Based on the eponymous comic book, Invincible revolves around Mark Grayson, a normal teenager except for the fact that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet. Shortly after his 17th birthday, Mark begins to develop powers of his own and enters into his father's tutelage.

Just watched the first one, it's not great.
They have:
- "Guardians Of The Globe" instead of "...Galaxy",
- "Red Rush" instead of "Flash",
- A black Batman looking character that rides on a flying hoverboard,
- "Omni-Man" is from Viltrum instead of "Superman" from Krypton"

It's like they didn't even try.

DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom".

Re: Invincible

Yeah... when I first read about this, I thought "Oh, Robert Kirkman, might be good!"... and then changed my opinion when I watched the trailer. cool

The show's initial IMDb rating is surprisingly good though, I'm curious where it will end up once more than 106 folks left a rating.

Re: Invincible

Judging from the trailer it's completely different, their Hulk err i mean green big transforming creature is female.

Re: Invincible

I watched first two. It's not good enough to recommend to anyone but decent enough not to drop immediately. Just what my overstuffed queue needed more of...

Re: Invincible

I watched the first 2 episodes with my 13yr old daughter and she commented that these were like the Walmart version of superheroes......made me lol.

Re: Invincible

Just watched the first 3 episodes.  I like it.

Yeah, some of the characters are cheap copies of known heroes, but I dare you to come up with a hero with a totally unique name and power set.  ANYTHING you come up with will be able to be traced back and compared to an already existing hero (or villian).

Ater the 1st episode, my brain automatically switched to translating the names into those of their DC counterparts, it made the show reasonably watchable! big_smile

Re: Invincible

Okay, so the average 'rating' in this thread seems to be more or less "meh..." - but the show's IMDb rating after two days is 9.0/10. yikes Weird!

Love Doom Patrol.  Loved it when it was only a comic.

I'll agree the characters are pretty unique (in more ways than one), but you can still say that Elasti Woman is Plasticman gone wrong, Robotman is a primitive Cyborg (or maybe Cyborg is and advanced Robotman) and Negative man is the Mummy crossed with...OK, can't thing of anything for that one.

But yeah, Doom Patrol was a good one to bring up.

I guess my brain just sees it like you're playing D&D with superheroes (Sentinels of the Multiverse ish).

You want to have Superman and the Hulk on the same team and since you're making up a new universe all your own you can.  Plus you get to change things up a little bit so you end up having things that are familiar, but still (sort of) uniquely yours

Re: Invincible

I expected it to be unwatchable judging by the comments in this thread, but I kinda liked it. Yes it has the same basic heroes from DC/Marvel, and yes it takes inspiration from the boys, and even from superman & lois (or maybe it's the other way around, i dont know what was made first.) But that doesn't bother me at all strangely enough.

I was enough entertained to watch all the 3 episodes in one go.

Edit: My biggest complaint would be the voice acting of JK Simmons. Took a while to ignore it.

Re: Invincible

This show has grown on me.

If you overlook the derivative nature of many of the Superheroes, it's actually pretty good, with some dark humour mixed in with comic book violence and gore!

I've watched shows far worse!

Re: Invincible

Loved the weird ending (particularly weird for an American show). No resolution of the plot or any of the subplots, just a sudden end to the violence and then "wait and see".

This show has grown on me - and the cast is absolutely stellar. I will certainly watch a 2nd series, if there is one.

Re: Invincible

Grew on me as well. It was actually perfect for my purposes as I liked it enough to watch through but not so much that I felt like I needed to keep the comics folder in the expanding queue as well.

Re: Invincible

im thinking of picking this up, is it any good?

The only cartoon I ever really have watched (apart from obviously Rick and Morty) is the recent My adventures with Superman. I figured, if I can watch that, then maybe this will be good.

There was a lot of hype around it I believe, so what's the general consensus?

Re: Invincible

It's pretty good, but if you've never watched a cartoon before MAWS you'd be well served to go watch Justice League and Justice League Unlimited

Re: Invincible

Are we watching the same series? Most of the carbon copy super heroes get merked by their version of Superman at the very end of the first ep.

Then the show is a slow burn animated "The Boys" if superheroes weren't rockstars and were actual superheroes, but with the realities of combat.

Watching Season 1 made me pick up the comics, which as a completed series in the early 00's. There's a lot of potential honestly, and season 1 was actually good on it's own imo.

22

Re: Invincible

Season 2 episode 1 was good! I'd read the comics after seeing season 1, so can say they're staying pretty true to the source, but on a very accelerated schedule.

I really like the omni-man as an evil kryptonian in a society of evil Supermen.

Re: Invincible

It would be really nice if they would leave out the foul language. It is not needed and only offends a lot of people. The blood and guts don't seem to be necessary either.
