The Winchesters is a prequel to Supernatural, which will focus on Dean and Sam Winchester's parents, John and Mary.

It wasn't awful, but not that great either.
I'll give it a few more episodes before I think about dropping it, but only because I enjoyed Supernatural

Re: The Winchesters

Really? Supernatural needed a prequel? 15 seasons, half of them they were beating a dead horse over and over again big_smile

Re: The Winchesters

It was ok, as a long time supernatural fan I'l give it a few more episodes.

I didn't really like Mary, was she supposed to be a bit unlikeable initially?

Was a bit strange.
I also thought that she wasn't a hunter either??

Re: The Winchesters

It was better than a lot of garbage on tv.

Re: The Winchesters

It felt very rushed, like it was supposed to be a longer TV movie that they had to cut quite a bit out of it to make time constraints or something.

Re: The Winchesters

Bah, that was pathetic. A cheesy mix between a bad Supernatural episode and an awful Buffy episode.

Yeah, but Supernatural was still mostly fun. Besides the last two seasons or so. Mainly due to Jensen Ackles and Mark Sheppard's performance and the odd really fun episodes like "Monster Movie", "Fan Fiction", "Baby","The French Mistake", "Yellow Fever" or "Mystery Spot"

(btw, I NEVER like Jared Padalecki as Sam or Misha Collins)

Yes, unlikeable character played by uncharismatic actress. Which also goes for John. Next to being a whimsy whiny loser. Just pathetic. I rather rewatch "In the beginning", 3 times in a row, than this one...

Well, according to the episode from Supernatural Season 4 "In the beginning" she was at least accustomed to the life style of being a hunter due to her family (especially Samual, he father) being hunters while John was... just a regular nice guy.

My very vague memory is that John wasn't a hunter until after Mary died...or do I have that wrong? So the whole thing is a retcon?

It doesn't really bother me at all, I just don't take this show that seriously, its just a bit of fun.

Winchesters feels a bit like a parody woke version of Supernatural to me, it's not horrible but nowhere near as fun and engaging as Supernatural was, with less likeable characters/actors.

Supernatural is by far the better show imo, yes it had stronger and weaker episodes/seasons and could have ended quite a bit sooner but when a show gets 15 seasons with the same actors, it must do atleast something right. Eric Kripke who created Supernatural who also did Revolution, Timeless and The Boys, isnt involved in Winchesters anymore and it shows imo.

Maybe check out the first 3 episodes of Winchesters to see if you like the genre/setting and if you do maybe check out the first 3 episodes of Supernatural to see what you like better.

I actually hadn't realized Winchesters started yet, since I'm home sick I might just do that cool

Re: The Winchesters

It's hard to believe it's the same team (or some of the same team) involved. The Winchesters is terrible.

I was a pretty big fan of Supernatural and looked forward to each episode for the full 15 years, sure it had some episodes that weren't amazing and some seasons were better than others but overall it was pretty strong.

The Winchesters is a chore to watch, 2 of the main 4 cast are just un-likeable , the individual episodes and overall story arc is just boring. I slogged through 4 episodes, it just has none of the magic the original series had.

I tried to find reviews on YouTube, the few that are out there all seem to be pretty negative but what's more telling is the overall lack of them, there is almost zero engagement or fan excitement. This show won't get a series 2.

@TheFizza, honestly skip this and watch the original series, I know 15 seasons can seem a bit daunting but don't try to binge it all, just chuck on an episode when you are bored and just use it as a slow burn. There really are quite a few absolute gems in there worth watching but you kinda need to really get to know the characters and the world to fully appreciate them.

Well, I just watched the first 3 Eps of The Winchesters and thought it seemed pretty decent... so far.

Re: The Winchesters

So I watched all the Eps out and I really had a fun time with this, it gave me LEGACIES vibes!

I will say that the only thing that seemed a little suss was that Ep 1 started the EXACT way Lovecraft Country did roll  I mean, by all means take a page from a popular series for your own but this was like the first 5 pages hmm
