier would have meant denying him that opportunity which the Talamasca clearly wanted him to have. Additionally, he is pretty young. Would you have them make contact when he was merely a teenager? Raising him outside the supernatural world gives one real world experience. One needs that to be effective in the real world imo. I also think greater insight into the organization will come with time.

I would agree if they were doing that with everyone, not just him...let's see about that

For me, that doesn't have to be the case. ▼Spoiler Every person may have different gifts that develop in different ways. Some may mature faster than others. Circumstances could also play a part as to when they introduce themselves. I would add that some things feel a bit rushed. But, if I discounted every show that had aspects that felt rushed, there wouldnt be many left to watch.

Re: 1899 - If you decide to watch this you should know that it was planned and filmed with a season 2 in mind, but the show was cancelled before it could be made. Having said that, I enjoyed it.

Re: Talamasca: The Secret Order
To summarize episode 2 in two words - "One Week"...yeah doesn't work for me 6/10 is still accurate though. This kind of plot works as a silly action comedy, but not as a serious drama series. jim1961 wrote:▼Spoiler Every person may have different gifts that develop in different ways. I think you have thought this through a lot more than the writers probably have .

Re: Talamasca: The Secret Order
I suppose this one is turning into one that only I like. On 2nd watch, I will admit its probably a 7/10 show for me, rather than 7.5/10 that I was rounding up to a 8/10 previously.

Re: Talamasca: The Secret Order
We're liking it pretty well - at least enough to see what happens in the next episode. Yeah, we have questions and at one point we found ourselves playing "spot the vampire". I'm just not buying Eliz McGovern's accent. After all the exposure on Downton, you'd think she'd have nailed it.

I do hope we see more vampires, maybe a demon or a ghost and definitely some witches. Given that S1 is only 6 episodes, I am fearing that the one storyline we have seen maybe the only one. Hope I am proved wrong.

1x3 Indeed some witches. A vampire. The story deepens. True motives revealed. Tensions build.

What do you mean? She's an american actor, she played an american in Downton, and again an american in Talamasca.
