With Joss Whedon behind it, an amazing cast, and HBO putting it all together, this has to be good! big_smile

The linked (teaser) trailer looks very promising, check it out. smile

I guess it really comes down to how much input Joss had before he left....does it even qualify as a Joss Whedon show  he if wasn't working on it when it actually started production?

HBO ordered the show in July 2018, filming started July 2019, Whedon exited November 2020. So it clearly is a Joss Whedon show.

Awesome, we should get at least 1 good season out of it then!

Watched 1x1. It was slightly less good than I had expected, but still totally worth watching. Off to a good start.

Re: The Nevers [Drama, Sci-Fi] (Joss Whedon)

I watched episode 1 some bits were good others less so. Not sure whether it is for me, which is surprising, I will give it 2 more before I decide but I suspect that will be it unless it improves.

It was ok, I'll stick for now. Anyone else find the score a bit obtrusive?

Watched 1x2. Interesting twist at the end (who the 'evil doctor' character is working for...) - didn't see that coming.

Not me. smile

Re: The Nevers [Drama, Sci-Fi] (Joss Whedon)

I was looking forward to this, I've really enjoyed Whedon's previous TV work and have watch most of them multiple times (except Dollhouse, although I enjoyed that the once)

I think I've just become way too jaded by Hollywoods obsession with Woke culture though, am I the only person that saw it like this.....I'm kinda hoping I'm over-reacting and seeing stuff that isn't there because I just want to enjoy another show.

All I could see was
1. Strong, Intelligent, independent female leads (which I have no problem with)
2. They repeatedly beat the crap out of multiple grown men attacking them at the same time, thugs no less that were obviously used to fighting. (Its a superhero show so I'll give it a pass and say they gain extra human strength with the rest of their abilities even thoughts isn't even hinted at by the show)
3. Virtually every white male was either part of an evil shadowy conspiracy actively degrading women, a drunken sex obsessed fop, a corrupt cop, a thug, a "beggar king".
4.The only white male portrayed in any positive light was the quite feminine, awkward, non-threatening, non-masculine Hugh Grant wannabe.
5.The only other male portrayed in a positive light was of course black.

Thats just off episode 1, I haven't seen 2 yet, maybe it changes or maybe I'm seeing crap that isn't really there?

proteinnerd: I'm suffering the same affliction as you i'm afraid, since I saw much of the same. As I do with every show nowadays.

But i'm going to try a few more episodes, maybe it will grow on me.

Watch 1x2, it changes. smile

Maybe it doesn't change enough for you, but maybe it does. cool

All that aside, it's not too bad a show

DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom".

Re: The Nevers [Drama, Sci-Fi] (Joss Whedon)

I have to say I'm disappointed.  It kind of feels like a Joss Whedon thing, but not quite.  I think he only stayed for the first few eps anyway, then *ahem* left.  Maybe without him it'll be better?  It's a bit all over the place and it's not getting great reviews from what I've seen.  It's certainly not the next Buffy or Firefly, that's for damn sure.

Yes, maybe not the next Firefly, but the show is still pretty good! And at least a 7.2/10 IMDb rating. cool

Watched 1x3:

Spoiler

Great Odium/Amalia over-water/under-water fight scene! IMHO it would have been even cooler if Odium's body had sunk/ behaved like a normal body (with a heavy metal chain around the neck) after his death, given that most turns are not 'turned on' all of the time. smile

I take what both IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes say with a pinch of salt.  And what alot of people here say too big_smile

Sure, but after a show or movie gets at least about a thousand votes the ratings tend to be meaningful enough to be useful IMHO. smile
