Topic: Avenue 5 [Comedy, Sci-Fi]
https://next-episode.net/avenue-5 Watchlists: 2957
Avenue 5 is a comedy set in the future, mostly in space.
This is a weird one... After watching 1x1 I'm not yet certain if I'll finish the first season. It has some good jokes, but so far I'm not fully convinced it's a good fit for me. Will check out 1x2 too.

Re: Avenue 5 [Comedy, Sci-Fi]
What a letdown. Waste of good acting talent and money. I had to strain to get to the end of first episode. 0/5.

This is a comedy for the cynics among us.

First Ep was a little underwhelming but I'm hopeful, because if it can realize it, this series has a lot of potential!

Re: Avenue 5 [Comedy, Sci-Fi]
After watching 1x2 I'm giving up on it. They've tried, but lots of acting talent doesn't result in a good show here. It's not terrible, but not worth my time.

Given that good writers are cheaper than good set carpenters I can't believe HBO did this. Some of my favourite actors are in this stinker but they have nothing to work with. We pulled the pin last night after forcing ourselves to watch episode two.

I don't think it's supposed to be overtly funny, more cynical. If you know anything about Armando Iannuci's style, you'll know he's not about slapstick or obvious comedy. But hey, if you don't like it, move along to something else, don't waste time here telling everyone you don't.
2020. Meh.

Re: Avenue 5 [Comedy, Sci-Fi]
I wasn't expecting comedy or anything else, and I typically don't whine about programs I don't like. I guess I was just really disappointed because when I saw who the cast consisted of I had such high hopes going in. If I see comments here and elsewhere indicate that things have turned around I will give it another shot.

He directed The Death of Stalin (2017), which was good. I guess many people expected something different from Avenue 5, which results it its current 5.7 IMDb rating.

I really didn't like The Death of Stalin. But I've been a fan of Alan Partridge since it was just a radio 4 show.
2020. Meh.

I think the comedy just went over their heads. Comedy doesn't wake up people who aren't awake.

I enjoyed 1x02 more than 1x01 but maybe because i now know what to expect and adjusted my expectations accordingly. Gonna check out some more eps before i decide.

That's exactly what I do with every new show I watch. I never assume that just because I like the actors, the writers, the show runner, whatever, doesn't mean it's going to be one I like.
2020. Meh.

I liked it, It's different. A couple of annoying characters but I'll get over that soon... probably.

Re: Avenue 5 [Comedy, Sci-Fi]
I like this better than other works of this Ianucci guy. I think this show is better written because his other shows, like Veep, are just too foulmouthed. Too much cursing, and most of the humour is both mean-spirited and based on "roasting", how to make as elaborate and over-worked insults as possibly. I do not enjoy that, it also do not feel very natural. This show is much better written, atleast in my taste. For me the funniest thing was that NASA grammar issue, "what is they saying, NO that does not sound right i sound like an idiot" haha Also i do not find any of the characters too annoying, they are all just right for the character they are supposed to be. Judd is not horrible, neither is Karen. "You are with Judd now." My biggest complaint is the camera style, please make shaky/handycams and fast cuts go away forever.

Wow, you better never watch "In the Thick of It" then I personally love it, and so I've read, it's not that far from how these people act and talk like in real life.

haha i promise i will never watch that. I only liked the few parts of Veep that was other types of jokes, but i just saw a few episodes. I can not imagine people talk like that IRL, but maybe they do.

I'm with dofus here. Just watched the "In the Thick of It" trailer and found it [censored]. The trailer for https://next-episode.net/night-on-earth ("The wonders of the nocturnal world reveal themselves like never before in this nature documentary series.") that I watched before that was so much better!

Re: Avenue 5 [Comedy, Sci-Fi]
1x03was a good one, the annoying character is no longer annoying to me. And with the discovery ▼Spoiler that there is another crew really flying the ship I'm now convinced this is worth watching.

Re: Avenue 5 [Comedy, Sci-Fi]
With a great cast, including two of my favourite actors Hugh Laurie and Rebecca Front, how can this series go wrong? Well, in so many many ways. A gag free zone (except for the vomit definition of gag), it reminds me of Harrison Ford's comment to George Lucas during Star Wars filiming - "You can write this crap, but you can't say it." It is terrible.
