Topic: The Agency
https://next-episode.net/the-agency

Martian is a covert CIA agent ordered to abandon his undercover life and return to London Station. When the love he left behind reappears, romance reignites. His career, his real identity and his mission are pitted against his heart; hurling them both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage.
Judging from the first two episodes this looks very very interesting. From the description you would think typical spy-show. But I think the depicition of spies and their work is what puts this show apart from others. It "feels" very realistic. So far no over-dramatization or characters widely "overpowered". Michael Fassbender plays his role great and the rest of the cast is pretty good themselves. As for the story
▼Spoiler I do like the current crisis, what's happening in fictional Belarus and how they handle the situation. Danny as a side story is also good so far. A perfect excuse for him to get into situations where he has to be in two places at the same time. The story with Samia however...I wish this wasn't part of the show. I think it would have been enough to show the emotional and psychological result of him leaving her and his live there behind. Her being (probably) a spy doesn't sit well with me at all. I don't think she is part of "the network" so it will be a totally separate storyline and three is too many for a show like this.
Deserved more runtime: Abbys | Dead Like Me | Devs | Firefly | Gangsta. | Jack of all Trades | Kevin (probably) saves the World | Lodge 49 | Mrs. Davis | NYC 22 | Powerless | Roadkill | Special Unit 2 | Stumptown | Surface | The Brave | The Crazy Ones | The Finder | The Middleman | Truth Seekers | Two Weeks to Live | Whiskey Cavalier https://next-episode.net/user/WilliamDrakeMcGregor/

Re: The Agency
Yeah, I'm also enjoying this show. Its realness reminds me of https://next-episode.net/lioness. The suspense in 1x2...
▼Spoiler ...at the Russian checkpoint (and what happened afterwards) was awesome!

Re: The Agency
Hi all, Heads up NE crew, the thumbnail used in the Watchlist section...
...appears to be for a different series...
Found a seemingly official promo pic for the '24 US series:
======================== Btw, the series that "The Agency" is based on is the French show "The Bureau" - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4063800/ ...and it's a stone-cold classic. Highly recommend. Psyched to start watching this version soon, too.

Thanks, I'll point santah to your post. AlexNE wrote:...and it's a stone-cold classic.
Would that be "stone-warm" when you live near the equator?

Re: The Agency
Not sure about this one first episode all over the place. Hopefully it will improve.

Re: The Agency
20 mins in and if you've seen Le Bureau then this version is as superflous as it is redundant. 20 mins in and its pretty much exactly the same plot ▼Spoiler (right down to Coyote refusing grog and the file "corrupting") but spoonfed for us English speaking dopes. A paint by numbers version of a Rembrandt. Rubbish.

Couldn't agree more. With the last two episodes watched (03 + 04) watched, this show desperately needs some focus on one main story, which I could not say is which. ▼Spoiler The most suspensfull situation so far was the three operatives from the "Felix" operation in Belarus...which was solved in the most boring way possible....

Re: The Agency
I like the show. They expose the inner conflicts better than most other spy shows IMHO. Yes, it could be better, but I don't have much to complain about. 8/10 so far.

Re: The Agency
This show lost me...none of the storylines became remotely interesting and are far too loosely held together. ▼Spoiler The student ID of his daughter also tipped the scale for me on this one...that screw-up is bigger than what he scolded Owen over...

▼Spoiler Was it shown how her ID ended up in his jacket? I don't recall... Sometimes, people wear stuff from other family members, even if only at home. Maybe she put it in there accidentally?

I expect from him
▼Spoiler to know what is in his pockets. In his line of work he has to be on alert 24/7, has to be aware of everything that might compromise him... I don't recall either how the ID ended up in his pocket. At first I thought he purposefully had the ID in his jacket for a plan of sorts to fool his followers...but no, he just didn't know or forgot or whatever... I expected a lot of professionalism from this character. I get that his relationship with Sami is supposed to have an influence on him, but not like this.

True, in a perfect world someone like him would be perfect. But, realistically, people do screw up. You see/ read about/ experience it everywhere, so I found that plausible (enough).

1x9. I watched this episode louder than usually and really enjoyed how perfectly the music supported what we see. Well done! I also really liked how they did the translations of the chat: at first, Russian was being typed, and then turned into English, allowing the viewer to read along without having to use subtitles or awkward translation bubbles. Only when it was established that we were getting a translation, only English was shown for further messages. Genius!

Not bad show but unfortunately French original series (Le Bureau des Legendes) was so much better.

Could be, IMDb rating looks good, but I won't ever find out (if this show gets roughly as many episodes).
