"DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU THINK."

From an alternate universe Naomi is sent to an Earth without heroes for safety, there she is adopted by Greg McDuffie and his wife. Living a fairly ordinary life in her hometown, until one day when Superman crashed through the center of town in battle leading his biggest fan, Naomi, to investigate only to learn of another odd incident that happened on the day she was adopted. Naomi begins to question whether her origin is connected to the battle the town witnessed...

  • Naomi McDuffie - a confident popular comic book-loving teenager

  • Zumbado - the shady owner of a local car lot

  • Dee - a local tattoo store owner (and Thanagarian?)

  • Annabelle - Naomi's best friend forever

  • Jennifer McDuffie - Naomi's adoptive mother who is a linguist

  • Nathan - Naomi's jock ex-boyfriend

  • Lourdes - a comic book enthusiast who works in a vintage collectibles shop and a friend of Naomi

  • Anthony - a townie in Port Oswego and friend to Naomi

  • Jacob - Annabelle's loyal boyfriend

  • Greg McDuffie - Naomi's adoptive father and an active duty military officer

  • Akira - a mysterious woman who may have helped Naomi's parents long ago

This live-action television series, based on the DC comics character Naomi/Powerhouse was development by The CW and adapted for television by Ava DuVernay (Sundance Film Festival & Film Independent Spirit Award winner) & Jill Blankenship (Arrow & The Last Ship). In contrast to the source material Naomi is depicted as a Superman fangirl, which may be a nod to fan base which has supported the CWDCU since it's inception. With the series set in the "real world" where the DC Universe is just fiction it is sure to eventually be rife with type of irreverent meta humor the Arrowverse has become synonymous with, all while Naomi slowly gets drawn to another Earth, where the Arrowverse is all too real, while she explores her superpowers.

Re: Naomi (2022)

I really enjoyed the first Ep, which seemed very CW by-way-of the Disney Channel wink

Incidentally the comics are not very good, which is why I was pleasantly surprised to have enjoyed the first Ep.

Re: Naomi (2022)

I thought it was really awful. Dorky writers trying to write hip is even more painful when they're trying to do it with teenagers and this seemed especially try-hard. Hopefully it'll settle into something half entertaining but starting out at near current Flash level doesn't bode well, especially as there's practically nil to draw material and characters from.

Re: Naomi (2022)

I had added this show to my list when I first heard about it, but it seems my skepticism - because CW - was justified. Its IMDb rating is really bad. hmm

You do you but I never trust ratings until 3-4 episodes are out... I mean imagine judging Parks & Rec based on the first episode?!?! Anyway, I'm gonna stick in there, for now cool

Re: Naomi (2022)

Ok, please report back after ep 3 or 4. smile

7

Re: Naomi (2022)

On a different note - is there a good CW show? All I can recall are decent ones (1-2 seasons) and then garbage (for the additional 4 - 8 seasons or so big_smile).

Re: Naomi (2022)

DC on CW or CW in general? Stargirl is the closest to good of the DC ones. It fell off after moving to CW but I think that was more an Eclipso as villain issue than the move itself. Hopeful for s3.
Outside of DC Legacies is the only CW show I watch. It has its ups and downs but is better than the DC stuff for the most part. I held on to the end of the 100. Same deal with it, ups and downs but > CWDC.

OMG I love LEGENDS... Though I only got into it during lockdown because I originally checked it out in S1 when it was on and it was terrible... but IMO it seems from Season 3 on, it's freakin' FANTASTIC!

Aside from that I watch Flash (which is not very good), Stargirl (which has been fun, so far), Superman & Lois (which is great, so far) and (as discussed) Naomi.

R.I.P. Black Lightning

Re: Naomi (2022)

Ep. 2 was much better, still not good but at least out of the 'kill it with fire' category for now.

Haha... I was just about to post that Ep 2 was still pretty slow but had a lot more going on, hopefully this slow build has a good focus which can carry us through as Naomi does the Barry Alan 'testing the limits and applications of powers'... I just hope that journey doesn't become the centerpiece of every season, like it is with the Flash tongue

Re: Naomi (2022)

Fell asleep during first ep., will check what are the supposed superpowers of the skateboard girl and bye, it's not watchable. Maybe for 10 year old girls who like skateboarding smile

nice skateboarding video is that her superpower? going to do a Stargirl on it like Stargirl does with her staff? Otherwise the show seems humourless. I really found it hard to make any sense of the show from the first eps, I played it at fast was still bored. If they are going to do a slow burn pilot they need to release  2 or 3 at the start so avoid a turn off?

Re: Naomi (2022)

Skimmed through ep. 2, that Kaci Walfall feels a good actress. But show is a pure trash. Best of luck for her to be cast in non woke garbage, turns out she is also in The Equalizer big_smile

I think she would be good in Stargirl

Re: Naomi (2022)

I am starting to think this show will go the way of Invasion where we never really see naomi come into her glory and is all about her wondering about it....

18

Re: Naomi (2022)

is any one still watching this? seems a 2nd rate show at best.

19

Re: Naomi (2022)

Yeah, it's lame. Too few eps to inspire Flash-like rage yet at least.

20

Re: Naomi (2022)

OK, starting to be rageworthy.

Spoiler

Wait, Earth 29 isn't even in this universe? Who'd have ever guessed? Glad we got some expert scientific knowledge on that one, especially as supposed-Superman-expert Naomi has somehow not come across anything about the numbered Earths despite not being able to read any 6 random DC books from the last 40 years without knowing about them.

I am gone. back to earth 1

Re: Naomi (2022)

Things eventually happened, but nothing particularly interesting,

Spoiler

she's a Mary-Sue

mostly the usual CW tripe, and fortunately too late to get it a second season despite unresolved ending. With 3 of these shows ending and only Gotham Knights to replace them I'm hoping they'll keep them down to a manageable level.
