The Handmaid's Tale, based on the 1985 bestselling novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood, will debut its first season on Hulu in 2017. Moss will play Offred, a one of the caste of Handmaids who are forced into sexual servitude by the male-dominated Gilead totalitarian regime as a last desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world.

CONFESSION TIME: I fast-forwarded past the flashback scenes and their filter-lit happy, smiley, good-times vibe as it reluctantly lifted me out of the glorious mire of palpably bleak misogyny and helpless hatred. I can score that bog-standard happy bollocks on any telly show, I'm just here to mainline the high-grade misery thank you very much.

Bitterly disappointed in S3 though.

Spoiler

The main screenhog handmaid was allowed FAR too much leeway with her insulting public displays of brazenly insubordinate language and her generally insolent comportment. WHERE was Aunt Lydia and her magisterial cattle prod to correct these glib displays of public insouciance? WHERE? ANSWER ME.

I've watched season 1. The show is a bit slow for my taste, but - so far - I couldn't stop watching! cool

Finished season 2 and 3. smile Good show!

Weird that it's on 22695 watchlists but 'nobody' posts here... cool

Wifey watches it, so it's only my watchlist for that reason.  tongue

DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom".

Re: The Handmaid's Tale

I really liked the first season, but the other seasons have got weaker as they've gone on, in my opinion.

2020.  Meh.

Maybe a little bit, yes. But I liked how they showed more and more of the 'world' in the following seasons, like what was going on in Washington.

Re: The Handmaid's Tale

That was fascinating

Spoiler

The rooftop scene, around ep 3, when that arsehole was pushing handmaids over the ledge, June was cuffed but still could've easily rushed the old Commander coot and sent them both over the building ledge for some pretty sweet murder/suicide action in the rain.

The finale, how come June didnt negotiate for her daughter to be included in the 22 for the prisoner exchange?

What a glorious grisly denouement it was for Freddy The Flipper at the hands and feet of the handmaids.

Re: The Handmaid's Tale

I just saw their (new?) "We Will Bear No More" poster, a great play on words and perfectly fitting the extreme political right's efforts to move the US closer towards what's shown in the show (even if the majority of the population doesn't want that).

Looking forward to watching 5x1!

Re: The Handmaid's Tale

Sounds like I'm one of the last people still into this show. The overarching premise is still as fertile as it is febrile with possibility for me.

Spoiler

Liking the balancing act they are doing with eking out measures of misfortune for Serena Hitler interspersed with her Gileadian delusions. Entirely predictable she didnt shoot June in the last episode and shot poor old Ezra the henchman instead.

Good old Putnam The Rapist getting dragged outside from his swank restaurant lunch and hastily executed on the spot was a wee bit of a surprise. No trial just a bullet in the face as the lunch patrons watch on in bemusement and wifey has a wee scream LOL

Still unsure what is going on with the white haired commander who helped June escape yet has now become an utter, utter bastard again
