Told in real time, Hijack is a tense thriller that follows the journey of a hijacked plane as it makes its way to London over a seven-hour flight, as authorities on the ground scramble for answers. Sam Nelson is an accomplished negotiator in the business world who needs to step up and use all his guile to try and save the lives of the passengers - but his high-risk strategy could be his undoing.

I'll watch this! Trailer looks really good.

Idris Elba + interesting story + Apple money = should be good. smile

God, I miss the glory days of 24 and its real time seasons.

Re: Hijack [Drama, Thriller]

Finally found the time to watch 1x1. I like it! Solid cast.

Re: Hijack [Drama, Thriller]

I'm caught up on it. It's entertaining enough so far

Re: Hijack [Drama, Thriller]

Finished. It's fine but not must watch. Not the kind of thing you'd recommend to someone but also not the kind of thing you'd warn someone off of. Feels like something you've seen several times, but different enough to watch again. Far from the worst thing one of the Lordeth's Idrises Elba has been wasted on.

Also finished it. The final episode could have been better, but a solid show anyway. Recommended.

Re: Hijack [Drama, Thriller]

Solid show. I enjoyed the real-time aspect, which I miss from '24'.

The finale was the weakest of the episodes but overall, I would recommend watching. I'd go a confident 7/10 as it has enough to keep you engaged, but with room for improvement.

Great! Can't imagine how they'll continue the show after season one, but I'm sure they've found some way. smile

smile They did:

Idris Elba’s Hijack returns to Apple TV on January 14th with a new 8-part story set in Berlin.

The show’s debut outing saw Elba’s Sam Nelson aboard a hijacked airplane heading to London and using all his experiences as a corporate negotiator to try and save his life and those of his fellow passengers.

Season two moves the action underground with a new story which finds Nelson on board a Berlin underground train when it’s hijacked.

This guy has got to have the worst luck in the world. First he gets caught up in a plane hijacking, then he gets caught up in a train hijacking.

What's next? Gets caught up in a bus hijacking where the bus can't go below 50m/h? big_smile

They wildin' with their US format of the date at the end of the trailer.

I thought this was a limited series smile...to continue storywise feels weird. This hardly works in movies (Speed 2) and even less so in tv shows.

But trailer looks decent, let's give it a go.

Deserved more runtime:
Abbys | Dead Like Me | Devs | Firefly | Gangsta. | Jack of all Trades | Kevin (probably) saves the World | Lodge 49 | Mrs. Davis | NYC 22 | Powerless | Roadkill | Special Unit 2 | Stumptown | Surface | The Brave | The Crazy Ones | The Finder | The Middleman | Truth Seekers | Two Weeks to Live | Whiskey Cavalier

Yes, and yes. I'm skeptical, but optimistic. smile

Re: Hijack [Drama, Thriller]

I agree with @greyhound about "24" and golden age of real-time shows.

I could get behind a season 2 of this if he were getting called in, in his capacity as a negotiator to different situations.  But the odds of him being on a hijacked plane and now a hijacked train?  Its just such a freaking stretch.  On its own, good actors, probably a decent script again.  As a stand alone limited series as it was originally intended it would be fine.  In the totality of the universe they are making it doesn't add up.

Or... Put in a different lead character.  One guy was one a hijacked plane, and a totally different guy on a hijacked train but keep the common thread of someone with brains and skills... Maybe a police detective... ex-Army... something.

Idris Elba, Archie Panjabi, Max Beesley? They can make a show about paint drying patterns and I will watch it.

Elba I knew from "The Losers", then Marvel - Like him

Looking the others up on IMDB...

Panjabi - Oh, Nas from Blindspot.  Yeah, ok.  Won't hold playing The Rani in the failed seasons of Doctor Who against her

Max Beesley - No Idea.  I watched Strike Back back in 2015 but 10 years ago and don't remember him (maybe a short role?).  And "Homeland" was even further back.

Re: Hijack [Drama, Thriller]

Archie Panjabi was excellent in The Good Wife

Re: Hijack [Drama, Thriller]

The start of the S02E01 was simply criminal big_smile Ohhhhh, noooo, how dare you to profile one of 3.5 most likely sources of terrorism in Germany big_smile And for idiots that even was spelled out, just in case somebody was about to miss THE MESSAGE big_smile

But the twist at the end of the episode compensated that bs. Tho plot already is like a Swiss cheese.

Spoiler

You can stop trains remotely. When emergency brake is triggered, train stops in all cases, you cannot override it without stopping. Also not long ago one German airline pilot did a suicide with extra steps and crashed the plane into a mountain. That + their Allahu akbar surprises pretty sure means that they have brutal paranoia procedures if some train guy starts to act shady.

Spoiler

P.S. siderodromophobia

Really?

The entire first season could have been told within a 2 hour window. It felt too drawn out and long. And considering what season 2 is about. What is Season 3 going to be? Car, bus, boat jacking?

I finished season 1. Love the main guy. But won't participate in season 2 and doubt there will be a 3.

Re: Hijack [Drama, Thriller]

I don't remember well the first season, just remember that it felt quite ok (tho these days it's relative and a low bar). If want to know how they managed to squeeze in a train hijacking, watch (suffer) S02E01 till the very last sentence.

Will watch a couple more episodes in hope that they did all the mandatory bs in the first one and now we can get to the actual show.

Re: Hijack [Drama, Thriller]

S2: gave up.

Boring and dumb.

Tedious too.

Oh, and its mostly in German. Yippee.

Pass

Re: Hijack [Drama, Thriller]

I'm still watching this, want to see what big brains did there.

S02E03 is taking a comedy turn, "plant based, greenwashing" - what are the chances that from tens of thousands of professions we have a sustainability consultant right in the center of a train hijacking, lol.

Totally irrelevant to the story "btw, I'm a vegan and there is a greenwashing going on", thank you, till the next time big_smile

Re: Hijack [Drama, Thriller]

Sort of like Murder she wrote, where I found it hard to believe that 1 woman was near all them deaths. I would have arrested her and stopped the madness.
