Re: Peacemaker

Episode 04...another good episode smile

The backstory is flawed but at least they tried...hopefully they explain some more and clear out those flaws !
Outro song was perfect, have to retract my previous statement.

Spoiler

Now all they need to explain is how they keypad "activated" the portal. After all the energy pulse of the activation is what put it on A.R.G.U.S. radar.

If they keypad isn't part of the portal, then how did they work together? - especially since there is a keypad on the inside of the portal as well.

Also, here we saw the portal to be constantly open but before, whenever he opened it, it actually unfolded - so there has to be more to it.

Edit: @nightcrow - FYI: just noticed this, but for people who use Dark Mode on the page your signature looks broken - is the background transparent? - with the black letters you can't see the text.

Re: Peacemaker

2x4 - Kind of a transitional episode, and @WDM, yes, the plot holes make it difficult to shut brain off and watch, like....

Spoiler

...they don't explain why ARGUS can't also pick up the energy signal when Peacemaker transferred the portal to the cabin.  If they picked it up at the house, they can pick it up everywhere Peacemaker transfers it.  Every episode is just silly nonsense.

Re: Peacemaker

This show is so ridiculous and entertaining, I really don't care if there are plot holes or it doesn't mesh with the new DC universe.

Switch brain off....enjoy

I believe James Gunn is capable of meshing it all together with the new DC universe and it will all make some sense in the end.

Episode 6...I did not think they would really

Spoiler

mess up the portal?

Now they need a device from Lex Luthor to find the portal?? Then how did they notice it before, what was the red blip on their surveillance?

And come one...Luthor destroyed half of Metropolis and Flag makes a deal with him? Maybe if he weren't directly involved in the incident but Luthor basically pulled one over on Flag in that movie...

Its interesting that they portray the "other" universe with its particular beliefs as a happy, safe, clean, friendly basically an idilic society.

Of course like,

Spoiler

James Gunn created a racist nazi dimension, to hang a lantern on racial tension I guess, and like Nightcrow said, other than being racist, it's happy, safe, clean, friendly and an idyllic society, but it does make one wonder what "missions" Peacemaker and his brother and dad were really doing... sad

Also, mrverene, where for art thou?

Re: Peacemaker

Ok, read a little about this show then jumped in, only one episode so far but I'm liking it!
The only other DC I've watched is Batman.
Do I need to watch anything else, or can I just carry on from here?
The little catch-up at the beginning made sense, will that be enough or would I benefit from watching The Justice league?
The music, holy shit, I went through a phase in the early 90's listening to some of those exact tracks!

I would say you don't need to watch anything else before you continue, it'll make enough sense, you'll just miss some references.

I find it tiring that they try to link everything together, feels a bit forced at times.

For James Gunn's DC Universe, the timeline so far is:
01. The Suicide Squad
02. Peacemaker Season 1
03. Creature Commandos
04. Superman (2025)
05. Peacemaker Season 2

But I think you can watch everything independent of each other and it won't effect your experience if you don't.

If we talking the "old" DC cinematic universe, it's only movies (at least I think that is). Here I would suggest Man of Steel, the first Suicide Squad movie and Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

With TV shows, only Harley Quinn comes to mind, which is a great watch as well.

Re: Peacemaker

Episode 7...episodes keep getting shorter sad

But it was a big one indeed, and not at all what I was expecting would happen. Mixed feelings about this one - but still, well done.

Spoiler

I thought it was going to be just an entire episode of bullets flying around, Peacemaker-crew killing Nazis. But then it got so much more emotional - which is the common theme of the season ofc but still...the ending in the other world, uff.

I really liked that his father and brother were not "extremists" in this world. His father's speech was awesome about basically "you can't choose were you get born into".

Vigilante killing Auggie I get - that's just like him. But everyone jumping and stabbing Keith felt off. Restrain, yes, but kill? - they know he is Peacemakers brother...:(

I kinda hope the two Vigilante switched places and nobody notices until the end of the season smile

I also hope that wasn't the end of Lex Luthor's involvement, otherwise this would've been pointless.
But to be honest, my guess is that they only brought him in to have him being released at the end of the season to set up for the next DC movie or something like that.

Re: Peacemaker

ep 8 and its season over now? That one felt like about 4 episodes spliced into one by a drunk editor. All over the shop.

Long soppy stretches (57 min ep, about half of which felt like hair metal laughing stock duo NELSON playing live) then brief music montages where a hell of a lot happened.

The

Spoiler

portal dimensions fuckery was totally brilliant though.

Re: Peacemaker

2x8 was probably my least favorite episode of the show - it at least was my least favorite episode of the season.

I liked the first season more than the second, let's see what renewal news the future brings...

74

Re: Peacemaker

Season 2 final.

Well the positive things first...the title song finally grew on me smile
Economos became my favorite character of the season.
And we get to see the "backstory" which wasn't as big as I was expecting but still something.

Everything else...well I said it before, a season of "self-discovery"...the theme itself is none of my favorites and brought the overall expectation for this season way down from Season 1.

The episode would've been ok, if there actually would be a Season 3 but apparently that is not the plan.
With that in mind this episode was basically just a prolog for the next thing to come in the DCU...which is not OK.

6/10 for the Season.

Spoiler

Prison planet...isn't that the same schtick we saw in Superman (2025) with Luthors pocket dimension or whatever...feels lame.

Adebayo just posting Bail....didn't they make a whole point out of it that Peacemaker needs to be officially logged in the system for anyone to post bail?! - why the F would Senior do that... doesn't make any sense at all that he can have visitors and can get out on bail.

So what exactly is their company going to do? I was thinking they are going to become some kind of vigilante team or something...but office space?

Re: Peacemaker

I read IGN and sometimes other sites for the shows I watch but never comment, even though I do often read the comments. This is probably the first time I've actually written about something I've watched. Why? Because I'm mildly emotional and this community seems pretty okay.

I... feel lied to. Did Gunn tell me this was going to be a standalone story with only mild references to a universe I, as of yet, have no reason to care about? No, he didn't. But Peacemaker season 1 and everything but the end of S2 made me feel that way. Please don't tell me I'm the dick. Nobody is the dick. I'm just venting. 15 episodes of these two seasons were great. Fun, interesting, deep-enough characters and fun, interesting, deep-enough sci-fi, political, action shenanigans.

But that last episode? Come on. I wanted them to do something cool. I wanted them to wrap up waaay more of the story, beyond one major relationship and a less seen one. Just, what?? Why did Gunn suddenly nuke his own show to do conceptual world-building? Haven't we seen a million useless building moments from other shows and movies? I was led, perhaps by myself, to believe Gunn wasn't doing that to us with this show. I believed we were being shown a cool story, which would end.

It did not.

Thank you for reading.
