I just finished watching the original Prisoner ... It took me about 1/2 a year to get through the 17 episodes. I liked the idea of the show, but each episode was like taffy - you just can't eat too much or you will get sick. I had to watch an episode and take a break, otherwise I would have probably hated it.
All in all it was a good show, but good god, the finale was a brain-f**k. I get the whole anti-culture idea of McGoohan (RIP) going against the societal expectations of the audience and not having Six be a superspy and not giving us the ending we wanted, but I never expected it to make this little sense.
BEGIN SPOILERS!
(Even though I am leaning toward the idea that Six actually snapped and was a dual-personality, at the same time Six and One, where the One part did not know why the Six part resigned and needed to know. The finale was the confrontation (in his mind) of the two personalities, where Six won (by locking One in the "attic") and thus was free.)
END SPOILERS!
So I honestly do not know how the remake can keep the anti-culture aspects (or the finale) of the original. I'd rather they take the best "interrogation" ideas from the show and combine it into a kick-ass psychological game of cat and mouse with a satisfying conclusion. I guess we'll see soon enough.
