Re: Battlefield 3
I have 0 problems with Origin. There are plenty of bugs with the game though. Random flashes, falling through the floor, etc etc.

it's telling me "your account is not allowed to log in" No idea why, i had access to the Alpha. i've not pre-purchased it yet, but that shouldn't matter if it's 'open beta' surely? mehhhhh

I now can confirm it, you just need to add it to your account and start downloading it, then battlelog opens for your account.

Re: Battlefield 3
Are you playing campaign or the huge scale TDM? I'll be getting this for PS3 most likely... -Rob

Re: Battlefield 3
There's no campaign in the beta, only Operation Metro (Rush) and Caspain Border (Conquest), which requires a password and is a hell of a pain to get into (CB, not Metro)

Re: Battlefield 3
cool. Were you a fan of Modern Warfare 1 & 2? Those have been my FPSes...and I'm planning to switch to BF because it looks like the multiplayer is more fun than MW3 will be...(I used to play BF1942 and really enjoyed vehicles and such...but that was back in 2003 or something...). ...basically, I don't want to buy both BF3 and MW3....just curious if I'm wise leaning towards BF3. -Rob

Re: Battlefield 3
I liked MW, everything after that is shit. Just wait for the sound quality, oh boy. For me, this is A LOT better that the last ~4 CoD games together, quality wise.

Re: Battlefield 3
...yeah, I think the only thing I'd really miss is custom classes...though the team dynamic of BF probably makes that trade-off worthwhile... -Rob

Yeah the sound is awesome in this game. The bullet effects are good, the sound placement seems very accurate. I'd love to hear this in surround... Oh wait, I just have to connect the cables. Need to try that tomorrow.

Re: Battlefield 3
So, should I invest in the PS3 wireless stereo headset? I'm getting the impression that my tv speakers just aren't going o cut it. Also, by 'sound placement' do you mean that a shot from your left will be louder from the left speaker/headphone? -Rob

Re: Battlefield 3
I will try the open beta tomorrow. I was invited in the alpha and was really impressed then also. I think its right of them using a webpage as launch interface since they failed horribly with the server/friends interface in BC2. Anyways hopefully the bugs mentioned won't affect the release date in a negative way and we got a longrunning fun game to enjoy online!

Don't know how much it would cost you, but yes, a headset will make a ton of difference. And by sound placement, from what I hear (hah) is, that the bullet sound changes dynamically based on where you are, you could estimate the distance between you and your enemies rifle, it's not just a prerecorded sound played by a spcript. You can even hear how the bullet passes even through leafes. (Or at least I think I hear it). But that's nothing, until you go inside the Metro, then the acoustic is different in each room, it's... it's just new quality, man.

Re: Battlefield 3
Well, I have an ear piece/one ear headset... ...only just realized the open beta was available on ps3 last night as well, so I'll give that a try today at some point... Will post my review here at some point...though I'm sure I'll be preaching to the converted by then. -Rob

Looking forward to it, I love the letters and words you write. Too bad they closed the servers with Caspian Border, now that's a map.

Re: Battlefield 3
I'M LOVING IT! The release date is perfect since I will be buying a new computer for just gaming around that time! And about the sound quality.. O M F G! When you're inside the metro and a rocket flies past you, eargasm!

Re: Battlefield 3
Well, I've had time to play about 2 hours of Operation Metro Rush on PS3...and it's cool...though I've been getting my butt handed to me Kill/Death ratio-wise. I suppose that BF is more of a team-success game than a personal achievement game though. It's going to take some adjusting from the last 2 years of CoD that I've played. I'd really like to try some different modes too...and without vehicles, it's sort of like a lite version of Call of Duty with a better map, better physics and less customization of gear... The sound physics though, are awesomely impressive...and I suppose there are many customizations for me to unlock too(being blinded by flashlights and red dot is annoying and awesome at the same time...being able to see the flashlight lights is just awesome...especially when the guy carrying them is running...lol ...the physics of it all is really the most impressive part. I'd just like to experience more aspects of the gameplay before giving my final verdict. Wish I'd gotten to try out the other map...though I'd do well to learn the layout of the metro better anyway... -Rob

Re: Battlefield 3
I have a Core 2 Extreme QX6850 (3.0 Ghz), 8 GB RAM, Radeon HD 6870 1GB and the game runs pretty well with Ultra settings, without FSAA and 8x AF. Setting everything on High, I achieve a high framerate constantly.
