Topic: 'Mark episode as watched' for Past+Future shows! (Homepage)

'Mark episode as watched' is a lovely feature - I just don't get around to using it regularly: open https://next-episode.net/track, look for the episode watched... it takes a little bit of time.

Here's my idea: add this feature for Past and Future* shows on the homepage! (When the column on the right is activated.) Marking one episode watched there would remove/hide it from the column there.

If your concern is about space: instead of adding "[-]" to each line, you could turn the ep info into the 'Mark episode as watched' feature. So instead of "[-]", one would (for example) click "1x11".

*The feature would of course only work for "Future" shows from today, same as on https://next-episode.net/track.

I don't like it.

But the idea of adding "mark watched" functionality to some other place on the site, other than the Episodes page is not alien to me.

For your use case, doesn't sorting the table in the Episodes page "by recently aired" do the trick?

Re: 'Mark episode as watched' for Past+Future shows! (Homepage)

"sorting the table in the Episodes page "by recently aired"" surely works, but it's less perfect than my suggestion for two reasons:
- I have to go to another page
- the search engines (that I never use on that page) make scrolling necessary: at the same time, I can see only 4 shows on the track page, but 16 shows in the Past+Future column

If you still don't like my idea: Did you ever consider adding an expand button for the search engines on the https://next-episode.net/track page?

That would condense

Search in [ a search engine another search engine yet another search engine yet another search engine yet another search engine yet another search engine yet another search engine yet another search engine yet another search engine yet another search engine yet another search engine ]

to

Search in [expand]

And now that I think about it, this [expand] button would also be cool for individual show pages.

([expand] could also be [show more], which would change to [show less] once clicked on)

I feel you're kinda misusing that feature (the search engines) if it's so long for you that it causes trouble.

Normally, this will have 2-3 search engines in it, or at least that's how it's supposed to work?

I have three search engine entries.  What the hell are you doing if you have that many!?

Maybe you are using the track option in a method that doesn't work for you - not saying it's right or wrong.

The way I use it is that once I have obtained the episode, I mark it as watched.  All unwatched episodes live in a folder called "To Watch" and they mount up if I don't watch anything for a while.  Once they have been watched, they are either sorted into a show specific folder or deleted.

DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom".

I just like to have search links ready for (almost) everything I want to search for in a TV show context. big_smile

I listed several at https://forum.next-episode.net/viewtopic.php?id=9775.

I like a similar idea. My Homepage displays shows from yesterday, today, and tomorrow. I'd like to be able to click Acquired from my homepage, which will also mark it in my Episodes. When I've watched it, I'd just go to Episodes and mark it Watched just like I do now.

The reason I'm asking for this is because of the length of my Episodes list. Scrolling up and down takes time (because there's no way to collapse a show) while having that ability on the Homepage would save time because it's a limited subset of the Episodes list.

If your list is so big, why not use the collapsed view and only expand as needed?

And I hear you. A better navigation in Episodes (like a dynamic search) is probably what can also help here.

Still not sure about adding acquired and/or watched functionality anywhere else outside the Episodes page.

Collapsed view/expand per season works great! I overlooked that option. Apparently, I'm much too set in my ways.

I'd still like to be able to check off yesterday/today/tomorrow shows as Acquired, but it's not like I'll leave the site over it.

I'll *NEVER* leave you, Santah...

mwah ha ha...
