Topic: X-Files to Return?

Fox confirms 'X-Files' reboot talks (and would love more 'Prison Break' too)
By James Hibberd on Jan 17, 2015 at 2:53PM

Fox’s new agenda is looking a lot like their old one. Confirming some prior reports, the network’s leadership says they are seriously chasing a reboot of The X-Files and are possibly interested in bringing back Prison Break too (along with yet another edition of 24 as well — but that’s another story).

On The X-Files front, Fox chairman and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman say they have been in talks with series creator Chris Carter about reviving the supernatural procedural, which was a major hit for the network from 1993 to 2002. The executives also revealed they hope to have original series stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise their roles on the show.

One thing all three titles have in common is they’re properties of 20th Century Fox Television, which Walden and Newman ran prior to adding the Fox broadcast network to their plate last year.

“It’s true that we’ve had some conversations on X-Files,” Newman said. “We’re hopeful of being able to bring that back at some point.”

Walden added: “Gary and I both worked [at 20th Century Fox Television] through the entire run of The X Files. It was a great experience. We’ve maintained good relationships with Chris, David and Gillian. We’re very hopeful, but it’s hard. The actors are very busy. They have a lot going on. Chris has a lot on his plate, so it’s just trying to carve out the time.”

Amazon recently declined to make Carter’s new post-apocalyptic series project The After, so the writer-producer may be more open to revisiting his past. More problematic is that Duchovny has an upcoming NBC event series, Aquarius, while Anderson has a recurring role on NBC’s Hannibal. Both actors would presumably have to get contractually clear of their commitments to Fox’s rival before signing onto an X-Files relaunch.

Re: X-Files to Return?

FFS, they really have run out of ideas.

DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom".

Completely agree.

but

I loved the x-files...well the first 8 series or so anyway but if you're going to reboot it, then freakin reboot it.
I don't think bringing back an aged Duchovny and Anderson will attract a new fresh audience....I don't know, I'm torn. The show had out run its story by the time it finished up, I just don't think you can reboot the series afresh with the same actors in the same roles and I don't think anyone wants a continuation of where the series ended up...

They do have ideas, they just don't want to take the risk, so they rather bet again on a familiar pony.

Re: X-Files to Return?

ok so. honestly. my favourite series ever. I was 7 when it came out and 7 when i got into it. and ask my dad (ill send you his email tongue) i understood it then. I grew up with mulder and scully. i basically have a shrine on my shelf of the collectors dvds and file vhs'. I am happy they want it to be gdavid and gillian. but if they can't be there because of their other shows, it shouldn't be made. but at the same time. the other stars of the shows are making other shows now. So if we don't get the Gillnitz team at least, what would the reboot be?!!!

Re: X-Files to Return?

Only question I have is will it append to 'The X-Files', or end up under a different title here? I've already re-added the x files to my watchlist in anticipation.

Re: X-Files to Return?

different title for sure, though ask around and orlando wouldnt really care....thats just how it is...

24 appended, so why do you think it a certainty this won't?
