Used to read a book a day 5 days a week. You would be surprised what you forget.

I would never willingly watch a series I had read the books on. You are just setting yourself up for disaster. Just because it is a good book, does not mean it will be a good series or movie.

I did that once. With The Hobbit, when the cartoon came out I hated it. The voice was wrong for Bilbo and the way they drew him was way off what I had pictured. After that fiasco, never again.

If it happens, I hope they pay more attention to the characters' appearance. One of the big gripes for those of us who know is Rand's hair. The books note that it curls where it touches his neck. It is also NOT bright red. It's brown with red tones, much like a blood bay horse. Yet the artwork on the article has him bright red again.
Also, the Two Rivers area is somewhat isolated, meaning the people are pretty homogenous - hence Rand's notable appearance. It's only when they start to travel that they encounter people who look different from themselves. What I mean is, it would be OK for the Two Rivers folk to be generally white or -ish because of their isolation.
And at 16 years old (IIRC), no one has a spouse and kid because of the morals of Two Rivers' society, so stop with Rand and Egwene having sex and Perrin a widower. And Mat is cute and charming - not a scruffy sad-sack.

Huh, you're right, I don't know why I always thought his hair was more distinctly red than brownish red. I always thought it was amusing that the red headed light skinned people the Aiel were described to be were primarily in the desert of all places. Rand was also 6'6 in the books and considerably taller than most people.

I'll be happy if they don't cut out massive parts of the books and change what's left in ways that hugely impact the lore. Also... no pacifiers in the damanes this time please.

What I took from this video is that things have indeed been announced and there's already concept art being put out there.

The shannara books were kinda bad imo. The show mirrored the books, in that the first one was pretty good, but the narrative imo fell apart pretty quickly. Same with True Blood. Great first 3 seasons and books but man the back half sucked.

It's definitely hit or miss though when it comes to book series adapted to TV. Right now 2 good ones are Foundation and Murderbot. Murderbot may be the only example of a TV show that's actually better than the source material.

Wheel of Time remains one of the most popular fantasy series of all time. It has a built in audience in the 10s of millions. I have to believe they realized that deviating as far as they did from the source material was why it failed. We will see though...

My hope is Brandon Sanderson will have more creative input during this.

And again, Amazon paid a quarter of a billion dollars just in acquiring the rights for the books. There's no WAY they let it go without a real attempt.

but shannara and wheel of time had me wanting to commit genocide on writers.

if they even follow HALF of the story in wheel of time it will be EPIC on a scale not seen
in any format yet produced.
(shannara was a good story with well written parts but over all half baked)

and i say half , because they could clean up some of the story
when they do it.and that would still be more then ten seasons
as most of the books would need 2 seasons each as they are written.

THANK GOD. Wheel of Time is my favorite book series of all time. It has the potential to be bigger than Game of Thrones ever was. I knew Amazon paid too much for the rights to just let it go. Here's hoping they learned their lesson and will make an actually faithful to the books run this time.

Made by the same people that made the awesome Arcane series too? All of the hype. All of it. They better not screw this up again.

I enjoyed this show (7/10), but had it been done right, would have been a 10/10 and the best series ever put to the small screen.

Maybe it was the alienation of fans by making huge changes to the plot and characters. Maybe it was the criminally short seasons meaning the vast majority of scenes from the books were cut or drastically altered. Or the complete disrespect and disregard for the lore of the books.

Whatever the reason I'm happy it's over. Maybe one day and animation studio or another run can be done at live action that's actually good and true to the books. If this series had continued it would have been another 10 years of awfulness for me.

Sometimes I wonder why even bother watching the TV Shows made after books, since I can't recall a single show that has ended and was not cancelled midway. Perhaps another reason is also that there is so much time between seasons people forget & loose interest additionally contributing to more and more midway cancellations.

I really enjoyed this shows last season, feel sorry for it being cancelled.
