Topic: Murderbot [Drama, Action, Sci-Fi]
https://next-episode.net/murderbot

"Murderbot" is an action-packed sci-fi series, based on the award-winning books by Martha Wells, about a self-hacking security android who is horrified by human emotion yet drawn to its vulnerable "clients." Murderbot must hide its free will and complete a dangerous assignment when all it really wants is to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out its place in the universe.

IMDb's (vertical) show image is so good, I had to (also) put it into the thread. Trailer was just released! Murderbot — Official Trailer | Apple TV+ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEioDeOiqEs I like it a lot.

Is it just me or is the styling of the word trying looks very familiar to something else. At first I thought it was Love, Death + Robots, but it's not.
DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom". http://xkcd.com/488/

An interesting quirky series that I have enjoyed the first 2 episodes of.

Only watched 1x1 so far. A good start! Nice cast variety, and the story offers lots of room to go in different directions.

Enjoyed both episodes. Just wish the episodes were a bit longer.

Yes, quite enjoyable so far. The 30 minute format keeps me wanting for a little bit more comedy, but other than that good show. I also wouldn't mind a Spin-Off from "The Rise & Fall of Sanctuary Moon" - it looks like the stupid kind of fun
Deserved more runtime: Abbys | Dead Like Me | Devs | Firefly | Gangsta. | Jack of all Trades | Kevin (probably) saves the World | Lodge 49 | Mrs. Davis | NYC 22 | Powerless | Roadkill | Special Unit 2 | Stumptown | Surface | The Brave | The Crazy Ones | The Finder | The Middleman | Truth Seekers | Two Weeks to Live | Whiskey Cavalier https://next-episode.net/user/WilliamDrakeMcGregor/

To me some of the shows he has access too, sound more fun then what we are currently watching. They really put some thought into this. The background detail is amazing. Apple has produced some quality work. But they are known for 1 season shows. Just wanted to add, I have never heard or read of the books. Might give them a try.

Re: Murderbot [Drama, Action, Sci-Fi]
As someone how has read the books no less than 6 times over the years (and if you haven't read them, I highly encourage it - they are fantastic), I'm very excited about this series. The trailers look like they are sticking to the source material well. But I can't decide if I should make myself wait until July 11 to watch them all together or give in and watch two now.... I hope this isn't just one season. The first four in the series are novellas and this only covers one, and the second one is my favourite. But all four are fantastic, and they go together like a novel. The novels that come after that are a bit more standalone types.

*meh* Not for me... Gave the first two episodes a go. But... just everything about felt cheesy. And yes, I am aware it should be "comedy" and maybe a bit cheesy. I just didn't find it particular entertaining or well made to enjoy. And tbh, none of the characters make me want to see more of them. Not even the bot. Also don't think it is a role Alexander Skarsgård particular shines in.

They deserve a few more episodes for us to really be able to tell IMHO.

I had the same thought about Alexander Skarsgård. He is a good actor, but this role isn't particularly suited for him - nevertheless, I think he is doing a good job within his limits. I was also thinking who would be better suited for that role. Right now I'm at either Betty Gilpin, Antony Starr or John Cena with John Cena being the favorite about the narration and Betty Gilpin in terms of playing emotionless and "switching on and off".

Yeah, they are my "comfort" books - if I'm anxious about things and can't focus on a new book, I can reread those and they are still so enjoyable to me that they take my mind off of things. Like if you have a favourite movie that you have watched numerous times over the years - I'm like that but with books! Haha.

For me that's either sitcoms (like Brooklyn Nine Nine, 2 Broke Girls, etc.) or music

I have stopped reading books about 20-25 years ago. Used to read a book a day. Now I take comfort from re watching old good series like The Wire, ToS, DS9, Stargate. When I was on my 5th re-watch of The Wire I was still picking up small stuff I missed the first 4 times. There is something to be said about comfort books, music or TV shows. I might resume reading if I can find a nice affordable 10-12 inch tablet. Eyes getting weaker with age. Just for the storage savings. I sold all my 2500 books. They took up way to much room.

Re: Murderbot [Drama, Action, Sci-Fi]
Have not read the books. I wish I had the luxury of just sitting and reading but work... I'm digging the show enough to grab the audio books - that's my 'reading' now as I can do it while working. I'm happy with the show, but this trend of short streaming is killing me. First of all, only 10 episodes ordered. And this show is less than 30 minutes per episode. So they're calling less than 5 hours of content a "season". Really? Also looks like they're dropping length with each episode s01e01 = 29mins s01e02 = 24mins s01e03 = 22mins If they're going to do that nonsense they should have dropped in 3 batches so we could watch in 'chapters' kinda like they did with Andor s02. At least then 3 episodes is the same as watching a movie. In 20-ish minute chunks like this its more like watching those Battlestar Galactica webisode they did.

Not sure but I believe several members suggested one movie. Instead of nickle and diming us to death. So far I really enjoy his attitude towards humans. They mirror mine.

Totally agree... but one thing is bugging the piss out of me: ▼Spoiler SecUnit seems to have no ability to multitask. Can't listen to the human *and* watch his show. If he's doing anything then can't be alert to the environment and what's going on: That seems a problem for almost any robot let along a security model.

Re: Murderbot [Drama, Action, Sci-Fi]
I have not seen E03 yet... But as I was reading the comments, I just thought that so far the premise is a lot like Resident Alien but with a rougue robot in the main role instead of an alien. Hiding his true self in a trusting community that he is more than eager to terminate.

Yes, 1x3 was short, but I prefer this over adding random filler material to make each episode a certain length. I liked 1x3!

Re: Murderbot [Drama, Action, Sci-Fi]
I am with SgtSaint on this one. Only shows with single-episode storylines (sitcoms, shows like Love, Death & Robots) should be allowed to have such short episodes. Everything else should either bei 30+ mins or at least be an actual full season. Nevertheless episode 3 was ok, I really hope the story picks up from now on. ▼Spoiler About 15 mins of the 22mins were spend with them trying to treat Murderbot more human and him failing to pretend he is still a regular SecUnit. Honestly how oblivious can they be? His excuses also keep getting worse. Thankfully the last 7mins saved the episode.

Re: Murderbot [Drama, Action, Sci-Fi]
Okay, as someone who has read the books and went in with high hopes due to the trailers, I am actually profoundly disappointed. It's okay, but just okay. They made it very cheesy and Skarsgard really does not play the role well. The 30 minute episode time breaks things up too much and makes some things feel repetitive as they feel the need to explain things again sometimes. They changed some plot details that didn't need changed, and honestly made some things that will come up later be more confusing. I'll watch the rest, but I will probably wait and just watch the whole thing once it is out because I think it would at least flow better then. Also, for those of you talking about comfort TV shows, I have those too! That's my daytime/evening thing, but I read after I go to bed because I have insomnia. Usually 1-2 hours a day until I fall asleep. I also sometimes read these books when I am in airports and such (I listen to music sometimes but I have yet to find headphones that don't cause me pain after about 20 minutes, inner or over ear. I have nerve problems). That said, I know most people aren't readers but for those of you who are, I do highly recommend these. Far better than the show!
