I only watched half of the first episode so far, but it looks promising! Solid 8.3/10 IMDb rating (>6000 votes), looks like this is one of the better Netflix shows. smile

3 eps in and it's just ok. Be sure to bring your YA bingo card.

Watched 1 so far and looks promising

Re: Shadow and Bone [Action, Drama, Fantasy]

I've watched them all now.  I think it's trying a bit too hard to be the next Game of Thrones in some ways.  Obviously aimed more at young teens but I'll watch the second season, if indeed there is one.

2020.  Meh.

Re: Shadow and Bone [Action, Drama, Fantasy]

It got better and I'd watch another season but I'd still not have made it through were it not that I 2x+ speed everything, as it drags at times. I don't so much see the GoT comparisons apart from the general grittiness of the setting, the factionalism and the main character's name being Starkov. Strikes me as more similar to Harry Potter (her power animal is a white stag, ffs) or the Shanarra Chronicles but really it's a pretty formulaic Joseph-Campbell-as-instruction-manual YA mishmash. It's not bad, the characters are likeable and it's not as if it's not a proven formula, but it's a pretty well tread road at this point. 3/5

Yeah, after just watching 1x3 I get a feeling for what you mean... it suddenly felt made especially for a young viewership. sad

I also got some GoT vibes in the beginning of the show, but compared to HBO's GoT this is lacking depth... like the Netflix remake with a smaller budget and a less skilled cast. wink

Finished season 1. It wasn't totally bad but I won't watch more should the show be renewed. I'm not sure how the show maintains a 8.0/10 IMDb rating. And I'm not 100% sure what it was that I didn't like... Was the cast not experienced enough? Or where the characters poorly written? Both? Something else?

It was like a deliciously-looking piece of pie... it looks perfect, but when you take a bite, you realize it's not made with real cream but with cheap fat just made to look like the real thing.

I'm up to episode 5.  I think it's ok.  You talk about young people shows I watched every episode of The Astronauts (Nickelodeon) and looking forward to next season.  It's adventurous, I like adventure.  Haha.

Maybe it's time to take the IMDB ratings for what they are...

So, I watched the whole season and I'm up for another.  Honestly I've had enough of villains especially the die-hard types but what can you do. Apparently it's the ongoing struggle and conflict that sells.

They are not perfect, but better than not having them. smile

I use this site, I don't know where they get their data from - https://whattowatchon.tv/shadow-and-bone-2021-tt2403776

DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom".

They just visualize IMDb data (in a somewhat weird way IMHO), the URL gives it away. tongue

Yea, but the overall score is different smile

EDIT: And there are a lot of sites that use the IMDB tt numbers as reference

Oh, my mistake then. smile

Re: Shadow and Bone [Action, Drama, Fantasy]

Season 2 was much better than S1. Seems to be well positioned for s3 assuming the high viewer numbers are enough for netflix to keep it.
