Re: The Stand (2020)

It's a great book, too.  The "original" series is very dated now, but it was one of the first DVD's I bought - region one imported from the US when it first came out - no internet then!

2020.  Meh.

Re: The Stand (2020)

Great first episode! Not as scary as I remember the original version, but nothing to complain either. smile Some great actors!

Spoiler

Too bad many of them only had the first episode to act... cool

And some trolls managed to ruin the IMDb rating, hopefully not for long.

Importing DVDs from other regions... oh yeah, those were the days! smile

Re: The Stand (2020)

Glad I didn't listen to the "official reviews" which have pretty much slammed it.
I quite liked episode 1

Re: The Stand (2020)

As a teenager I loved "The Stand", it was the first Stephen King book I read (several times).
I remember the mini-series from the 90s, I remember thinking it followed the book quite closely.
I liked it, but it did feel... not cheap, but definitely made for TV, which at the time meant lower production values (than in movies).
This new one, however, is something else. Which doesn't have to be a bad thing!
But to catch my peak interest in the material, they are about 30 years too late big_smile

Probably but the virus thing suits to our present time very much and more so than it did 30 years ago.

Only thing i was missing from the pilot was a "Dont fear the Reaper" Remix.

selecta: smile

Btw, I've read that the show only really starts in 1x4, till then much time is spent on character introductions. Guess we'll see! smile

Re: The Stand (2020)

Just watched the -94 miniseries. Remembered that it was good - boy was i wrong. What a load of horse manure. The ending made no sense what so ever. The acting was just horrible, and the writing was like written by a 4y old.

Hoping this new one is better.

Never meet your hero/ never watch something again you used to love many years ago? big_smile

Re: The Stand (2020)

Yeah, I'm NOT going to rewatch that one, I'll stick with my memories big_smile

Re: The Stand (2020)

Some series/movies aged well like Back to the Future, others diden't but the opening scene of the original miniseries is still great.

Re: The Stand (2020)

Some things I loved when young, boy was I right! That tends to be film and music though. TV was very different back then as those of us old enough all know.

That original The Stand was soooo crap thou. I watched it first whenever it was first on UK terrestrial TV and due to my love of all things dystopian I thought it was okay for a TV series at the time. Re-watched it about 15 years ago, it was a struggle to get to the end. 1 star.

Now, some of you will recognise me from my comments about Steve King adaptions in the past and I was unsure about reviewing this. I don't like the guys opinions, his style of prose, his imagination, his personality and if he has a dog I don't like that either. I might like his cat.

First ep of this series was fine thou. I'm not going to rate it yet, see if I make it till the end. But yeah, it mostly worked well enough.

I don't watch trailers. I never have and I never will.
I don't like Tom Cruise, James Cameron and there's lots more to add, give me time
I don't like Star Wars or Star Trek or any superhero *hit

Re: The Stand (2020)

Wow, I'm surprised at just how crap this has got. This is how I can't stand King. He's at be is at best a retarded ape. I do not like this.

Re: The Stand (2020)

I'm still watching it, but I don't like how they're straying from (what I remember of) the book and some of the casting leaves a lot to be desired (ahem, East Texas, ahem).

I watched the 90s version, too. More than once. Cheesy, but I liked the cast.

Re: The Stand (2020)

vapdne, what you write is hard to read, and is that really what you want to write about a fellow human being?

Ok, you don't like Stephen King's stuff, we all get that by the length you go to to explain it.  So here's an idea, don't read any of his stuff or watch any of his TV adaptations.  How does it help anyone here reading your comments?  You're just wasting your time and ours.  Go and have a lie down.

2020.  Meh.

Re: The Stand (2020)

Re: The Stand (2020)

I like it as well.

I've read the book a number of times and have seen the old 90's version 2 or 3 times so I'm kinda liking the changed story telling.

The only negative is it has that domestic abuser Amber Heard in it...although her character is quite fitting or her real life persona I guess.

Re: The Stand (2020)

This show got boring real fast. Dropped.

Re: The Stand (2020)

1x05

Song Spoiler

Finally "Dont fear the Reaper" was used but sadly only in the credits and i wouldnt have minded a remix attempt of it.
And Apparat - Goodbye was another good song choice but sadly again ended it before the best part of it.
But so far good song choices overall.
