William Henry Devereaux, Jr. (Bob Odenkirk), spiritually suited to playing left field but forced by a bad hamstring to try first base, is the unlikely chairman of the English department at West Central Pennsylvania University.

Over the course of a single convoluted week, he threatens to execute a duck, has his nose slashed by a feminist poet, discovers that his secretary writes better fiction than he does, suspects his wife of having an affair with his dean, and finally confronts his philandering elderly father, the one-time king of American Literary Theory, at an abandoned amusement park.

That description + Bob Odenkirk as the lead character convinced me that the show will be great, the trailer confirmed it! smile

Gave up at episode 2. Shame as I was really looking forward to it. Misstep billing it as a comedy. I didnt come close to loling

It's Saul Goodman but, unlike Better Call Saul, there's nothing riding on anything. It drags along. I have no idea what this wants to be. Not a comedy. Just stuff happening in peoples lives we're supposed to be "entertained" by

Yep, I'm not getting this either. I'll persevere, but I just find him annoying.

2020.  Meh.

The comedy part is quite subtle at times, but very present in each episode. Still, it's a weird show, but I don't see myself giving up on it. smile

I'm liking it so far but it's definitely not for everyone. Sadly, academics aren't this funny irl.

Speaking as a curmudgeonly old fart who hates everything I'm amused by the curmudgeonly old fart who hates everything.

I'm also a curmudgeonly old fart who hates everything, but I like to think that I hate things in a more comical way than that curmudgeonly old fart does.  Probably.

2020.  Meh.
