Re: Gen V (The Boys spinoff) (2023)

*meh* Way too much teen-drama for my taste. Sure, lot of silliness, gore and sexual content to justify R rating. Dropped along EP3... nothing keeps me going here. Probably just not my setting. Strong dislike for the lead actors... no one there really carries the show. Pretty much like Wednesday.

great show - quite woke, but in good taste. Enjoyed the first three eps.

How can something be "quite woke" in "good taste"? So far all woke content in TV shows and movies is just annoying as hell to me as I hate if someone is aggressively pushing their messaging. Not talking about the occasional gay scene or so, more like... if people start fighting over pronouns, safe spaces and racial injustice more than driving the story. Usually, I can't stand it and drop the show/movie quite early. Anyway, I don't see this in this show. Quite the opposite. They drop in all the typical super woke content and make fun of it. Which in my point of view is also a bit too far off to the other side.

Re: Gen V (The Boys spinoff) (2023)

upto 3rd eps. I find my self wanting to fast forward. All the gore but  lack of talent. lacklustre. Comparing that to "Wednesday" does not hold up - to a show that is very tightly written with actors  who clearly enter into the spirit of the show with great "choreography" and camera work. "Wednesday" is of a much higher calibre, where the dialogue is more for effect than simple acting. The only amusing  thing here  is the play on being trans and even that is a damp squib

With comparing it to Wednesday I meant: Just not my setting, too much teen drama. And yes.... I did not like the lead actors in Wednesday as well.

I must have missed some of the "obvious woke messaging"... cool

I enjoyed 1x2 and 1x3 a bit less than 1x1, but I still like the show. An interesting exploration of great and 'lesser' superpowers in a young-adult context.

Well, there's the trans superhero and their struggle.

There's 2 main characters who's main powers are centered on bulimia and self-harm (cutting).

I'm not sure why people are surprised though, The Boys is highly critical of Trumpsters already, it's definitely to be expected in this show.

Cheap knockoff garbage.
Ok, I was being kind.

Re: Gen V (The Boys spinoff) (2023)

GenV is centered around Godolkin University.

The description of S01E04 includes:
"If you have any information, please contact @GodUPD."

God olkin

God as in... how these meta humans see themselves
olkin as in Ingram Olkin, known for his contributions to meta-analysis

I just found that interesting

Re: Gen V (The Boys spinoff) (2023)

1x4 was good, Tek Knight (Derek Wilson of https://next-episode.net/future-man fame) was awesome! "The WHOLE Truth"... big_smile big_smile

Oh damn, I didn't even recognize him. Very cool, Wolf was by far my favorite character in Future Man.

Loved Tek Knight too.

Re: Gen V (The Boys spinoff) (2023)

how much outrageous gore can we take to make up for the lack of actors with real prescence?

Re: Gen V (The Boys spinoff) (2023)

Yeah, this is great, probably the best spinoff I've seen.

Re: Gen V (The Boys spinoff) (2023)

Apologies, but I had to intervene and remove some of the discussion as it devolved to explaining what "woke" is or isn't.

Let's move on and stay on topic.

Re: Gen V (The Boys spinoff) (2023)

Re: Gen V (The Boys spinoff) (2023)

thanks for getting rid of that stuff, santah

also, i wonder if this revelation is gonna be the linchpin in the boys now?

Spoiler

seems like a pretty serious counter to supes

Re: Gen V (The Boys spinoff) (2023)

I'm not sure, z1rra, maybe they keep this possibility contained to this show (and remove it [in a very bloody way cool] before it can 'spread'.)

Did anyone else enjoy Soldier Boy's performance in 1x6? big_smile

Always good to see Jensen Ackles! I really hope he has a prolific career post Supernatural. He's a great action hero typecast.

Re: Gen V (The Boys spinoff) (2023)

Interesting setup for the finale.

Spoiler

Really was not sure how the psychic chick was gonna go there for a minute. Vice President Newman having the same blood powers was definitely an interesting twist. The exploding... body part earlier in the series now makes more sense in context. Newman having the virus is definitely an interesting setup for the next season of The Boys. This definitely could be the answer to Homelander. Or not given that it still was contagious. I'm definitely interested in what happened to Newman's daughter too, we saw her give her daughter the V and the daughter was in immense pain, but we don't know if she ultimately survived the V process or what powers she got if she did. The one guy having a seizure and harming everyone around him too was interesting. They did that with Professor X in the X-Men comics. A little, what happens when the most powerful psychic ever gets dementia. It's an interesting anthology to explore.
