Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]

Would go with 4/10 Overkill, and I worry about the possible complications of diving in too deep. But at least there's pretty lights, even if little variation.

102 was interesting, but I think this show needs to be marathoned all at once.  Really enjoying the world building though.

Yeah, 1x2 felt a bit anemic... but yes, the set design was lovely!

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]

I don't want to give a final verdict on it this early in - I feel that despite some of the lackluster elements it still satisfies my thirst for sci-fi that the Halo games have. I would say the show is a solid 5.5/10 so far.

One thing that is bothering me is the Kwan-Ha. Why are all shows fucking focused on a braindead 0 IQ main/support characters?

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]

Yeah, the show could have been better... I'm not sure if the cast is the issue, or if they gave suboptimal roles/ characters to a good cast. (You can only really know if you saw the same folks in different roles.)

I still give it a 7/10.

That's what I would give it too

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]

I know nothing of Halo, but i found this very watchable, the only thing I dont like and find extremely boring is the Asian girl resistance crap. I'm a sucker for sci fi and AI etc so the rest is right up my alley, it also help they casted Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief as he was awesome in American Gods. And from my point of view doing awesome in Halo as well so far.

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]

I took a look on IMDB and the show is bombarded with negative reviews. I dont get it really, I find the show enjoyable and would give it a solid 8/10 so far with one episode left.

The only thing that still bothers me is the side story, which is neither interesting or fun to watch. I hoped the whole point of episode 7 was to make the annoying Asian lady grow and learn from her mistakes and prejudice, but it didn't seem to do anything really...

Episode 8 was great tho, a bit predictable but I couldn't care less tbh, still fun to watch it unfold. I like when characters can change view points as they gain new information from what they experience. If anything I would like if they stretched out the episode so we got one more before the showdown, so we could see even more character development.

Looking forward to the last episode.

Well, I kind of dropped it. I found Episode 1 mildly entertaining but then the next episodes felt like cheesy and boring.  I kept on going through episode 6 where I finally gave up. Just couldn't bring up the attention to another "blablabla" of mystic desert people.

Also, none of the actors really carry the show and neither parts of the story are really something which keeps me interested.

Maybe, I give ep7 and 8 a go on the next transatlantic when I ran out of really good stuff to catch up on.

So, I mean it is alright. But nothing where I'm biting my nails for the next episode. But actually those days with shows like Prison Break or 24 are long gone anyway.

I just started rewatching Fringe. That is true entertainment with an awesome cast (John Noble as Walter/Walternate is just out of this universe wink good) which manages to keep me engaged and enjoy almost every single episode and make me want to leanr more and more about the unfolding story arc.

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]

My only real gripe with the show is that for someone that never removes their helmet (from what I have seen), he is doing it a lot.

DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom".

I also wanted to give it a 8/10, but I can only give it a 7/10. I'm grateful for every good sci-fi show out there, but Halo lacks that 'special something' that would make it a great show.

Thanks for mentioning Fringe, it was a great show I'd forgotten. I'll definitely start re-watching it as well smile

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]

I'd give it 3/10, Masterchief is supposed to kill his enemies, not sleep with them.

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]

Got bored and dropped it at episode 5 or 6 or something, actually, was bored of it long before that (like episode 2) but kept giving it more chances cause I used to be such a big fan of the game. It didn't even bother me that he took off his helmet, that was probably the least of the shows offences.

Apart from the first 5 minutes of episode 1, this was not Halo.

Honestly, I'd give this a 3/10

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]

Awesome.

Best thing i've seen in ages.

Btw, never played Halo. It was promised for the PC initially, but went 'elsewhere'. I never bothered with it after that.

I thought that was sarcasm at first. wink

I wish the show had used more of its potential, but I will tune in again for season 2. smile

Never played Halo but like the show.

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]

I liked it and will check out S2 as well. I haven't played Halo since Combat Evolved on the original Xbox. No complaints, no comparisons, no fucks given. big_smile

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]

I have a theory.

I know people who read 'The Wheel of Time' books, and didn't like the TV adaptation. (I hadn't read them and loved it).

In the same vein, perhaps if you had prior knowledge, and therefore a pre-defined vision of what 'Halo' should be, you didn't like it?

Could it be for those of us who didn't play Halo, and had no pre-defined vision, it was 'more' enjoyable?

Spoiler

PS. If Makee is realy dead, i won't be a happy bunny.

That might partially explain it. But I didn't play Halo and can only give it a 7/10. Everything looked really good, but the story-telling and acting could have been better IMHO.

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]

For me, it's really damn near impossible to really do books or game series justice when it comes to making them into series or films. I always view a show as a separate story loosely based on a novel or game and try to judge it on its own merits.

Heck, that's my approach when it comes to the same television franchise series. I never had any problems separating the NuTrek films and the new Trek series' from the classics, and judging them on their own merits, even though they're one and the same from a franchise standpoint. Probably a few of the reasons why I enjoy watching them, with the exception of Discovery, but that's another topic. tongue

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]

... so i re-watched S01 and find it still amazing, in my personal rating its a 4.5★

But now i started S02 and the first two episodes play in an entire different league ... its barely a 3.5★, E01 was more of a 3★...
Script, logic, drama, dialogues ... all seemed scrambled down into uneventful and somewhat annoying viewing experience, well i hope it gets better!
So far really disappointing... had extreme potential - i wonder  what changed!?

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]

I just finished season 1 and atleast  you are given lots and lots of monsters/aliens. You get your monies worth, unlike those other recent scifi shows "Invasion" and "Monarch:legacy of monster show" which by comparison come across as cheapo skinflint shows on low budgets. I just hope we eventually are told what the ring is ( unlike Stargate Universe where we are never told what the deep secret  embedded in the universe the ship was designed to investigate)

Re: Halo [Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi]

Yes, the alien action is great here, but https://next-episode.net/invasion-2021 beats this show - and https://next-episode.net/monarch-legacy-of-monsters - when it comes to suspense and acting IMHO. smile
