MobLand

Follows two warring families in London whose enterprises stretch all corners of the globe, and the fiercely loyal fixer charged with protecting one of them at all costs.

Ironically this show had an alternative name "The Donovans", since if I'd had to describe it, I would say it's basically Ray Donovan in the world of John Wick smile

First episode was good. A lot of star power here, with Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Hellen Mirren...which usually isn't an indicaton for a good show but in this case it could be a decisive factor.

Directing, writing and the story all make a good first impression as well.

Can't wait for episode 2 smile

Shows that deserved more runtime:
Abbys | Dead Like Me | Devs | Firefly | Gangsta. | Jack of all Trades | Kevin (probably) saves the World | Lodge 49 | Mrs. Davis | NYC 22 | Powerless | Roadkill | Special Unit 2 | Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi | Stumptown | Surface | The Brave | The Company You Keep | The Crazy Ones | The Finder | The Middleman | Truth Seekers | Two Weeks to Live | Whiskey Cavalier

Re: MobLand

Not seen it yet, but it's not getting great reviews here.  Cartoonish Cockney accents, poor Irish accents from actual Irish people(!) and generally a waste of all the acting talent involved.

2020.  Meh.

Re: MobLand

Trailer makes it look like a less funny (but good!) alternative to https://next-episode.net/the-gentlemen smile

I shall check it out if IMDb gives the green light in a few days. big_smile

Re: MobLand

Just watched the first episode and it is excellent plenty of action and intrigue Brosnan and Mirren are believable in their roles.

Re: MobLand

Well, sat through ep1 yesterday... not impressed. I mean, it is ok. But nothing more than that. The first episode did not build up any motivation to even start episode 2.

Terrible accents put aside, it just feels like "haven't we seen all of this before, but much more interesting?". Feels more like a soap opera, like Irish crime "Dynasty".

Maybe, if I am REALLY bored, I might go to epi2, but probabkly won't happen as I have enough other stuff on my watch list including rewatching actual good shows.

sorry, but no... this show doesn't deserve the praise and hype it gets.

Re: MobLand

Just watched the season finally. Overall it was OK.

The story became weaker by the episode and the grand conclusion to it all fell flat at the end.
I don't like cliffhangars that much, but this show could've used one - with how they left it, utterly forgettable.

But for all it's flaws the biggest one is that we never get to see the full scope of either family, Harrigans and Stevensons. I still have no idea how many soldiers or workers or different branches these two crime operations have and what influence they wield...

Spoiler

...especially that last scene with Conrad made it looked like everyone in the prison was part of the Harrigan family or supported them somehow....well that was the first time we get to see more than 10 people working for one side.

And Stevensons...so those 10-15 guys were all they had (left)?

As for Harry, there was no real surprise with him. He kept his cool from the beginning to the end...no expectations made and no expectations failed.
Cat was the second person to threaten his family...if he had at least put a bullet in here that would've been somewhat unexpected.

I was hoping for some grand payback from Kevin but no, all bark no bite (at least none we have seen).

Eddie just disappeared at the end, no idea what happened to him (and nobody seems to care).
