I think it comes down to immersion.

Sure the story could've been told in 90 minutes and you would get the same amount of information out of it.
But you probably wouldn't have been able to dive into the world the same way as we were able to with the six episodes they gave us.

I would go the other way and say, broken down to a 90 minute movie I would've given it probably a 3/5 and not the 5/5 the show managed with the character- and worldbuilding surrounding the story.

Okay, saw the last episode today... what a awesome show! First time in a long long time... I have nothing (well, almost!) nothing to complain about! Loved every minute!

what was that with the music at the beginning and the end of the last episode? So out of "character" and breaks immersion instantly. I mean, was that really necessary???

Ya I agree Fassy, I said the same thing, trying perhaps to be funny, but it was just immersion breaking.  Loved every minute of it regardless.

Lots of vids on YouTube about the whole world of Ice and Fire - it's a rabbit hole. One thing I really liked was this: someone pointed out that Brienne of Tarth carried a shield for which she had no history. That shield is Dunk's. Brienne is his descendent. If anyone has sharp eyes and a lot of time, would you be willing to confirm?

In that dialogue at the beginning, anyone else got a bit of Tyrion Lannister from Ser Lyonel?

When Duncan hesitated to knight Ser Raymun I also thought that Duncan wasn't actually knighted by Ser Arlan...still a mystery if it actually happened

The very last scene...perfectly done.

So far the best show of 2026 for me 10/10 ...let's see if anything can top it

Agreed...felt off and don't see any reason for it. That would've fit Fallout but not this show.

either to see Dunk bury Rave or visit her grave before he left Kings Landing...the 2 seconds we see him cry were not enough for me to make this flashback as good as it could've been.

He had made the decision to follow his rescuer and did not have time. He was also injured and would have had to drag her out of the city first.

I had the impression that more time passed inbetween the scenes.
