Well as @inkblot said, the opinions of actors and showrunners and whatnot about political or social issues should not matter at all. On that point I also fully agree with The Critical Drinker who made some videos about that topic. These people are artists and artists have a completely different world view than us common folk. As soon as they hit a certain amount of success so that you would actually follow them on any form of social media, they are already too disconnected from reality - there are of course exceptions, like Keanu Reeves for example. So when I see actors doing or saying stupid stuff, it's just another form of (fictional) entertainment for me proteinnerd wrote:having some sort of pre warning if a particular show is just bad
That's what I use this forum for (quality and story, not pushing a narrative >> see below) Without this forum I would've skipped shows like Slow Horses, Pluribus, The Westies, etc. proteinnerd wrote:pushing a narrative you are trying to avoid?
On that topic I strongly think that, if you preemptively check if a show has anything like that or specificlally look out for it while watching a show you will more likely find something that "looks like" pushing a narrative. That is the influence of social media as well. I'd rather try out 10 shows, watch 1-2 episodes, and be left at the end with 6 good shows than eliminate 6 shows before even trying. When I watch them and think myself "that is so annoying" than I have grounds to say they are pushing a narrative. For example, Season 4 of Ted Lasso, definitely has the "pushing a narrative" included, but so far it has not limited my viewing experience.

Normally I agree that they all need to stfu about random issues, since most of them are actors exactly because they were bad at math and it is very questionable if they even fully grasp them. That said, imo, cases like Donald, Bibi, Vladimir, Potato king, Adolf, Africa dictators and alike can be an exception. Like in Donalds case even if you are a hardcore conservative, should be kinda clear that he lies to your face and steals from you. Not counting the very long list of other achievements from which USA won't recover for decades and losing wars when he specifically pinky promised you to not start them, the guy, for example, sells early an access to his (barely) Truth Social posts to Wallstreet, jfc. Why Russians cannot do much today about their circus? Because they did/said nada 20 years ago when Vladimir was wilding just like Donald today. Once a daddy spreads his sticky fingers, it's game over - and Donald basically already has taken over Republican Party, there a few are left who dare think for themselves, the rest think what daddy orders to think. So, imo, a legit exception to the rule.

Sorry, but I don't get your point - what does that have to do with the opinion of actors on such topics? I agree that those topics are important, but I still wouldn't take advice or let myself be influenced by an actor on these topics.

@WilliamDrakeMcGregor and @g371 Be careful, recently innocuous postings have vanished. Would hate to see all your hard work disappear. I am just bummed we only get 8 episodes this season. It is a crying shame. And whatever happened to the 2 hour first and last episodes? You know, go in and out with a bang.

the best thing about the USA is its very strict freedom of speech laws. https://mybellinghamnow.com/news/297792 … -offenses/ except when it gets outright crazy. words or beliefs should never be considered to hurt anyone. lies are a different story. censorship is always bad. actors and other celebrities like sports figures ARE IN MEDIA EVERYDAY. people watch movies and tv TO SEE THEIR FAVORITES. what they say matters. but i never confuse fiction and non-fiction. ( ie i will never pay for another will smith movie/show) but the quest for the $$$$ encourages censorship. even in tv show like reacher. reacher has very little propaganda for any side in it. however which i also support. this is not off topic, this is about the actors in the show, what they say and how they are viewed. but feel free to censor it. as long as you are not in washington state. I completely get what you are saying and it makes sense on the surface level. The issue is time. I work long hours, have kids, hit the gym and do martial arts. I've basically got time for 1 show per night as I fall asleep. If that 1 opportunity turns out to be wasted on a show pushing a BS agenda or is just terribly written/produced whatever, thats effectively 100% of my downtime screwed for the day. I know, I know, first world problems but it shouldn't be too much to ask for decent entertainment but apparently it is these days, almost everything is pushing an agenda.

Re: Reacher [Drama, Action]
4x04 That last scene made Reacher look kinda incompetent...
▼Spoiler I knew that the women were hiding something, but that? We have seen Reacher fight those mercenaries and know they are no joke. He didn't come out of any fight with them unharmed... And yet, these two managed to fight against four in an enclosed space and perfectly cut everyones throat??? Most unbelievable thing in the entire show...unless they have done it after the guys were already down - which I highly doubt. With established rules, if that were Reacher, this would've been pure chaos and everyone would've died in a different way and with a lot more cuts/stabwounds. Yes, we haven't "seen the other guy" but I am 99% sure they are unharmed. Furthermore, that means Reacher got fooled twice by them... the guy who can identify who is from what agency by their shoes or something...
I usually don't comment on stuff like that, but damn that jiggle (Lila running) was distracting

Yes. Yes, it was. Girl needs an hour at Victoria's Secret. It was kind of nice to know the fight in the spoiler was possible, but it just didn't sit right with me either.

Even the Reacher production team isn't immune to the power of Hollywoke and the need for the GirlBoss to easily defeat trained men twice their size/strength/stamina/power without a cut or bruise. [They haven't risen to the level of Taylor Sheridan who can tell them all to f.off if they don't want yet another top grossing TV show - then deliberately write in scenes MEANT to trigger the libtards and all it does is increase the ratings.] This show and its team & studio needs to maintain some level of "play nice with others" if they want to get other work on other productions. And we all like to pay our rent so I can't fault them for wanting to stay employed.

Okay, picture Bruce Lee if he was a woman. That dude was small, but he was so fast the cameras could not capture his full motion on The Green Hornet. Problem solved.

Except Bruce Lee was a once-in-a-generation person. Hollywoke is trying to convince the world that every woman can beat up any man, in any situtation. And we all know that's just not the case. In the real world the average 30 year old woman trapped in the elevator with the average 50-60 year old man couldn't stop him if he had bad intentions. That's just the biological difference in the two sexes. Its nothing personal against anyone: Its just science

Re: Reacher [Drama, Action]
When I said it didn't sit right with me, I meant more along the lines of ▼Spoiler what was done to Ben, what are they really up to, and that Reacher was fooled so easily - including the leukemia story. I don't doubt that women can and have been trained to fight effectively against men. And we still don't know how they fared. It sort of turned my stomach to realize the guards they hired were just cosmetic, used to manipulate Reacher and anyone else's perception of them and open to disposal. And if certain posters are *so* over-sensitive to anything not firmly in the manosphere, stop watching TV and movies and go drool over Andrew Tate or read a Mack Bolan novel or something. My god, the constant whining.

Re: Reacher [Drama, Action]
My final thought on the subject: I would've said the same thing if it was men vs. men. The setting and the result we have seen so far just don't really fit together. Hopefully they show what happened in a Flashback an we all will be the wiser....because with what we know so far, it must've been one hell of a fight (choreograpy-wise) - but then again, I will probably be too distracted to appreciate it

That would be true in some boxing match with rules. Average both don't know how to fight and outcome unknown in a survival situattion. But painting women as helpless based on physical strength is bs, I have trained with some who can break arms, legs and jaws in a split second, not counting inventions like guns and knives. Most trained man will still lose in close to 100% ceases against a trained women with a knife. Also about Reacher style gym bros there is a saying - there are no muscles behind ears. Meaning they are nowhere near most dangerous Pushing a bar in a gym helps with posing and selfies, but not a lot with fighting. I have seen a street fight ending in 3 seconds with a single high kick to the head. Absolutely irrelevant how big you are and women also can do it.

But painting women as helpless based on physical strength is bs,
To clarify: I did not say 'helpless' so please don't reframe my comment to make your point. As a US Army vet, I am very aware of how capable women can be and that's very capable. What I'm not doing is cherry-picking a random anecdotal situation of one exceptional woman against an average male. I'm keeping to the context of the show where the women and the men are on equal ground athletically speaking. I pointed out biological differences. I know that's a touchy subject in today's world of rampant mental illness, but biological reality none the less. Just ask #1 women's tennis player about getting her butt kicked by #203 men's player The most notable instance was the 1998 Australian Open, where Serena Williams and her sister Venus Williams claimed they could beat any male player ranked outside the top 200. Karsten Braasch, then ranked World No. 203, accepted the challenge and defeated Serena 6-1 and Venus 6-2 in straight sets.
What kind of brag is it to start out with having to qualify it as "outside of the top 200"? That's a pro athlete knowing the VAST difference between male and female biology in athletics. And fighting is athletics. or the #1 women's soccer team (the Matildas) getting destroyed by an under-16 boys weekend club - on two different occassions. The Matildas suffered a highly publicized 7-0 defeat to the Newcastle Jets Under-15 boys team in a friendly match on May 23, 2016, during their preparation for the Rio Olympics. The Matildas have faced similar challenges before, including a 4-1 loss to the Colorado Rapids U15s in 2019.
In the context of this show those two woman, and those bad guys are on equal terms, effectively speaking and for the point of this conversation. All are well trained, combat experienced, doing hand to hand with knives. In that setting we are not talking about trained women against average men. We are talking about peers on equal footing. So all the talk in the world about "I've seen women do blah blah" is just yelling into the wind because we have ALL seen extra-ordinary people of all ages and both genders. That argument doesn't hold water here because we're talking about peers. So now it comes down to (1) luck and (2) biology. Like it or not when we see those two women, who's condition we don't yet know - reality says they should at best be near to death. 2 women, 6 dead men in the room. That's the two body guards and 4 dead attackers. So in a 4:2 death match they're severely out-gunned even though they aren't helpless, are trained and so on. Each woman fighting one male peer stands a chance, but at 2:1 each - at least one is going to be bleeding to death when they find her (the old lady royal protector) the hot princess (they called her "the princess" on the phone) should be nearly there as well but for TV land will be barely hurt at the start of the episode and will have shrugged it of by the end of the episode. They only way they can make that near to making sense is it started out as 4:4. If we choreograph this scene:
The guards weren't killed early, by surprise leaving it 4:2. Instead they fight and do damage. If they flashback the fight they have to make it 2:4 where the women stay behind the men DOING THEIR JOB of protecting… the body guards inflict some significant damage early before getting killed as they should being outnumbered 2:1. Maybe they kill a couple attackers and wound the other two or some combination of equal damage. then the two women are fighting depleted numbers and health of attackers. That gives them a realistic chance.
That could work.

"but for TV land will be barely hurt at the start of the episode and will have shrugged it of by the end of the episode." Can't argue with that. They do that for so many characters in so many shows. And don't forget, one woman will have a shallow cut on her cheekbone. Are we sure The Jiggler is the princess? And I can't help feeling something is off with both women apparently being competent with the karambit. BTW, if anyone's interested in the featured songs, Tunefind has degraded in quality, i.e. not all the songs are listed anymore, even from the previous seasons. Seekertune still has them all.

Re: Reacher [Drama, Action]
> Are we sure The Jiggler is the princess? I think it follows the tropes. The older woman would have been her protector since childhood. But since the princess is progressive she insisted her guard teach her to fight. And thus she and Reacher can never have more than just the casual flings (I predict 1 more) since she's got to go back home to stop a war, or free her people, or take her place on the throne… whichever of the 3 plans they pick for the stereotype. Seekertune. Thanks for that!

Agreed, if it was the older woman they would've called her "the queen" probably.

Reacher and other male thugs are trained to use muscle and brawn.. they often lack speed. Great against similar combatants if you are Reacher's size. A highly trained female with much more speed, handling a knife that can kill in an instance... dangerous.

Lmao. I've been learning/teaching martial arts for over 30 years. Women are not in any way faster or maneuverable than men. If you remember at their best Venus and Serena Williams claimed they could beat any man outside rank 200. Karsten Brassch who was ranked 203 beat the brakes off of both of them back in 1999, and both women admitted that they couldn't be competitive or even rank in men's tennis after that match. Never once in 30 years have I faced a woman who was anywhere close to my physical capability, and I'll tell you this too. Big dudes who are trained fighters are a lot faster than you'd think. I doubt anyone would call Mike Tyson slow when he was competitive. I mean what moves you if not muscle? Also I have my black belt in Karate (original art), black armband in Muy Thai, and black in Judo. I've also cross trained in... dozens of other arts. What art exactly teaches you to use muscle and brawn alone, without utilizing speed, cause... I've got nothing. I think you're thinking of whatever Hollywood bullshit you've been consuming, or the hilariously stupid UFC matches with all their rules.

Why didn't they bring guns? They used guns in almost every other scenario so far and surely mercenaries can get theirs hands on a silencer? Especially since Reacher could've been with the two of them. P.S. We are sticking with that nickname, right?

It did seem a little weird. A suppressor still makes a sound, but would that area of Philly care? Did they already know Reacher was not/would not be there? If she really is revealed as a princess, we should be more respectful. Princess Jiggles. That might also work for a Corgi. I'm losing track of all the groups chasing the card.

Intention. Guns are for killing. If their intent is to kidnap for political or ransom reasons then its a different story: You can wound in the process of subduing/capturing and deal with the wounds once you have the subject in the back of a laundry van. If we follow the plot thread of Princess Jigglesome - then we can reasonably guess those guys want her as a political pawn to force her country into releasing some of their people being held, frozen funds, weapons, whatever. You can't use a dead princess for leverage. If you just want to kill them there are a dozen easier, quieter ways ranging from poison to gases.
