Set in Bath, two feature-length films pair the wildly ambitious DCI McDonald with the shy, modest DS Dodds. While McDonald has transferred from the mean streets of South London to leap up the career ladder, Dodds has happily languished on the shelf for most of his working life. McDonald is a tough, driven, battering ram of a cop who cracks cases through sheer force of will; Dodds - the tortoise to her hare - is quiet, unassuming and enigmatic. But thrust back into frontline action for the first time in a decade, he discovers a hidden talent for deciphering puzzles.
Two contemporary Britons, seemingly with nothing in common, thrown together, boss McDonald and loyal sidekick Dodds forge a rumbustious, entertaining and ultimately - give or take a few setbacks - effective partnership.

Re: McDonald & Dodds

It’s a detective cop show from the city of Bath uk. An older shy quirky detective and a plunky young detective are teamed up. It’s funny and they solve mysteries. It’s 1.5 hrs long as lots of British show are

I am wrong not a new episode.

Re: McDonald & Dodds

I hadn't heard of this program prior to seeing your post.  I got about a third way through s1e1 last night before dozing off... only because I was past my limit after a long day.

I'm looking forward to finishing the episode and continuing through the second episode (which also is the season finale) then continuing on to watch the 2 aired episodes of season 2, and then whenever ep 3 airs.

I like that Dodds, he's the underdog who shouldn't be underestimated.

It's an enjoyable show, nice dynamics.  Thanks for bringing it to my/our attention!

I used to live in Bath, a long time ago.  Lovely place

DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom".

It seems to be on Amazon.  Free 7 day trial Brit Box and I'm pretty sure it's a cancel anytime deal. (Edit - I probably shouldn't assume everyone has Amazon Prime to begin with, might be a crucial factor.)

Re: McDonald & Dodds

McDonald & Dodds began filming season 3 in October.  Hopefully we'll be able to start watching it in the not-too distant future.

I was just ragging through the programs I had on my watchlist.  You'd be amazed how many shows I couldn't remember anything about.  Not the case with this one.  I instantly remembered the program and it's two main characters.

Edit - This is about season 3, not episode, 3 of season 2. Season 3 will have 4 episodes.  Each season so far has gotten an episode more than the previous season had; so 2, 3, and 4.

Season three will see the detective duo return to Bath for four standalone films, but what will they be about? The synopsis for the first film reads: "A young woman is found dead sitting in a deckchair in broad daylight in one of Bath’s most beautiful and populated parks. Why did this woman die with a smile on her face?" Intriguing!

That's good news on McDonald & Dodds.  Enjoyable wee programme.

Re: McDonald & Dodds

Maybe I meant to say episode 3 of season 2?

Anyway, it will be airing tomorrow.

Episode 3    The War of the Rose    Sun Apr 10, 2022

If it hadn't been for Stevojasmithy (OP) it might not ever have been on my radar and it is such an enjoyable show.

@lighton, doesn't this thread belong in tv show discussions?  I only just now noticed it is parked in general discussions.

Here's for the OP you can just copy/paste it in:

Well, the date for episode 3 has changed to "unknown".

Re: McDonald & Dodds

Season 3, episode 1, premieres tomorrow.  Something to look forward to.

Re: McDonald & Dodds

Two excellent episodes have aired.  I'd check it out!

Re: McDonald & Dodds

groan more cops and robbers. The UK Daily Telegraph recently did an article on how  many crimes are unsolved, you could put your postcode in and you would get the data for burglarys, cycle theft, robbery, personal theft incl pickpocketing and the data is pretty damning eg

Lambeth London UNSOLVED CRIMES- Robbery 93%, Burglary 93%, Cycle theft 98%, Personal theft 99%, These numbers were similar all around the UK

The Met Police recently did a promotion video  that showed them doing all sort of exciting things that belies the truth of their inactivty, or maybe it was truthful ie they are not here to solve mundane crimes that affect most of us that we care about

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKU4WwBItCY

So pass on more of this false pap from the media makers.  The only time I see cops in London are out side Embassies or screaming around with sirens blasting ( no doubt wanting to get back to base to sign off their shift).

There was a recent example of a burglary in the UK where the lady found the burlgar was laying on her couch stoned out of his mind. The Lady phoned the cops and they suggested she asked him nicely to leave the property, they were not going to visit.

ps if you want to see how it used to be/should be watch the very old film "The Blue Lamp"

Re: McDonald & Dodds

Yes, it's yet another murder mystery series. It doesn't mean it's rubbish, it's a good pommy show with just the right amount of humour, likeable main characters and a plot that's not as predictable as most shows in this genre.

Re: McDonald & Dodds

merc, I don't watch reality tv.  Never cared for it.  I enjoy this show, just like I (really enjoy) Death in Paradise.  It's the characters and the drama.  It's fiction.

Anyway, sorry you feel the way you do about it but then again it's ok.

Re: McDonald & Dodds

Can anyone explain the difference between season 2 episode 3 and season 3 episode 3. Are they in fact not the exact same thing?

To much time on my hand

Re: McDonald & Dodds

They are.  No idea what they are doing. smile

Re: McDonald & Dodds

I noticed that too, at first I thought I was losing my mind lol.

Re: McDonald & Dodds

If you're a fan of British Whodunnits, you'll be very pleased with this show.  The main characters mesh well, the plots are very good and there's a lot of quick banter among the characters. The Brokenwood Mysteries is very light and airy with quirky humor.  I love the show.
