Topic: The Outsider [Crime, Drama, Mystery]

https://i.postimg.cc/Pxj3ZRYv/The-Outsider-banner.png

Based on Stephen King's bestselling novel of the same name, The Outsider follows a seemingly straightforward investigation into the gruesome murder of a young boy. The crime, however, leads a seasoned cop and an unorthodox investigator to question everything they believe to be real, as an insidious supernatural force edges its way into the case.

I've planned to check it out, and with its great initial IMDb rating I'll do that for sure! smile

I'm really loving this series so far. ❤️

I haven't read the source material, so I can’t speak to its quality as an adaptation, but I can say that The Outsider is one creepy-as-hell detective story that does indeed have that True Detective vibe to it with a special kind of twist. I know it's still early (only 2 episodes in) but I can confidently say that this one's a definite keeper.

I really like how they're playing this so straight, adds to the mystery.

Which actress and why? I thought that character was played perfectly. smile

Edit:
Holly Gibney on The Outsider: How does HBO series tie into Mr. Mercedes?
https://www.monstersandcritics.com/smal … -mercedes/

While I totally enjoy The Outsider, I decided I won't watch Mr. Mercedes after just watching the trailer.

Not everybody is as knowledgeable as you, and until my "Edit" I didn't know anything about Mr. Mercedes. smile

Ok, ahahahahahaha, you're right, not everyone is, lol!

It's just that first 3 books of Mr. Mercedes are followed by this one standalone The Outsider hence Holly Gibney is ought to be the same that's all!

Ah well, since both shows are by different teams, I don't mind their choices. smile

Cheers!

Re: The Outsider [Crime, Drama, Mystery]

Again, in 1x04, they manage to reveal almost nothing while keeping the story interesting. smile

What I didn't get (fully):

Spoiler

The woman in jail claims that he never had a breakfast date (or more) with the prisoner shown in 1x3, but the flashback scenes show that not only did she meet him for breakfast, they had sex afterwards, with his back bleeding. She's making that claim even though she is to benefit if the doppelgänger theory gets substantiated, which her claim makes less likely. I'm curious how that'll be used in future episodes. I have a theory... we'll see! smile

the doppleganger he went on a date with and ended up in bed with.

Re: The Outsider [Crime, Drama, Mystery]

When I noticed this I was unsure whether to give it a go or not. Mainly because I rather dislike King's work.

To be fair I haven't read anything of his since about 1995 but by then I'd read a few novels and decided there were better authors available so I wouldn't bother again.

Then I found out about his attitude to Kubrick's 'The Shining' and being a massive fan of almost all of the great directors work I couldn't bring myself to ever watch anything to do with King again.

However I lived with a horror nut girlfriend for 8 years so ended up seeing a few adaptions from his work but none of them stood out to me. Nothing I despise but nothing of any note and I believe it is all very formulaic.

Anyway, this is no different. It started really well but as soon as the show starts banging on about good v's evil, ancient evil, blah blah. Seen it all before. It does have excellent bits. The cast is great! The dialogue all seems pretty good. Great production values, well made etc.

I'm going to watch it till the end but I am unemployed atm. Not sure I would if I was working full-time.

I don't watch trailers. I never have and I never will.
I don't like Tom Cruise, James Cameron and there's lots more to add, give me time
I don't like Star Wars or Star Trek or any superhero *hit

I pay little attention to whether something is based on a King story or not, but this has the highest production value of any King screen adaptation. And not every details of a show has to make sense, but everything must fit together - and here it does IMO. Maybe it's just not for you. smile

Re: The Outsider [Crime, Drama, Mystery]

Just finished 1x10, the final episode. (Or is it?) This is probably the first ever TV show episode that continues after the end credits, just like some movies. smile

Spoiler

I just don't understand how Holly Gibney got that scratch on her right arm... smile
