True, the ending in the west was the typical tragic drama ending. Still I like it, it was well executed. For the east... well, based on historical events. The thing which came short is a bit is the to really tell the story why the post for important for both the US Army and Gov Young and his militia.

Not really? Not sure who should have survived who didn't? Isaac? Abish and Jacob? Red Feather? Winter Bird and all of the Shoshone? Any of the settlers killed by the militia? Any of the US Army soldiers? The crazy french highway men family? the bounty hunters?

Isaac - as above, expected and well executed. Unavoidable without a cheesy happy happy ending.
Abish and Jacob - Their tragedy was very well told. Loved it.
Red Feather, Winter Bird and All of the Shoshone - I think Red Feather just had to die this way. We could argue if Winter Bird and all of the Shoshone had to die with him, but I think the point was to show the end of the wild roaming tribes in the plains.
US Army soldiers - not sure why I would have saved on of them. Maybe the Captain, but in the end he would not have any more story to carry for the reminder of the series.

I guess we won't need to talk about the others mentioned.

I get wanting to show the dark side of american history, but the Mormons should've taken some kind of loss in the end (Wolsey died, ok, but I don't think Young cared that much).

Well, they don't show how many of the Mormons died. They might have considerable losses. But only a few people from the Mormons had "faces" anyway... like Young, Wild Bill, Wolsey and that guy who stole the pocket watch. Wolsey and "that guy" did get what they deserved. Young and Wild Bill had to survive for historical context.

As I sadi, I guess they had to kill of all the Shoshone to make their point of: End of the reign of the free tribes in the plains.

why should he? Bridger didn't care for either side. He was an opportunist driven by profit only. He could also have sold to the US Army.

Well, again... he wasn't killed at that time. He lived quite a long while after the story here conluded and died 25 years later at his home in Missouri.

Didn't know the show was based on historical facts, I don't think there was any "based on a true story" notice . Good to know. Thanks.

With being based on historical facts you can't really argue about peoples decisions since what happened happened (even with liberties taken), that makes it definitely better than I initially thought.

It definitely kept it's grittiness all the way through and never let you forget where the story is taking place.

Taylor Kitsch has grown up quite a lot since Friday night Lights...

First episode was very good, looks promising. Feels similar to https://next-episode.net/1883 but a lot more grittier.
I know it's a dark setting, but a little bit more saturation wouldn't hurt

Betty Gilpin does an awesome job as always, the rest of the cast & characters are also pretty good.
