Sure, but after a show or movie gets at least about a thousand votes the ratings tend to be meaningful enough to be useful IMHO. 
No way - alot of people like alot of crap. Look at all the reality TV shows, watched and adored by millions, I think they are all absolute tripe. I can't be bothered to look at reviews scores for Big Brother, Love Island etc., but if one of those was 7.2/10 on IMDb I'd still rather watch paint dry.

True... but then I wouldn't even look up IMDb ratings for such shows because they don't even potentially interest me. (Ok, I've checked for scientific purposes, Love Island = 5.2/10 )

I am LOVING this show, I mean I was onboard with this Victorian X-Men premise to begin with but I'd dare say that this is the strongest 1st season of any Whedon series, for me. I cannot wait for each episode to air and can't help wondering if there will be any comic book or novel tie-ins to devour?!

I have only watched the first episode. rather confusing. what is that strange flying thing in the end depositing fairy dust?!? a copout? ( midwich cuckoos/children of the damned) The characters remind me a bit of a grown up version of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children that have special abilities ( the tall girl,the one that can grow things). Seems like doing a Jules Verne ( The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) ? or steampunk? so all a rather mish-mash of various sources.

Watched 1x5. A bit disappointed... it's the penultimate episode and it feels like there's too much going on for a show with so few episodes. Edit: I'm not sure where I read that it's the penultimate episode, somewhere else I just now read that it'll be 12 episodes. So there's still hope.

I'm right there with you. Pretty sure this is where I got the idea there were only 6 episodes https://next-episode.net/the-nevers/season-1 Glad to know there will be more

I was also under that impression and after checking the Wiki and IMDb I see both have information on only 6 Eps, though I did notice this line on the Wiki (which I swear must be new because I do not recall it from last time I visited this page): "The first season will consist of 12 episodes, split into two six-episode parts." That being said, I freakin' loved Ep 5 and can't wait to see how Team True did with their side of things next Ep!

At the end of the episode I watched it had a preview for the next episode stating it is the season finale. So looks like only 6 this season. But like Netflix do with lots of shows they do an A and B side

Yeah or the one I've been waiting ages for; Lucifer. But not much of a wait on that one now. It is still the same kind of time between part A and B as another season though, that was what I was meaning

They, themselves are not called that [The Nevers] in the show. It's a phrase that's meant to evoke a sort of reaction to their oddity, to what is considered unnatural. The idea that you should never be like this, you should never have existed. Something is not the way it should be, and you don't have the right to have whatever weird power or ability that you have. And that idea, that some people are not of the natural order, is fascinating to me. I don't agree with it. But to me, it's one of those things where you take something negative, and you wear it as a badge of honor, basically. Certain things could never happen - they're happening. And the people they're happening to are taking their place in the world.

▼Spoiler Watched episode 6 and had a real Terminator meets 4400 meets the 'Epitaph' episodes of Dollhouse vibe. I don't know if the main theme of the story has been done too many times for me. I've watched basically all those shows that go along the same theme "city morgue, you kill em, we chill em"

I don't recall ANY episode that EVER surprised me as much as this one! ▼Spoiler What I don't understand AT ALL: after Amalia falls (with the drill) into the cave, she activates a light sphere and moves along, using a breathing apparatus (and a container on her back). Then, another light sphere and breathing apparatus drop into the same cave (with the drill still on the ground), followed by another (???) Amalia, who leaves the cave without those. I agree it was a real surprise, I didn't see that coming. It was good to see Claudia Black back in a 'SciFi' series.

well I am about to watch it, I hope it is as good as you all suggest. well it was ok. The show 6 eps. was like one of those fancy cakes that look really scrumptious but then tastes a bit flat & nothing special. I learnt more from the final explanatory after show than the show its self which seemed to deliberately want to confuse or obscure so you dont know what the show really is, to maintain interest using technical devices. So I think rather empty in the end. Not a show I would want to rewatch.

I feel like I've been pleasantly and not so pleasantly surprised by a series before but that doesn't mean I didn't LOVE it! I'm gonna say it again, in my opinion this is the strongest first season for any Whedon series. I also agree it was great to see Claudia but she is currently on another SF series, even if her role is not half as meaty, she plays Ann Evans on Roswell, New Mexico. P.S. I'm already re-watching the series from the beginning!
