I watched until the first puppet appeared then I switched off. I find myself doing this more and more these days with this show. I love the characters but why can they not make a serious Star Trek show? They've shown they have the capability, some of the earlier episodes were amazingly well scripted and acted, but it's becoming more of a comedy show now, almost like it's aimed at children.

Sadly, I've removed this from my watch list. Goodbye Captain Pike, I will miss your ever increasing quiff!

Sorry to loose you.

could we have a numbers of people ( here) watching count on each show? would bve useful and fun to see some shows decrease ?

Likewise, I haven't removed it from my list yet as I've just looked at the synopsis for the future episodes and a couple look like they'll be OK...only time will tell

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

why can they not make a serious Star Trek show?

Because they literally *can't*.  The writers room is filled with former Buffy & Angel writers all trying to write like Joss Whedon.  They lack the understanding of Trek to continue to write good Trek.  They don't have the background.  Some admit they never liked Trek in the first place.  They have fully exhausted their depth of knowledge about the franchise.  They *can't* do it now because they lack the skill, talent, understanding and love of the show.

These shows are just shows. I don't put any money in them and use them as an escape from reality. I'm not a hardcore fan of any ip. It was funny, that's it.

Some people, not naming any names, need to get the stick of their ass and just enjoy life.

Some people enjoy a franchise with a history of world building and consistent in universe logic that dates back 60 years.

If you want to write random "funny" stories don't use a pre existing franchise to do it and ruin it's lore and legacy.  Create and build your own new, unique IP.

They could literally make a show about anything they wanted. The reason they don't is they don't have the talent to write an intelligent exploration of any theme deeper than orange man bad,  immigration allegories or blatant rip offs of other TV series and they know, nobody would watch it.

A lot of people would be able to remove the sticks up their asses if virtually every franchise hadn't been co-opted by talentless, far left agenda driven hacks. Star Trek, Star Wars, The Terminator, Dr Who, Marvel, DC, Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones just to name a few.

I mean, we are literally at the point now, if I actually like a franchise, I actively avoid new productions so it doesn't spoil my love for the original.

By the way, I enjoy plenty of things in life, just not the crap that Hollywood has been shiteing out for the past 6-7 years.

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

And dont forget that if the characters are written well, people tend to like them and get invested in them.

Then you have to take into account the time one invests  in watching the series. To see it ruined tends to anger people. Season 1 and 2 were really good, but season 4 is just so bad even my poop bag for the dog refuses to pick it up.

That's the thing. It started really good. Season 3 was okay. Season 4, so far... not so much. I want to finish it, because I'm in full sunk-cost-fallacy mode here, but I've had less interest to watch each show than the one before. The fourth I grudgingly watched, but I'm not sure I'll ever get to the fifth or just permanently drop the whole thing. My time may be better spent doing something productive... like watching paint dry or something. tongue

That being said, of all the simps and fandoms out there in TV land, the Trekkies are really the most obnoxious of the them all. The amount of hate they can level against anything they personally deem "not Trek enough" (which, being a personal opinion, varies wildly between specimens) is astonishing. roll

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Right at the start of this season I made the decision to treat each episode as a "parody" and just enjoy it for what it is, light entertainment. So far they've succeeded admirably. Don't take this as a "oh what a wonderful season" comment because I can assure you it isn't, just lose a few brain cells, waste an hour of your life; you'll love it.
I suspect season 5,

▼Spoiler

being the last before the whole ST thing goes full circle (TOS),

will be a bit more ST worthy SciFi and much less of the Fantasy aspect like star wars and everything else Disney has a hand in...one can live in hope

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Speaking of parody...this would be the perfect opportunity for Seth McFarlane to make Season 4 of the The Orville the serious show out of them two.

That would be hilarious smile

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

first off,
star trek is not serious sci-fi, never has been...
gods? magic? tribbles? the ability to create new tech during an emergency???

that is not serious. which is fine.
even a puppet show is not a deal breaker...

but a certain level of writing and world building respect is expected
of a 50+year franchise.

MacDonalds would not put frootloops on its burgers.
( ok maybe they would, but burger king would not)
and neither should star trek.
( star wars adding force gods, space whales, magic/spirit animals and other crap really damaged that IP)

people have a right to complain about products
but if you are thinking MacDonalds is fine dining
don't look up while climbing the ladder of evolution.

( if i wanted hacky writing and silliness i would have( gotten stoned) watched past season one of ORVILLE)

you could rip off almost any half assed short story from the pulp days of SCI-FI (1960-1990) and have a 100x better story
then any we have gotten lately.
S04E01 for all its faults so far is the best episode of this season. i expected better then it by now.

and the first organizations where women could lead men

( star trek fans takes it self far more seriously then just about any other franchise, except maybe the expanse)
i understand how the quote features work and use them when i wish to direct something at somebody.

Shoot, I was so hoping for a well thought out dissertation on how puppets are on brand for what it means to be a show about Strange New Worlds, and that dreams about puppets can help the Vulcan mind reconnect with their inner child and get out of the logical mind to reinterpret their world from a fresh perspective, which is what 4x5 was about, but no, you just think it's funny and then took a shot at everyone else who thought it wasn't funny "needs to get the stick of their ass and just enjoy life."  Not really sure what that means.  I think people are allowed to dislike episodes when their standard isn't being met, as much as they're allowed to enjoy episodes that meet that standard, so no judgment for enjoying the humour, I just thought they didn't land the premise, was too stupid to be funny, makes a mockery of Star Trek, and depreciates the value of the IP.

I'm a simple guy, I don't think things that complicated. I don't give a damn if one thinks the IP's value goes down in their mind. Everyone is allowed to have an opinnion. My opinnion is that if these things make people angry, they need to re-evaluate things in their life.

That's why I don't usually comment and if a see a wall of text with no punctuation or coherence, I skip it.

This is a weird attitude imo. Try replacing this with any other scenario where you're paying for something e.g. "Next time you go to a restaurant and you get served shit, if it makes you angry just reevaluate things in your life". "Yeah that healthcare didn't quite fix the issue, if you're angry you should probably just reevaluate your life.

You wouldn't accept this line of reasoning in any other aspect of life or at least I wouldn't.

The point of this whole thing is that viewers who complain have not paid anything for the production of the shows. Paying for streaming does not count.
