Follows the most miserable person on Earth and the one who must save the world from happiness.

The series situates itself in our world while bending the rules of reality. Unraveling the complexities of the human condition in startling, unforeseen ways.

Looks great.

DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom".

Re: Pluribus [Drama, Sci-Fi]

The sci-fi elements were absent in the trailer, or did I miss something?

My impression is that the cast, minus one, live on a steady diet of nitrous oxide.

You did not. It was not easy to find, but Claude Haiku finally helped:

The sci-fi elements are particularly interesting because they focus on psychological transformation rather than typical technological or alien-based science fiction tropes. The series seems to ask profound questions about what happens when human emotion becomes a controlled, uniform state.

Also, I found out that it's "Already renewed for a second season" - so they must be really confident in the quality! smile

Feels like “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” but updated for a more sophisticated horror: Be Happy.

Interesting perspective... I didn't think in that direction, but it makes sense. smile

Re: Pluribus [Drama, Sci-Fi]

Season 1, Episode 1...freakin' awesome, loved it !  9/10 for the episode.

Main character is well written and Rhea Seehorn is great in the role.

But more so I like the directing. In particular the work with the background...you don't notice it until later in the episode but the style works very well.

I like the story and it's easy to follow, no brain-teasers so far which let's you focus more on the human-aspect of it all.

Spoiler

That small dig at Star Trek... - this could basically be the plot for a Star Trek episode smile

Last episode drops on december 26th...so this is hopefully going to be one hell of a year-ender smile

Yes, I LOVED 1x1! My expectations were high, and I was not disappointed! smile

Probably the best 1x1 I saw this year.

https://next-episode.net/3-body-problem vibes, anyone?

Re: Pluribus [Drama, Sci-Fi]

I tried this but not one for me and stopped half way through the first episode and binned it.

Re: Pluribus [Drama, Sci-Fi]

Episode 2

Spoiler

and as a non-US viewer (UK) there was a distinct vibe of “rugged American Individualism” being good and the rest of the world being “Commie Socialists welcoming the new paradigm” bad.

The fact that the other imune survivors are all non-white just made it worse.

Hope this is just a passing element to the overall story as it explores the implications of the event on humanity.

Re: Pluribus [Drama, Sci-Fi]

1x1, 1x2

Spoiler

Shows that explore this particular line of thought always provoke a similar response from me.  How do we know what presently constitutes humanity is the correct or natural one?  I mean, its always portrayed that when some outside force tries to change humanity, its a bad thing and we ought to fight it.  OK, that seems reasonable, after all, isnt it a form of invasion?  But on the other hand, how do we know the present state of humanity isnt already some version of some outside forces intent? Perhaps that is happening to us as we speak?

As to this show specifically, I find it odd that of the 12 known persons who were not changed by the alien code, 11 of them almost seem indifferent to the effect its had on rest of humanity.  Or rather, even think the change is a good thing.

I am also wondering if this is going to go down very predictable lines where by that one person who sees the change in humanity as something that needs to be eradicated, somehow saves the human race, all by herself.

I am on the fence about this show.  It could go favorably into something unexpected or turn into something utterly predictable.  Cant tell by the first 2 episodes.  Will give this one at least one more episode to try and see where its going.

Oops! Sorry about that, was on an iPad doing a quick read and post, just didn’t think about it.

Re: Pluribus [Drama, Sci-Fi]

Episode 2...also very well done.

The only thing I am afraid of right now is that there will be hundreds of unanswered questions at the end. I really hope that isn't the case because for every question answered I have like ten new ones pop up in my head (probably have to write those down smile ).

The first two episodes make me doubt that we'll only get something "utterly predictable"... I'm 99% sure the high user ratings won't suddenly drop to (or below) average mid-season, 1x1 was just too good for that to happen.

I suppose like any show where you really like it after two episodes, you expect to like the rest as well.  Makes sense.  For me though, the first two episodes average out to about a 6/10.  So I don't share your sense of optimism about how the show plays out going forward.

As for IMDB, they give another Gilligan show (Better Call Saul) a 9/10 that after trying twice, I cant get past the first episode.
