Topic: Altered Carbon [Action, Crime, Sci-Fi]
https://next-episode.net/altered-carbon Watchlists: 18,959
This is set in the 25th century when the human mind has been digitized and the soul itself is transferable from one body to the next. Takeshi Kovacs, a former elite interstellar warrior known as an Envoy who has been imprisoned for 500 years, is downloaded into a future he'd tried to stop. If he can solve a single murder in a world where technology has made death nearly obsolete, he'll get a chance at a new life on Earth.
It's a great show that currently holds a 8.1 IMDb rating. Looking forward to season 2! ▼Spoiler I just wish the Takeshi Kovacs actor/sleeve would be the same. 2017: ALTERED CARBON Official Trailer (2017) Netflix https://youtu.be/5r8pAMMeNPo 2020: Altered Carbon | Season 1 Official Recap | Netflix https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mknz1JY9dWM Altered Carbon Season 2 | Main Trailer | Netflix https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MzbLQBeR9Y

Re: Altered Carbon [Action, Crime, Sci-Fi]
Altered Carbon Season 2 was never part of the plan for showrunner Laeta Kalogridis or Netflix, but the network went ahead and renewed the series anyway. It wasn't exactly a surprise, given its critical success here on Den of Geek and elsewhere. Although the next Richard K. Morgan book in the series might be of too large a scale to be adapted the way the first Takeshi Kovacs novel was, there are plenty of other planets in the settled worlds for the series to explore if that's the direction Kalogridis chooses to go. Alison Schapker will take over for Kalogridis as showrunner and executive producer of Altered Carbon, bringing her wealth of genre TV credibility to the series. Schapker has produced on sci-fi juggernauts like Lost and Fringe as well as other geek favorites such as Charmed, The Flash, Alias, and Almost Human. Other executive producers include James Middleton, Mary Ross, David Ellison, and Dana Goldberg.

Re: Altered Carbon [Action, Crime, Sci-Fi]
Thanks, scorpius074. "After decades of planet-hopping and searching the galaxy, Kovacs finds himself recruited back to his home planet of Harlan’s World with the promise of finding Quell. [...] With the help of his loyal A.I. Poe (Chris Conner), Kovacs must now partner with new allies to outwit his enemies and find the truth: Who is Quellcrist Falconer?"
▼Spoiler I'm curious to learn how they've liberated Poe from the hotel... IIRC they said in season 1 that Poe is the hotel.

Re: Altered Carbon [Action, Crime, Sci-Fi]
Not brilliant but pretty good overall. I'm a sucker for anything that can use the words 'dystopian', 'apocalyptic' or 'noir' in its description so this fits a few bills. Some of the dialogue is very bland, but some is excellent. Some of the plotting is wide open and I've got to turn the critical part of my consciousness off but the overall themes work very well for me. Most of the action scenes are very well done. I like the characters. The exposition is annoying though. Did you know: they use the titles of film noir's as episode titles?
I don't watch trailers. I never have and I never will. I don't like Tom Cruise, James Cameron and there's lots more to add, give me time I don't like Star Wars or Star Trek or any superhero *hit

'Altered Carbon' Season 3 Needs A Bigger Budget, If Netflix Renews It At All https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/ … e308e46f95 Good article. Interesting:
...this season isn’t being as well-received by fans as the first. Curiously, critics are reviewing season 2 better than season 1 (82% versus 68% on Rotten Tomatoes), but fans are the polar opposite. Season 1 has a 90% fan review score while season 2 has crashed down to a 38%.
The author's criticism is valid, but I still have enjoyed season 2 so far.

No mystery as to why critics are reviewing it positively, just put a diverse (read non-white) cast and make the women empowered and the critics will love it even if it is crap. It was such a disappointment after the great first series yet .... another great franchise falls victim to woke Hollywood and SJWs. Yep, just found this in the article https://www.wired.com/story/altered-car … rovements/ : "Given all this, it’s perhaps not surprising that the team that turned Altered Carbon into the show it should have been is radically different too. Where the first season was crafted almost exclusively by white men (with the exception of showrunner Kalogridis), this season is penned and directed almost exclusively by women or by men of color." Honestly, why does this even matter? Shouldn't it read "this season was penned and directed by the best people they could find for the job" who gives a XXXX what colour, sex or preference they have and why is that even worth reporting on?

I think there is nobody who disagrees with you on that. The reason articles like this are a thing, though, is because your headline should by pure chance regularly result in their headline, but it still rarely does, so it actually ends up being interesting for some. Whether regularly reporting on it makes it better or worse, that can be argued about. proteinnerd wrote:It was such a disappointment after the great first series yet .... another great franchise falls victim to woke Hollywood and SJWs.
Perpetuating derogative terms that are often used by people who just want to be an asshole for a bit may not be the best reaction here either. It only adds more friction to the whole situation and ultimately to more of these articles; hell, for all we know they did simply choose the people they considered best for the job and only the article made it about something else. I am not saying you can not use these words, just that you should maybe consider whether they actually help us get anywhere. Besides, I did not think it was poorly made. The quality seemed generally similar to season 1 to me; it's just that the story was not nearly as interesting this time around. Considering they are making this off a book series... it happens. Here's hoping for a good season 3, still.

When I read such negative/ exaggerated comments I often wonder if we both watched the same show... The season 2 I'm watching is a good season (with a powerful woman and a lesbian couple,) that probably should have gotten a bigger budget.

Re: Altered Carbon [Action, Crime, Sci-Fi]
Season 1 was interesting. I liked the steampunk atmosphere (especially Poe and his hotel ). Although slow at moments, the story, characters and settings were engaging. Season 2 was much slower, there were less characters and the story wasn't very entertaining. I will give season 3 a try, but I don't expect much.

I'm at 2x05 at the moment and still pondering if i should finish season 2, it feels much more like a chore to watch compared to season 1.

If you enjoyed I then that's great for you....it appears a LOT of people share my thoughts on season 2 however. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2261227/re … ef_=tt_urv Plus I don't see how just by having a powerful woman and a lesbian couple make it good. Wasn't Martha Higareda who played the tough as nails Detective Garcia in season 1 a "powerful woman" or isn't Hispanic racial diverse enough to score points? Wouldn't a great script with an engaging storyline and strong acting performances make it good, not just token diversity elements?

It doesn't... but it also doesn't make it bad. Let's hope they get a season 3 and an increased budget... that should make most people happy, even if they again sprinkle on some diversity.

Ah, that sucks. Yes, S2 was less good than S1, but still totally worth watching (IMHO).

You're welcome. I've now watched it. While it had some interesting parts/ ideas, its focus on the Yakuza theme was too heavy for my taste. And the hotel AI was not as convincing as in the TV show. Wish some billionaire fan would step up to the plate and renew the show!

Damn you Netflix. Give us crap like Away, but cancel a great show like Altered Carbon. There is so much shit at Netflix that they could cancel instead.

I haven't watched https://next-episode.net/away yet but its IMDb ratings are not that hot... smsk40 wrote:There is so much shit at Netflix that they could cancel instead.
The sad truth probably is that a show like Altered Carbon has a budget big enough to produce half a dozen cheap shows... which bring Netflix more new customers than another Altered Carbon season.

Unfortunately, what dies on Netflix usually stays dead on Netflix. They don't really give anything away.

Well, instead of giving all/most to The Giving Pledge, the billionaire fan could just give Netflix the budget for another season!
