Re: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier [Action, Adventure, Drama]

Really liking this one so far, surprised at how many characters they've already brought in.

Spoiler

The Princess bar was a nice easter egg in ep 3.

I'm enjoying what seems to be a narratively straightforward story, but I hope not all the MCU TV content will be quite so obviously a scene-setting exercise for the next phase of the movie franchise. Yes, I get that there is a lot of ground to cover before the phase IV movies come out, but I do feel sometimes that the story is being rushed along a bit to get to the next easter egg. Some more explanation of character/motivation, instead of relying on audience memory of movies that are a decade old or more, would improve the show.

Yes and yes!

I like the "international" approach with many different filming locations, but 'Germany' was done quite poorly... it was soooo obviously not filmed in Germany! big_smile

Spoiler

And, like others, I wondered... Why is this bridge going into a very big city essentially empty? cool

Re: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier [Action, Adventure, Drama]

am I right in thinking the new Capt America is not a good guy? certainly eps 3 seems to suggest that?

9

Re: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier [Action, Adventure, Drama]

In the comics he's a good guy but a hothead and easily manipulated. Seems pretty similar so far to me.

10

Re: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier [Action, Adventure, Drama]

yeah US Agent in the comics isn't what you'd call a bad guy. Maybe unlikable. But to be fair so was Wolverine at times

"city morgue, you kill em, we chill em"

Re: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier [Action, Adventure, Drama]

Any guesses as to who's the Power Broker? On the whole, I’m ecstatic with where The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is heading after watching the first three episodes. I love how the show is combining the characters and lingering threads from the Captain America movies, while also taking advantage of the post-Blip environment of the MCU, to put together a coherent story thus far. Great character dynamics between Sam and Bucky, and their former enemies and allies, plus the steadily more interesting forces working against them makes this one of the few shows that I look forward to watching weekly without delay.

Honestly, I really don't care much who the Power Broker is. I'm enjoying watching the show, but I'm not a superfan when it comes to the whole big story and how something connects with all the rest.

Oh you will before it's all said and done. tongue

Spoiler

I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but the Power Broker wasn't a one-off. The Power Broker is a person and also the name of an organization in the series. That's the way it was also presented in the comics; it's no one person, but there is an actual character who's referred to as The Power Broker. They're doing the same thing with the Flag Smasher name. Erin Kellyman's character—Karli—is a version of the Flag Smasher character from the comics, but they're also using the name for the entire organization in the show. You will soon come to realize that the Power Broker is pulling the strings. They're basically the kingpin of Madripoor, which in itself is a huge X-Men easter egg. There were actually a lot of X-Men comic book references in this episode. The Power Broker is also connected to the Super Soldier Serum, and as you may know from the Hulk movies, Thunderbolt Ross is connected to it as well. Meaning there's most likely some tangential relationship between the two and the U.S. military. Whomever the Power Broker is, they knew about Nagel’s work before the Snap and still care about it after the Blip.

I couldn't agree with you more when it comes to my enjoyment of this show, and the rest is understandable. I'm a long-time fan of the comics, the MCU, and Marvel in general; with all of the interconnectivity with the comics, television shows, and movies. Ever since Disney crossed the T's and dotted the I's, there has always been tremendous potential to creatively interweave the films and television shows. Now it's just one universe. You don't have to be a superfan to enjoy the MCU as a whole but AFAIC, the experience is truly gratifying with an understanding of how it all ties together. Especially in regards to some, if not most of the references to past Marvel films, as well as the comics. Let me be clear, you do not need to know every single comic book event, or remember every event that occurred in any of the films to enjoy any MCU content. There are tons of breakdowns and recaps all over the web, covering all MCU shows and films for those who are interested. Three episodes in and I'm enjoying this show about as much as I've enjoyed watching WandaVision.

Spoiler

True indeed for the most part. I don't think we're quite officially there yet with U.S. Agent in the show, but the stage has possibly been set for Super-Patriot if Cap's shield is ever passed on to Sam. I believe that dark Cap has already received a variant of the serum so that he can match the other flag smasher super-soldiers. Which some believe may also put the show on track for a potential Thunderbolt Ross return. He may have lost his official role as SoS due to the Snap, but it’s hard to imagine he lost all of his power. His roots in the military are deep and lengthy; it’s scary to think what a person with that kind of access and influence could be capable of when not bound by the laws of an official position. Will dark Cap receive an Abomination-style arc at some point? If not directly in this series, will it layout the groundwork for future projects? I don't believe so but I've been wrong plenty of times before. Only time will tell...

BTW, for those wondering, I referred to John Walker as dark Cap because of the dark costume he wore in the comics. He has played multiple roles in the comics, which gives The Falcon and the Winter Soldier plenty of room when it comes to what purpose he'll serve as the show progresses. John Walker has been a hero, an anti-hero, a villain, a foil to Captain America, a leader, and even an Avenger at one point—as a member of the West Coast Avengers.

Re: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier [Action, Adventure, Drama]

It's been a while since I have been annoyed with one of the actors/characters as much as I am annoyed by the new Captain America. His character feels like a Mcdonald's employee, always mad at the customers.

Wow... the number of mad McDonald's employees I interacted with is exactly - or very, very close to - zero! big_smile

I think we can safely say the new Cap A has, at the very least, tarnished his own image somewhat in the eyes of the public.

Spoiler

Not to mention the shield. Does blood wash off vibranium easily? big_smile

22

Re: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier [Action, Adventure, Drama]

He is an arrogant doushe who

Spoiler

kills someone in cold blood out of revenge even tho the guy dident do it

So yes you could call him bad or atleast not your typical good superhero.

Re: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier [Action, Adventure, Drama]

Spoiler

I understand  there are only 2 more episodes and the good guys take the shield back. I bet that wont be done without violence and capt will give it up willingly? he's going off his rocker

24

Re: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier [Action, Adventure, Drama]

Spoiler

Yes, going off his rocker is a far cry from "very, very bad guy, no going back". Now it seems like the same episode big_smile The folks responsible for giving him the shield obviously didn't do their due diligence with the psych evals. Taking a guy with an obvious inferiority complex, magnified by trauma and survivor's guilt, who overcompensates with cockiness and inflexibility, then giving him such huge shoes to fill was just asking for trouble. But I'm glad they went this route and gave the character some depth as it'd have been easy to just make him a cartoony redneck.
