imo, the weakest season so far, even I think it's in slow motion.

I'm still enjoying Silo! Yes, could be better, but it's way better than having no Silo IMHO. nextgr00vy wrote:came here to the comments after I gave it one star - i wish i could give it less - literally it's become a show i no longer fast forward through at 2x - i jump through it watching 30 seconds seeing mind numbing irrelevant dialog - jump forward annnnnnnnd repeat... it's absolute trash to me now... ugh... it had soooo much promise... rip
If you 'watch' a TV show like that, it might be time to give it up...

It was nice to see Colin Hanks (as a sort of Elon Musk). 25 years ago he was in 'Roswell', his last SF show. I just don't remember him as a tall person there...

Re: Silo [Drama, Sci-Fi]
The flashbacks better have one hell of a pay off... Couldn't give 2 shits about the past and how/why the silos were created, I just want the present day story. I'm borderline ready to drop this show because of all the time wasted with the flashback scenes.

Re: Silo [Drama, Sci-Fi]
Ashley Zuckerman as a congressman takes me out of the fiction, and 7 episodes of backstory with him and the journalist didn't move the story forward as to why the Silos were built. Makes everyone wonder, why are we watching this, are they important to a future generation in the Silo, who's ancestor are they? The real backstory for the audience this season should've gone further back than where they chose to start the flashbacks, and been about the actual people involved in government and business who first assessed the threat and made the decision to start building the Silos, and not about a congressman and journalist who stumbled upon a mystery we already know. If they started the show off with the flashbacks in season 1, and the first scene was '400 years ago', it would've been way more palatable than doing them now in season 3.

Re: Silo [Drama, Sci-Fi]
3x08 - Gray Goo - Could've condensed the backstory episodes into this one, as it finally moved the story forward. Only took 8 episodes. You could skip the first 7 episodes, watch 308 with the recap, and have missed nothing in season 3. They should've led with this episode, the audience needed it after season 2.
This was cute:

It's about the journey, not just the destination.

Agreed, the backstory journey was just a tedious and redundant one, as we already knew the congressman and journalist would find the Silos, yet we still don't know why they're relevant, if at all to the larger story, and I'm thinking they might not be. I blame the 9 episode format, it restricts character development. I like the rest of the show, the Silo story got way better after episode 4.

For me... The best backstory to Silo has been watching season 1 of "Paradise". They've done more there in 7 episodes than Silo has done in all three seasons to date, using the same premise. They've just executed it far better.

Re: Silo [Drama, Sci-Fi]
They sure are trying to stretch a story that had maybe 12-15 episodes left in it out to 20. But shows like this are just as much about the immersion as they are about the story itself, so really, it's fine. One detail I enjoyed was when she called them morlocks. That's kinda what the entire idea boils down to, isn't it?

Re: Silo [Drama, Sci-Fi]
@SgtSaint, Isn't Paradise just a murder mystery, or did it become a scifi? @some_one - Good catch, the morlocks from Time Machine, let's hope it doesn't boil down to that. Hopefully they'll set up the situation needed for fixing the problem outside and make a livable Earth the finale instead of morlock land. Evolution not devolution, lolz. We already have Fallout. Silo deals with a very similar subject matter as the video games Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West. ▼Spoiler In the games, Earth was destroyed by what's called a Faro Plague, which was a fatal unidentifiable code glitch that caused the military robots to sever command chains, self-replicate exponentially, and consume all biomass for fuel. Knowing this glitch doomed Earth, a technology was created to jump start the planet once man figured out a way to defeat the faro-plague, called Project Zero Dawn, a fully automated terraforming system controlled by a central artificial intelligence named GAIA and managed by specialized subordinate AI functions. It's a cliffhanger ending in Forbidden West where another AI threat is coming to Earth from outer space that requires everyone to defeat, and the story ends before you get a chance to restart Earth and finish the job. In the game, people live outside and coexist with the robots, and as much they are a serious problem, the situation isn't as bad as Silo. It would be amazing if a version of this type of terraforming technology ends up in the show. Maybe this is what Silo #1 has been working on all along?

This much is in the show description all over online so I'm not spoilerizing it. Its a murder mystery that takes place in the underground bunker-city of "Paradise", after an extinction-level event topside. And they reveal the backstory of the event, the planning, the building etc. through flashbacks. Sound familiar? But honestly, its head and shoulders above Silo. Go watch the first episode. If it doesn't grab ya, then it doesn't.

Re: Silo [Drama, Sci-Fi]
s03e09 Watched it last night. This morning I'm struggling to recall if anything actually happened. But... umm... no. Basically nothing actually took place. The two lead women argued. People ran up the stairs then walked back down. ▼Spoiler When what's-his-name went out to clean, the sky was much more blue then I ever saw before. He walked a good long way with no suit and destroyed lungs before pausing, then collapsing. I thought we were going to learn that the air was breathable now. If he had not stopped. If he had walked beyond the crater ridge, Silo 18 would have seen an unprotected man go out and keep going just find (even if he died 5 feet later out of camera view). That would have made such a huge impact on silo society with everyone rioting to be let out. Would have made one heck of a season ender before the final season. But no. Somehow there's some magic poison in the air that lasts centuries.

Did... we watch the same episode? There was
▼Spoiler literally a nuclear explosion at the end. Big one, even. I would list that under "things happening". What we did learn (it was hinted at before) is that the area immediately around the exit is safe. They expected her to die when reaching the tree in season 1 (because everyone does). We saw that it was safe near the other silo earlier this season because those gunshot holes didn't let anything deadly in. Now we know that it isn't just because the suit takes a while to be chewed through: the killing effect really does only kick in when walking too far from the entrance. We also learned that the voice probaly isn't an AI and that silo 1 is built for actual people. And due to the way all the organizers in the past at the end there acted suspicious, we can assume that they knew what was going to happen. So, best theory from me: They built the silos, told the world about it so that everyone would want to take a look at one. Which means they could choose who they wanted to put into them. Then, when all those people just so happened to already be inside, assuming it would just be a visit, they set off that bomb to force everyone to stay inside. Basically, a eugenics project. Only question now is whether the rest of the world really did end, or just that area. The stuff that is killing people is probably the nanite technology they used to crash those jets; anything else wouldn't have an exclusion zone like that. But yes, it is stretching the suspension of belief a bit that no one would ever try just sprinting over that hill, if only to die seeing the other side. But that guy in particular had already barely made it up those stairs.

▼Spoiler Don't think that this demonstrates that any area is safe, if it's some poison, it will have a delay. Completely different question is why it is not safe. Regarding organizers, to me looked that some of them knew, some not. Does not make a lot of sense to try to outrun a nuke intentionally. That nuke and running from the shockwave sent me right into fact checking and math mode, in short, plausible-ish, they showed that the shockwave came some minute later, what puts nuke in approx. 40-60 km distance or so. What tho is total bs that they managed to run into that bunker once the shockwave approached the berm, since it's x times faster than Usain Bolt. But in that distance it's not much more deadly than some tornado. And that brings the question what makes it not safe to go outside - to massacre planet to that level they would need many, many nukes not just one. One theory is that they went into those silos, the first 1 is controlling the rest, but there also something went wrong and they same as other silos don't even remember why they are doing what they are doing. And to me most sense would make that outside of silos is not safe not because of the fallout, but because they poison that area themselves to keep people inside for some reason. Or even a wilder theory that all this is some long running social experiment.
Anyway, the first for real interesting episode this season.

It does. They always die at the same distance. No matter how many times they go back and forth, to clean for example, no matter how long they hesitate, death only happens the moment after they cross that tree. g371 wrote:Regarding organizers, to me looked that some of them knew, some not. No, the henchpeople probably just had instructions like "make sure everyone only goes into the designated silo". But they clearly had some objectives like that that the visitors weren't supposed to know about. The guy who tackled him on that hill clearly didn't know about the bomb or he wouldn't have walked up there. He was probably just told "follow that guy and make sure he gets into the silo safely". But the organizers (CEO guy, senator lady and her personal henchman) clearly knew. g371 wrote:But in that distance it's not much more deadly than some tornado.
Then it probably was that far away. Remember that those bombs come in different sizes. Fission bombs are relatively small, but fusion ones can scale indefinitely. They mentioned 50 megaton ones, which is around the biggest size ever tested. It likely was one like that, just very far away. g371 wrote:One theory is that they went into those silos, the first 1 is controlling the rest, but there also something went wrong and they same as other silos don't even remember why they are doing what they are doing. Yeah that's what I said; but I doubt something "went wrong". They probably put the memory drug into the water on purpose pretty soon so that people would forget that they had ever lived a life on the outside. To "help" them with the trauma of suddenly being stuck down there.
Prediction for the final season:
▼Spoiler Those two actually will reunite, and it'll be through that door at the bottom, the one next to the digger. Maybe each silo has one, or maybe there's only one tunnel between 1 and 18 because he made it.

Or its all bullshit and just some experiment. What poison lasts over 100 years and would threaten people inside with poison again.

▼Spoiler The point is that if it takes a minute for the shockwave to reach you some flying tree can kill you, but you won't be cooked alive or even start to glow in the dark. Radiation will come later when that mushroom with wind and rain will fall back to the ground. So, if they wanted to show with that a catastrophic event that you need to go underground and cannot leave anymore, it's not very believable. But all that was left with a cliffhanger and will see in next episodes. Plus, I expected something more fancy than nukes, like what was happening with those fighter jets before?

▼Spoiler Will see in the next episode(s) - imo clearly confirmed is that knew the guy who sent the guard to get him. CEO etc. were on the stage last time we saw them (meaning, also would need to Usain Bolt to some silo, unless they started walking exact same moment as he left after getting that strange message). Meaning, imo, at the moment is not certain that between that mgmt/organizers are not different factions as well. Overall tho there was an impression that all that is staged to get them into silos - exact grouping by id cards rfid, facial recognition etc. And btw from here comes another cognitive dissonance - so far in silos was shown some ancient-ish tech, but here they have augmented reality, ability to do facial recognition on fly, The Pact written by some kind of "AI". On the other hand that supports that silo 1 is technologically more advanced.
