Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

well the season is over with probably the best eps of the lot.

Spoiler

I liked how Empire midday snuffed out all empire dawn's girlfriend relatives singling out all the various connections with the wave of a wrist. Then when midday and dusk empire are fighting the robot snaps dawns neck. , cold hearted bitch. As for Gaal well we know she had to turn up again and I dont think she appreciated meeting her daughter wondering when she had had the fun of "doing it"

any way have to wait another year now?

Lovely season finale.

Spoiler

Curious to see what the implications of the gene editing will be in season 2. Could get bloody, but at least interesting! smile

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

110.  A bit of a let down.  I wish I cared but I don't.  Way too much screen time was wasted on Sal and Hugo's pointless romance.  The deflationary approach to episodes is predictable and obvious, and leaves little suspense.  Special effects and set design were beautiful though, and like I said in my first post, "all that dirty Apple money will make good wall art out of Foundation."

For whatever it's worth,  I think the show is awesome and a Season 2 can't come soon enough.  smile
Pretty sure I gave 9/10 @ IMDb.

I'm curious, did your projected story line re. Gaal and Salvor play out as hunched?   I think it was becoming clearer the last 3rd of the season, but that predictability bothered me not. The full circle moment was still satisfying, for me anyhow.

Only partially. smile I don't mind predictability in a show as long as not too much is easy to guess.

https://next-episode.net/the-magicians was a great example for low predictability. cool

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

Enjoyable so far....for the most part. The timelines to me, are rather confusing. Lee Pace is excellent.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

This is the kinda show that gets a 9/10 or even full 10/10 from me.

Watched through all eps at least 3 times now and am considering a 4th. Personally, I like the fact that the story is on 2 separate periods of time, because on watching through again, everything makes so much more sense. Rewatching knowing which characters belong when was rewarding. Personally I tend to like shows that don't just hand you the story and expect you to roll with it.

I've also read these books, and while I didn't love them, I did get pretty immersed in the ideas of those books. To those saying this show 'worships at the books altar', LMAO! Every character would be an old white dude who sits around smoking "vegan tobacco" if that were the case. The Sherriff, would have said "violence is for the stupid" instead of her dad saying it, and the whole situation would have been solved by talking it through.

Those books are for fans of 12 Angry Men, and I'm talking about the original 50s movie.

Keep in mind this is the book series that has inspired the worlds of Coruscant in Star Wars, Tatooine, and the world from Dune. And was written by Isaac Asimov, the dude who coined the words, 'android', 'cyborg' and a whole slew of other science fiction concepts.

Between this and Wheel of Time, I had never been more excited to see my beloved books come to life since the Harry Potter movies were still coming out.

Too bad WoT was a complete dud.

This however, I think captured the awe of the size of the Empire, and the general tone and pacing of the books, while managing to be totally separate and unique to them. For instance, Gaal being female, and the semi-religious aspect to her is, I think, an amazing addition to her character. Her being from a water world and the whole swimming stuff is unique to her btw.

If you find it boring, sorry. This skyrocketed into my top 3 SciFi list of all time after 1 season. The other two being The Expanse, and Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis, right up the the replicator storyline.

I love how much you love the show! big_smile (IIRC I never watched any show more than twice. And hardly any show more than once.)

Hey, 12 Angry Men (1957) is a great movie! smile (I won't watch the 1997 TV movie version, but I really like how 'old' the trailer looks. smile )

Interesting... I've enjoyed https://next-episode.net/the-wheel-of-time about as much as Foundation, albeit for completely different reasons.

I like the idea of watching Foundation a second time, but I'm not sure I'll be willing to spend the time needed... We'll see. smile

The series varied to far from the books for my tastes, although I can see why they had to; had they just serialised the books it would have been as boring as hell to watch.
But for me, they changed too much for it to be "Foundation" anymore.

Yeaup, I agree with you here, it's no longer Foundation but I do like the show, it's just not Foundation despite the name.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

season 2 eps 1 - pretentious garbage. too obscure. too little happening. just a dull show. no magic, I will watch it as not much else on

Sure, merc, sure...

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

Should call it Trantor (Cleon wasn't even in most of the books)

Its one of the good ones to me, would recommmend

Are you open to the possibility that a) you misremember Shakespeare and b) lots of people love the show (because it's high quality), you just are not one of them?

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

Merc is correct that there is a certain "Shakespearean" feeling to it especially in regards to the Cleon Dynasty, just off the top of my head I'd mention the following key ingredients that is almost always present in a Shakespeare play:

Complex characters and tragic flaws in characters -> The introduced genetic error or variation in the Cleon Dynasty
Fate is important -> Cleon's trip through the desert just like prophets and in particular the end of it
Explicit social commentary -> The whole Cleon story arc is a rejection of hierarchy in favor of equality
Struggle for power -> It's constant in the Cleon storyline
Love as a theme -> "Young Cleon" was about to be replaced by his lover
Foils -> Introduced all the time
Supernatural elements -> Merc says that there is no magic but there is plenty of technology that is indistinquishable

I have no doubt that the whole Cleon storyline arc is extremely inspired by Shakespeare. The rest.. not so much but that's still half the show.
