Can Comcast Save Jericho?

April 7th, 2008 by Robert Seidman

In a story in today’s New York Times by Brian Stelter who also runs the TVDecoder blog, it is suggested that CBS Paramount Television is in discussions with Comcast to save Jericho in a similar fashion as Friday Night Lights was saved by the DirecTV deal.

NBC liked DirecTV versus sticking it on a cable network because it felt that doing so would cannibalize 90% of the viewers who’d watch on NBC. DirecTV with less than 17 million subscribers is available to only about 15% of NBC viewers. As of Q4 2007, I believe Comcast was claiming more than 24 million subscribers between its basic and digital cable services, more subscribers than DirecTV, but not so many more that it should raise red flags around cannibalization.

I’m not sure CBS’ broadcast networks will budge on airing Jerich again, even if it gets a subsidization deal. Still it has to be good news for Jericho fans that such discussions are even being considered.

I bet we get our civil war in the New US

We thank an engaged and spirited fan base for keeping the show alive this long, and an outstanding team of producers, cast and crew that went through creative hoops to deliver a compelling, high quality second season. We have no regrets bringing the show back for a second try. We listened to our viewers, gave the series an opportunity to grow, and the producers put a great story on the screen.
Jericho Season 2 concerns

I was initially very happy to hear they have decided to give Jericho another go, I quite enjoyed the show.... however

From what I understand, the show gets like 6 (ish) episodes and depending on ratings , it might get extended to a full season.

My big worry is, How the hell do you write a decent story arc for a show that might have 6 episodes or might get continued for the full season? So what are they going to do? Write a flimsy mini finale at episode 6 and if it gets the green light continue it on? But if it doesn't, the flimsy mini finale stands as the end of the show?

Recipe for a crap season if you ask me.

CBS has decided to cancel this great show.
Here is a message from the president of CBS

To the fans of Jericho:

We have read your emails over the past few days and have been touched by the depth and passion with which you have expressed your disappointment. Please know that canceling a television series is a very difficult decision. Hundreds of people at the Network, the production company and the incredibly-talented creative team worked very hard to build and serve the community for this show -- both on-air and online. It is a show we loved too.

Thank you for supporting Jericho with such passion. We truly appreciate the commitment you made to the series and we are humbled by your disappointment. In the coming weeks, we hope to develop a way to provide closure to the compelling drama that was the Jericho story.

Sincerely,

Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment

Official Fan Club
http://jerichowiki.cbs.com/?t=anon

Link to sign petition to save the show
http://www.petitiononline.com/09272006/petition.html

Who really dropped the bomb
http://image.wetpaint.com/image/1/NDDhw … /GW600H900
