I really like the trailer* and look forward to the show, not only because Jessica Rothe (of Happy Death Day (2017) fame) is part of the cast! smile

*Quite a few people gave it a "thumbs down" because https://next-episode.net/utopia-2020 seems to be (more or less) a remake of https://next-episode.net/utopia - which I haven't watched but might some day.

Re: Utopia (2020) [Drama, Mystery, Thriller, Sci-Fi]

I watched the UK Utopia some years back and when I watched this Amazon/US Utopia trailer saw some parallels, the music, the big yellow bag, the color yellow in scenes, so yeah, it looks like they've done some of their modeling after that Utopia.  I might give it a watch.

Edit - oh, gosh, just caught the character names and without a doubt it is a remake of the UK Utopia.  Jessica Hyde... but I don't see Arby (significant)

I loved the UK one from a few years back, was gutted when they canned it.  I'll watch this in the hope that it has the same "feel" as the UK one.

2020.  Meh.

This is exactly the reason why I'm starting the UK one first. I've been meaning to watch it, and now seems like an opportune time before the 2020 version drops. As soon as I finish my second round of The Boys S1, and catchup to S2, I'm in Utopia! I couldn't help but notice that the Utopia 2020 trailer is getting hammered in the comments section on YouTube by fans of the UK version. It's brutal! yikes

I'll reserve judgment until I've completed both.

Re: Utopia (2020) [Drama, Mystery, Thriller, Sci-Fi]

Well, I've binged the first three episodes, and yeah, it is a lot like the previous Utopia, same feel, same gore and anticipation.  A few cosmetic differences such as Jessica Hyde, and yet...

Will pick up some more tomorrow evening perhaps.

It's more accessible and certainly very timely...

Got halfway through episode 1 of the 2020 series and binned it. Not a patch on the UK series, I was disappointed in this version. YMMV.

I have not yet started it but will at some point after finishing the 2013 version. smile

Re: Utopia (2020) [Drama, Mystery, Thriller, Sci-Fi]

I watched the pilot of the 2020 version first and thought it was great. Then i watched the pilot of the 2013 version and have to say that the beginning and music is definitley better on the 2013 version but overall i still liked the 2020 version better.  So far i have seen the first 2 eps and going to continue the 2020 version for now.

Re: Utopia (2020) [Drama, Mystery, Thriller, Sci-Fi]

well I have watched the whole  8 eps of the 2020 show and I give it 4/5.

One of the best things about the 2020 version is the art work of the book. The 2013 version is poor by comparison. If they ever bring out on blue ray they should include postcards of the  book?

Typical. Beginning to think there's no point starting to watch anything till it has been around for three proven years or more.

Watched 1x1. I was quite disappointed for the first 10 minutes, then it really came together and suddenly I had reached the end of the episode! cool

It's quite different compared to https://next-episode.net/utopia but so far good enough for me to keep watching. smile

Finished it! Somehow, they've managed to make it less fucked up and more fucked up than https://next-episode.net/utopia at the same time! big_smile big_smile

It was not as good as https://next-episode.net/utopia but still worth watching IMO. smile Rated this 7/10, the original 8/10.

Wow - just one mark in it?  I think the original blew the US one away.

See the spoiler here for one big reason why I only rated it 8.4/10. smile

HomerS: I look forward to your comparison (ratings), especially since you started with the remake.

I have too many shows i'm watching at the moment so Utopia UK is way down on my list, maybe in late 2021, i might take a stab. But from my experience 9 out of 10 times i prefered the show/version i watched first, as it's not new/fresh anymore the second time around, even if the original or remake might be a bit different.

And i liked the US pilot better than the UK pilot, but probably because i watched the US one first aswell.

Yeah... I wonder how much that influenced me while watching the remake...

I agree with both of you guys and still stand by my 5/5 next-episode rating for the original. I thought the original did an excellent job blending a gorgeous, bright visual style with a dark comedy and its ruthless counterparts. That doesn't mean I thought the remake was terrible or unenjoyable, but it was different IMO. In fairness, I watched the original roughly a week before watching the remake, so it was still fresh in my head at the time of viewing. If it weren't for the Amazon cancellation, I would probably give the first season another spin at some point, but I don't see that happening now.
