Rome, 79 A.D.: The population—bored, restless, and increasingly violent—is kept in line by two things: free food and spectacular entertainment. As the taste in entertainment becomes more jaded and bloodthirsty, a stadium designed for gladiatorial combat is needed - the Colosseum. Underground, thousands of people work and live—among them thousands who will die for the games.

The series title references the Latin greeting made to the Emperor at the games, Ave Imperator, morituri te salutant, or "Hail Emperor, those about to die salute you".

1x1 - The story moves along quickly so it's easy to get into it and stay invested.  Some scenes look so digital they take me out of the fiction a bit, but the performances and pacing keep me watching.  All the actors play their characters well and you get a clear sense of their point of view. Dimitri Leonidas plays Scorpus, who I just call Hober Mallow. lolz.

Definitely not Rome (HBO) calibre, but it's good.

I'm happy you like it. The trailer didn't resonate with me at all, so I won't watch it.

Tried but gave up after 15 minutes. 0 production value with cheesy CGI, uninspired, lame and dull. Go watch Rome or Spartacus (if you can stand the violence and excessive amount of sex, artificial blood and gore). Avoid this production.

Gave up after the scene with the two girls killing the roman dude in a small room. It was terrible to watch, actions were slow and made no sense, as if they were waiting for ques how to proceed with the scene.

Was hoping for another Rome or at least a Spartacus, but the quality was to bad to watch.
I hope i gave up to early, since I do like the setting of old rome.
Does it get better or is it the same throughout the series?

I actually made it to the next scene where the "hunter" caught the huge white lion. The CGI was just too silly, filming and scene setting awful and the acting just laughable.

Season 1 - A simple straightforward story that focused less on the Emperor or Gladiators, but about a family forced into slavery by Roman soldiers, who used their wits and Roman society to gain back their freedom.  It features excessive and unnecessary sexuality, paints Rome as the devil, and lacked nuance and depth throughout.  Also, was this a showcase of DIE politics?  Maybe.  Veiled behind Roman life which lends itself so easily to present day DIE politics, I started to realize it checked off every box, which would explain why the story is such pablum.  Reading what history accounts to have happened to Titus and Domitian, the ending tracks.
