Topic: Elementary
Elementary
Following his fall from grace in London and a stint in rehab, eccentric Sherlock escapes to Manhattan where his wealthy father forces him to live with his worst nightmare – a sober companion, Dr. Watson. A successful surgeon until she lost a patient and her license three years ago, Watson views her current job as another opportunity to help people, as well as paying a penance. Holmes resumes his work as a police consultant in New York City and Watson has no choice but to accompany her irascible new charge on his jobs. But Sherlock finds her medical background helpful, and Watson realizes she has a knack for playing investigator. With the mischievous Sherlock Holmes now running free in New York solving crimes, it’s simple deduction that he’s going to need someone to keep him grounded, and it’s elementary that it’s a job for Watson. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUJeWvpat-M (I'm surprise a forum for this doesn't already exist but search turned up nothing)

Re: Elementary
After seeing the pilot a few things that needs to be said. Sherlock does everything simply better when it comes to the character's of Sherlock Holmes. The mystery of who did it isn't better or worse than Sherlock but the writing isn't nearly as refined. Sherlock benefits from only having what essentially comes down to six episodes a season so it's to be expected. Sherlock Holmes has always been my favorite detective so I will stay with the show for now. I don't think I can fairly judge the show on it's own merits until I can get to the point were I'm not comparing everything it does to how it's done on Sherlock.

Re: Elementary
Miller tries his best, but when Sherlock's name is not mentioned, I tend to forget that he's suppose to be Holmes. Lucy Liu didn't really had that much to do, besides being in awe of Sherlock's abilities, but after S04 of Southland, I hope she'll get the material she deserves. It wasn't as horrible as I thought, gonna check E02.

Re: Elementary
After thinking about it some more this is the conclusion I drew when talking about it on another site. I'm an avid fan of Sherlock Holmes and his ability to notice what almost everyone miss's. I enjoy seeing everything that Sherlock see's, but having them show what we missed and he didn't. Which is why I enjoy Sherlock as much as I do. To me it get's everything right that makes Sherlock Holmes stand out among everyone else. Also I enjoy the white text that appears to point everything out. The main problem this pilot had is, it was to short. They tried to establish way to many things that making Sherlock stand out slipped through the cracks. The episode might of redeemed it's self by having him crashing his car be part of the plot to catch the bad guy, but since that was the obvious choice the writers thought to be more clever and just show it being how Sherlock acts on emotion...which is something I don't recall ever happening. Sherlock reacts with his brain not his emotions. The show was fine if the main character's name wasn't Sherlock Holmes, but it is. People can adept the work how they want, but to me it just felt like the writers abandon what made the character what it is to me.

Re: Elementary
I agree with the posts above. The show would feel better if the main character wasn't called Sherlock Holmes. They changed too much for it to be Sherlock (no Mycroft, Lestrade (Altho the policeman was called GREGson), Irene Adler nor Moriarty (not yet at least)). I guess having a male Watson would have brought too much of gay innuendo on the show so they went with the easier choice of female companion. It's a bit sad that they chose to call him Sherlock, now it's a bit hard not to compare it to the other one and that is a battle this show cannot win. Call him something else and you would automatically compare the show to stuff like Castle and Mentalist, which is a battle the show can endure. I hope they play up the addict part of the character more in the future. That is a subject none of the new Sherlocks have been able to tackle at full. Hell you could even make him relapse. It's a decent show if you compare it wisely (to other procedurals and NOT Sherlock) and I will continue watching for now.

Re: Elementary
I liked Miller in Hackers, i liked him in Eli Stone but since this is suppossed to be Sherlock Holmes, i can't prevent comparing him to Benedict Cumberbatch and the british TV series Sherlock and there is where everything falls apart. Excuse my french but this show (atleast the pilot) sucks donkey balls compared to the other one. It's like comparing Premier League to kids playing ball in the backyard. Am i exaggerating? Maybe a little bit but in case Steven Moffat was talking about this show which stole his ideas of a modern Sherlock Holmes, he doesn't need to worry, as it doesn't come even close.

Re: Elementary
I was about to type the exact opposite Rwings! Actually I'm gonna do it right now. Episode two was worse than the first one. The show really likes to take you by the hand and guide you like a retard when it tells you how the murders were solved. Also there was a clear pattern from the first episode. Or at least how Sherlock cracked the cases (by comitting a small crime: car crash vs assaulting a police). It's also pretty clear that what happened in London has something to do with Irene Adler. This show is in a desperate need of Moriarty and/or an ongoing plot in the background.

Re: Elementary
It was better for me since I at least saw the smallest hint of who I think Sherlock is in the episode. The case is average for American procedural who done it. Their is no way that a 22episode format lends it's self to a Sherlock level who dun-it every episode or which is most likely going to be the case any episode. Adler in London is a given to anyone who knows anything about Sherlock and the lack of Moriarty I guess isn't to much of a shocker since that seems like traditionally a season ender. Neither the car crash (which I hated) or the assulting a police was how he solved the case. I don't remember what cause Watson to see the picture in the first episode but the second one was the AA meeting

Re: Elementary
What I meant to say was the breaking the law vehicle was already used in the first episode, it felt a bit like repetition to me and only 2 episodes in that's a bit concerning. As I said before, the biggest fault to the series is that it's Sherlock Holmes. So when they made the character resemble him more it just reminded me more of Sherlock (the BBC series). This show should be compared to the other gazillion consultant (writer, psychic, mathematitian, gardener, postman whatever) helping the police type procedurals. In that comparison it fairs decently. I still hope they play up his addiction part more, but I guess we'll have to wait for either Irene Adler or Moriarty to show up before we see that happening.

Re: Elementary
i don't know why you people want that Adler or Moriarty so bad? have you read any Holemes books? Adler is mentioned only in couple stories and so is Moriarty. I think this show is actually pretty good. That dude plays Holmes pretty well. Sir Conan Doyle would approve him. and even Lucy Liu fits here. I almost felt chemistry in this show between them.

Re: Elementary
I don't care to see Adler it's just obvious that's who the girl in London is. It can't be anyone else. As for Moriarty I just like the character and how he's every bit as smart as Sherlock minus the morals. It's also a given he will pop up by season's end.

Re: Elementary
It sucks that when a star is a guest on a procedural and has a minor role at first you know he's the killer. Like in last episode.

Re: Elementary
The show is OK but nothing special IMHO, doesn't come close to Sherlock. The characters don't have that spark or intensity. If they keep it strictly procedural and don't introduce some longer story arcs it will make me fed up very quickly.

Re: Elementary
Didnt think I would like this but im finding it to be really great except for the reason spyder23 mentioned. ▼Spoiler The second I saw that guy from Suits I knew he was the killer, that was like 3mins in.

Re: Elementary
I can't say Elementary is bad but Sherlock is definitely way better. If that sherlock cast wasn't busy with other projects maybe they'd actually consider a real series, but Elementary is still a decent dose of Holmes and Watson imho.

This show is at least good enough to fill the two year gaps between Sherlock seasons. I just enjoy having any sherlock to watch.

Godzi, could you point out why you don't agree with me instead of speculating about my state of mind? That would be more interesting...

I don't know why I like Elementary, the case's are predictable and not really that engaging, I don't really feel a need to watch it, but when I do, I just... Like it. And it's a good 'white noise' show.

My feeling exactly. I like Lucy Liu since Ally McBeal and Sherlock is all right too. The problem is in writing I guess.

Re: Elementary
the chemistry is good between holmes and watson and i think the actor playing holmes does a good job. writing is not perfect, since i have twice now long before the end guessed the ending, but this show is way better than Sherlock.
